Purpose : The purpose of the experiment was to evaluating the diagnostic ability of dental caries detection using digital subtraction in the artificial caries activity model. Materials and Methods : Digital radiographies of five teeth with 8 proximal surfaces were obtained by CCD sensor (Kodak RVG 6100 using a size #2). The digital radiographic images and subtraction images from artificial proximal caries were examined and interpreted. In this study, we proposed novel caries detection method which could diagnose the dental proximal caries from single digital radiographic image. Results : In artificial caries activity model, the range of lesional depth was 572-1,374 μm and the range of lesional area was 36.95-138.52mm². The lesional depth and the area were significantly increased with demineralization time (p<0.001). Furthermore, the proximal caries detection using digital subtraction radiography showed high detection rate compared to the proximal caries examination using simple digital radiograph. Conclusion : The results demonstrated that the digital subtraction radiography from single radiographic image of artificial caries was highly efficient in the detection of dental caries compared to the data from simple digital radiograph.

In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

ObjectivesThe aim of this study was to offer the fundamental data for the physical thera-pies of Korean medicine through analyse the database of one university hospital.MethodsAs this study was retrospective analysis, following items were selected and an-alysed in the electronic medical record (EMR) database. (1) sex, (2) inpatient or outpatient, (3) medical department, (4) diagnosis, (5) kind of insurance.ResultsAlthough all kind of physical therapies were used, interferential current therapy (ICT) was the most used physical therapy. And department of rehabilitation medicine of Korean medicine prescribed physical therapies most among the 8 specialty departments. As physical therapies were used in various kinds of diseases, they were especially used in musculoskeletal diseases and nervous system diseases.ConclusionsThe analysis of actual condition of using physical therapies in a real clinical setting of Korean medicine could be a useful fundamental data for the application of mod-ernized physical therapies. Viable Bacterial Cell Patterning Using a Pulsed Jet Electrospray System

In the present study, drop-on-demand two-dimensional patterning of unstained and stained bacterial cells on untreated clean wafers was newly conducted using an electrospray pulsed jet. We produced various spotted patterns of the cells on a silicon wafer by varying the experimental conditions, such as the frequency, flow rate, and translational speed of the electrospray system in a two-dimensional manner. Specifically, the electrospray``s pulsed jet of cell solutions produced alphabetical patterns consisting of spots with a diameter of approximately 10 μm, each of which contained a single or a small number of viable bacteria. We tested the viability of the patterned cells using two visualization methods. This pattering technique is newly tested here and it has the potential to be applied in a variety of cell biology experiments.
