      • Urapidil, Labetalol의 투여가 기관내 삽관시 심혈관계에 미치는 영향

        We have examined the comparative efficacy of small doses of intravenous urapidil and labetalol in blunting hemodynamic response to endotracheal intubation and surgical incision in 30 patients without cardiovascular diseases. After intravenous urapidil 0.2 mg/kg or labetalol 0.2 mg/kg anesthesia was induced with thiopental 5mg/kg. Endotracheal intubation was facilitated by vecuronium 0.15 mg/kg with priming principle and anesthesia was maintained with enflurane and nitrous oxide in oxygen. Systolic, diastolic and mean arterial pressure and heart rate were measured before administration of the drugs, 5 minute after administration, just prior to endotracheal intubation and 1, 3, 5, 10 minute after intubatin. Also the peak blood pressures and heart rate within 10 minutes after surgical incision were measured. Endotracheal intubation and surgical stimulation were associated with significant increases in blood pressures and heart rate in both urapidil and labetalol group. Comparison of the changes in systolic, diastolic, and mean artrial pressures and heart rate between urapidil and labetalol group showed no significant difference except peak systolic pressure after surgical incision. It is concluded that the pressor response to endotracheal intubation and surgical stimulation are not influenced significantly by urapidil 0.2 mg/kg or labetalol 0.2 mg/kg. However, urapidil and labetalol preloading may be similarly effective in the blunting of the increases in blood pressures with larger doses of the durgs during anesthetic induction.

      • 오리 鼻腔 및 鼻粘膜上皮의 計測에 관한 硏究

        The area of the various epithelial types linging the nasal navity of each six number in 1-week-old and 10-week-old adult ducks has been made for the light microscopic research. Transverse sections of 10 microns thick in each specimen were made continuously from the anterior end of nostril to the posterior end of pharyngeal inlet and specimen samples were selected at 0.13mm(1-week-old) and 0.17mm(10-week-old) intervals from the anterior end of the nasal cavity to the posterior end of pharyngeal inlet. The results obtained from research were summarized as follows. 1. The nasal cavity is lined with stratified squamous, respiratory and olfactory epithelium. The thickness of stratified squamous, respiratory and olfactory epithelium is 10-100㎛, 8-75㎛ and 50㎛ respectively in 1-week-old ducks, and 25-175㎛, 20-125㎛ and 66㎛ respectively in 10-week-old ducks. 2. The unilateral volumes of the nasal cavity in 1-week-old and 10-week-old ducks were 21.73±2.64㎟, 1,692.44±171.57㎟ respectively. 3. The total unilateral surface areas of the nasal cavity in 1-week-old and 10-week-old ducks were 70.44±4.92㎟, 1,772.45±94.10㎟ respectively. 4. Each area of the stratified squamous epithelium, respiratory epithelium and olfactory epithelium in unilateral nasal cavity is 14.82±1.85㎟ (21.1%), 46.86±3.20㎟ (66.5%) and 8.76±0.40㎟ (12.4%) in the 1-week-old ducks, and 348.23±40.02㎟ (19.7%), 1,282.31±47.03㎟ (72.3%) and 141.90±12.43㎟ (8.0%) in the 10-week-old ducks. Ducks are assumed as a microsmatic animals by the composition of the lining epithelium of the nasal cavity in ducks.

        환경농업 시범마을 논에서 시비에 따른 무척추동물 개체 수 변화

        논의 관리방법에 따른 수서생물상의 변동 양상을 파악하기 위하여 종합적인 환경농업기술 시범 2개 지역의 논 및 하천에서 주기적으로 조사 분석하였다. 논에서의 수서 무척추동물의 총 개체 수는 두 지역 모두 농가관행구에 비해 화학비료 토양검정 시비구에서 62% 이상 높았고 그 다음은 두 지역에서 서로 다르게 나타나 옥천의 경우 농가관행구, 양평은 화학비료+개량재 순으로 많고, 가장 적은 처리는 무비구였다. 수서곤충의 총 개체 수는 토양검정시비구가 농가관행구 옥천 및 양평 각각 328, 45.1/L보다 56%, 69% 더 많았다. 갑각류의 총 개체수는 옥천 지역에서는 토양검정 화학비료구> 화학 비료+개량제구> 농가관행구> 무비구 순으로 많았으며, 양평에서는 화학비료+개량제구>토양검정 화학비료>무비> 농가관행구 순으로서 과다 비료시용구인 농가관행구에서 가장 적었다. 두 지역의 논관류 하천에서 서식하는 수서 무척추동물은 59과 76종이 분류되었고, 미확인종이 14종으로 조사되었으며, 특히 물방개과 중 노란테 콩알 물방개 및 땅콩 콩알 물방개가 채집되었고 양평 지역에서는 날도래 종류가 다양하게 서식하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 하천지류별 수서 무척추동물 서식밀도는 두 지역 모두에서 상류보다는 하류에서 밀도가 높았으며, 옥천의 연평균 성적에서도 하류에서 1300/0.09 ㎡로 최상류에 비해 172% 더 많은 밀도를 나타냈다. 친환경 농업 실천 2개 지역에서의 논 서식 수서 무척추동물 개체 수 조사 결과 일반관행 농가 논 91.1/L 보다 58% 더 많았다. This study was conducted to survey and identify kinds and population of the freshwater invertebrate fauna according to the managements of paddy rice fields at Ok-Chun and Yang-Pyung. The experiment was conducted in 4 paddy plots; conventional fertilization plot (CF), fertilization by prescription with soil testing with (ST+A) or without soil amendment (ST), and no fertilization as the control. In addition, the freshwater invertebrate fauna was also surveyed at 3 sections of as upper, intermediate and down, in both Jitan and Bungsan stream. The total number of the freshwater invertebrates was higher in the order of ST>CF>ST+A>C and ST>ST+A>CF>C at Ok-Chun and Yang-Pyung, respectively. The population density of aquatic insects was higher in plots fertilized by prescription with soid testing than in the other plots at both demonstration villages. The freshwater invertebrates collected in Jitan and Bungsan stream were identified and classified into 59 families and 90 species, and their population density was highest in the downstream among.

        The manufacture of edible/biodegradable films or coatings can potentially add value to soy protein, Such films can find using as edible or nonedible food packaging materials. The effect of soy protein film-forming solutions on film formation, tensile properties of soy protein/pectin blend films were changed significantly by the amount of glycerol and the ratio of soy protein/pectin. Moreover mechanical properties of soy protein/pectin-montmorillonite clay have been studied. Tensile strength and modulus decreases as the relative humidity increased while with increasing relative humidity elongation at break increased.

      • 본태성 고혈압이 동반된 당뇨병환자의 혈중 인슐린 농도

        Multiple lines of evidence link elevated blood pressure with diabetes mellitus. Specifically, it has been proposed that resistance to insulin-stimulated glucose uptake and hyperinsulinemia may play a central role in the cause and clinical course of hypertension. In diabetes mellitus, insulin resistance and/or hyperinsulinemia is an common finding and it is interesting whether the hyperinsulinemia may play a signigicant role in hypertension with DM in the same way as in essential hypertension without diabetes mellitus. The object of this study was to compare insulin and c-peptide levels between age, sex, and obesity matched two groups(DM with DM without hypertension). Method The study group consisted of 55 male diabetes mellitus patients, aged between 45-55 (years). Patients with obesity (body mass index · 30 ㎏/m2), renal disease (proteinuria · 300 ㎎/24hr urine), and secondary hypertension were excluded. Insulin and c-peptide were measured in overnight fasting state and after oral administration of glucose(75 gm). In the fasting, venous plasma glucose levels were similar in the hypertensive and control group(132 ±7 ㎎/dl vs 135 ±8 ㎎/dl). In the fasting, venous plasma insulin levels were higher in the hypertensive than in the control group (10.9 ±5.3 μIU/ml vs 5.5 ±3.9 μIU/ml, p = 0.0001). After loading with 75 gm glucose, venous plasma insulin level seems to be higher in the hypertensive patients than in the control patients, but the difference was not signigicant statistically (27.2 ±17.5 μIU/ml vs 19.9 ±18.9 μIU/ml, p = 0.1297). The mean insulin concentration of the essential hypertensive patients with diabetes mellitus was twice that of the normotensive patients with diabetes mellitus. In control group, there was a direct relations between insulin level and c-peptide, in both fasting state (R = 0.617, p = 0.0001) and glucose-loaded state (R = 0.531, p = 0.001). But in hypertensive group, there was no relations between insulin level and c-peptide, in both fasting state (R = 0.257, p = 0.2738) and glucose-loaded state (R = 0.307, p = 0.1885).

        The human proteomics-based approaches, which examine the expressed proteins of a tissue or cell type, are increasingly being used. Venous occlusion is commonly employed for stimulating tissue-plasminogen activator (t-PA) and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-l) release from venous endothelial cells, and this has been regarded as a parameter of the individual fibrinolytic capacity of plasma. The present work involved a detailed investigation of the plasma proteome and fibrinolytic activity in normal subjects, with the aim of determining whether correlations exist between various parameters of the fibhnolytic system before and after venous occlusion. We analyzed fibhnolytic parameters and plasma proteome before and after 15-min periods of venous occlusion in the forearm in 10 healthy 3rd-decade volunteers. Proteome analysis was performed using two-dimensional gels. The tryptic digests of some proteins were confirmed by MALDI-TOF and the MS-Fit algorithm. The fibrinolytic response as measured by the absolute amount of t-PA after venous occlusion was increased by venous occlusion (5.5 vs 9.6 ng/㎗, p<0.05), as was PAI-l (46.8 vs 56.1 ng/㎗, p<0.05). However, two-dimensional electrophoresis finding was virtually nonspecific and inconsistent after venous occlusion in healthy male subjects. Venous occlusion does not influence plasma proteome in healthy males. Although the fibhnolytic response to venous occlusion is attributed to an increase in free tUPA antigen, this change is not correlated with plasma proteome.

      • Crucial Role of Oxidation Debris of Carbon Nanotubes in Subsequent End-Use Applications of Carbon Nanotubes

        <P>A facile purification method for oxidized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is developed to preserve acidic carbon compounds (ACCs) for achieving high-quality dispersion of CNTs. The remaining ACCs, which originated from the surface destruction of CNTs during the oxidation process, are considered to play a crucial role in the dispersion of CNTs in water and various polar protic solvents. To elucidate the concrete role of ACCs, a direct titration method is applied to quantitatively investigate the degree of ionization of both CNTs and ACCs in their aqueous dispersion. While ACCs with strong carboxylic groups (pK(a) of around 2.9) are easily removed by the neutral or base washing of oxidized CNTs, which is common in the purification process, ACC-selective purification using acid washing preserves the ACCs attached to CNTs, thereby effectively stabilizing CNT dispersions in aqueous solutions. Additionally, the Hansen solubility parameters of ACC-preserved and ACC-removed CNTs were determined by the inverse gas chromatography method to estimate their miscibility in various solvents. The preserved ACCs significantly influenced the dispersibility of CNTs in polar protic solvents, which may widen the possible application of CNTs. Specifically, the ACC-preserved high-quality CNT dispersion produces high-performance CNT buckypaper with densely packed nanostructures. The Young's modulus and tensile strength of these buckypapers reach up to 12.0 and 91.0 MPa, respectively, which exceed those of ACC-removed CNTs in previous reports.</P>

      • The Serum HBV DNA level is the Most Important Indicator of Histologic Severity in HBeAg Negative Chronic HBV Carriers

        Background and Aims: Although hepatitis Be Antigen(HBeAg) seroconversion to anti-HBe is often associated with remission of liver disease, a considerable portion of HBeAg negative chronic hepatitis B virus(HBV) infected patients still suffer from active liver disease. Precore and core promoter mutation of HBV have been reported in the worldwide but their clinical significance have not been determined. We aimed to study the inter-relationships of clinical parameters such as serum HBV-DNA, serum aminotransferase, intrahepatic expression of hepatitis B core Antigen(HBcAg) and histological activity in the HBeAg negative young chronic HBV carriers and to study the differences of clinical parameter according to precore mutation. Methods: The study group included 35 young male patients with biopsy-proven chronic hepatitis B(All HBeAg-negative groups). Results:1. HBV-DNA were positively correlated to serum transaminase, lobular activity, portal activity, fibrosis and grade of intrahepatic HBcAg expression(p<0.05), but not correlated to periportal activity. 2. Serum AST and ALT were positively correlated with serum HBV-DNA, lobular activity, and grade of cytoplasmic HBcAg expression(p<0.001). 3. Nt. 1896 mutation(A, A/G) were not correlated with serum HBV-DNA, transaminase, grade and site of intrahepatic HBcAg expression, and histologic activity. Precore mutation of HBeAg negative group had a positive correlation with the number of apparent amino acid substitution(p=0.017). Conlusion: Activity of hepatitis in HBeAg negative young chronic B viral hepatitis was not affected by precore mutation. However, the level of serum HBV-DNA in HBeAg negative young chronic B viral hepatitis were strongly correlated to liver injury.

        Predictive Factors for Complete Response and Recurrence after Transarterial Chemoembolization in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

        Background/Aims: To investigate the predictive factors for complete response (CR) and recurrence after CR in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). Methods: Among 691 newly diagnosed HCC patients, 287 were treated with TACE as a first therapy. We analyzed the predictive factors for CR, recurrence after CR, and overall survival (OS). Results: Eighty-one patients (28.2%) achieved CR after TACE, and recurrence after CR was detected in 35 patients (43.2%). In multivariate analyses, tumor size (≤5 cm) and single nodularity were predictive factors for CR, with hazard ratios (HRs) of 0.35 (p=0.002) and 0.41 (p< 0.001), respectively. Elevated serum α-fetoprotein (AFP) (>20 ng/mL) level and multinodularity exhibited significant relationships with recurrence after CR, with HRs of 2.220 (p=0.026) and 3.887 (p< 0.001), respectively. Tumor size (>5 cm), multinodularity, elevated serum AFP (>20 ng/mL) level, Child-Turcotte-Pugh score (B and C), and portal vein thrombosis were significant factors for OS. Conclusions: In patients treated with TACE as a first therapy, tumor size (≤5 cm) and single nodularity were predictive factors for CR, and multinodularity and elevated serum AFP (>20 ng/mL) levels were predictive factors for recurrence after CR.       • Functional Cardiomyocytes Formation Derived from Mouse Embryonic Stem Cells

        Pluripotent embryonic stem (ES) cells differentiate spontaneously into beating cardiomyocytes via embryo-like aggregates. We describe the use of mouse embryonic stem (mES03) cells as a reproducible differentiation system for cardiomyocyte. To induce cardiomyocytic differentiation, mES03 cells were dissociated and allowed to aggregate (EB formation) at the presence of 0 75% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) for 4 days and then another 4 days without DMSO (4+/4-). Thus treated EBs were plated onto gelatin-coated dish for differentiation. Spontaneously contracting colonies which appeared in approximately 4-5 days upon differentiation. Expression of cardiac-specific genes were determined by RT-PCR. Rebust expression of myosin light chain (MLC-2V), cardiac myosin heavy chain , cardiac muscle heavy polypeptide 7 -MHC), cardiac transcription factor GATA4 and skeletal muscle-specific -subunit of the L-type calcium channel () were detected as early as 8 days after EB formation, but message of cardiac muscle-specific -subunit of the L-type calcium channel (CaCh) were revealed at a low level. Strikingly, the expression of atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) was not detected. When spontaneous contracting cell masses were examined their electrophysiological features by patch-clamp technique, it showed ventricle-like action potential 17 days after the EB formation. This study indicates that mES03 cell-derived cardiomyocytes displayed biochemical and electrophysiological properties of cardiomyocytes and DMSO enhanced development of cardiomyocytes in 4+/4- method.
