In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

N/A Clinical studies were carried out on 14,389 cases who had taken gastrofiberscopic examination, biopsy and X-ray from May, 1969 to May, 1984 in Han-Yang University Hospital. The results obtained were as follows; 1) Of total 14,389 cases, 7,916 were male and 6,473 were female. 55.1%, of the cases were in the 3rd and 4th decade. 2) Of total 14, 389 cases, 13, 615 showed abnormal endoscopic findings. In abnormal cases, male to female ratio was l.2: l.3) The incidence of single organ involved was 84.8% and multiple organs involved was In single organ involved cases, the most common site of disease was stomach and in multiple organ involved cases, the prevalent sites of lesions were stomach and duodenum. 4) The most frequent disease of stomach was gastritis followed by gastric ulcer. In the cases of duodenum, the most common disease was duodenal ulcer and the next was duodenitis. 5) The most prevalent disease was the chronic gastritis, and the frequency of the other upper gastrointestinal diseases was acute gastritis, gastric ulcer, stomach cancer and duodenal ulcer in orders. 6) The most frequent type of chronic gastritis was superficial gastritis. 7) Among the total cases which had been taken blood-typing, the incidence of most upper gastrointestinal diseases was not related to each blood type. But blood group 0 was common in peptic ulcer disease and blood group A in stomach cancer. 8) The clinical symptoms and signs were of no significant aid for the differential diagnosis of the various upper gastrointestinal diseases.

저자들은 하지 자색반과 고환 통증으로 내원한 알코올성 간경화증 환자에서 LCV의 원인 감별하는 과정에서 HCC와 하대정맥 막성폐쇄를 진단하고 이에 대한 치료 후 LCV의 호전된 증례를 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. Vasculitis is a heterogeneous group of diseases that destroy blood vessel walls by inflammation. Approximately half of vasculitis cases are idiopathic, but sometimes associated with genetic factors, medicines, chronic infection, autoimmune diseases, and malignancies. Although the mechanism remains unclear, vasculitis secondary to malignancy, also known as paraneoplastic vasculitis, has been reported. It is generally associated with hematologic malignancies rather than solid malignancies and commonly presents as leukocytoclastic vasculitis or polyarteritis nodosa. We experienced a case of leukocytoclastic vasculitis in a patient with hepatocellular carcinoma and membranous obstruction of the inferior vena cava. 糞便檢査에 있어서 세로판 厚層塗抹法과 簡易食鹽水浮游法의 比較檢討

Experiments had been made to evaluate more efficient method in stool examination for various helminth ova. Authors examined 2,016 nationwidely collected stool specimens by the two methods, cellophane thick smear method and brine floatation method. The results were as foliows; 1. Of 2,019 specimens examined by cellophane thick smear method, the positive rates of following helminth ova were; Ascaris lumbricoides (fertilized) 27.3% Ascaris lumbricoides (unfertilized) 13.6%, Trichuris trichiura 39.0%, Hookworm 0.1%, Enterobius vermicularis 0.05% Hymenolepis nana 0.04%, Taenla spp. 1.3% Clonorchis sinensis 1.1% and Metagonimus yokogawai 5.7%. And, A. lumbricoides (fertilized) 27.0%, A. lumbricoides (unfertilized) 3.8%, T. trichiura 38.1%, Hookworm 2.0%, Trichostrongylus orlentalis 0.6%, E. vermicularis 0.2%, H. nana 0.8%, and M. yokogawai 0.05% by brine floatation method. 2. The causes of inferior positive rates in some helminth ova by cellophane thick smear method were shortly discussed and suggest some opinions in improvement of detection ability. 3. The positive rates of following helminth ova were superior in cellophane thick smear method to those of brine floatation method: A. lumbricoides(fertilized), Taenia spp., C. sinensis and M. yokogawai. And, the positive rates of following helminth ova were superior in brine floatation method: Hookworm T. orientalis, H. nana and E. vermicularis. 4. Cellophane thick smear method has been known to be one of the most effective methods in mass stool examination. But, this method is not so effective in detection of certain species of helminth ova. Therefore, employment of brine floatation method added to cellophane thick smear method is desirable for the better result of mass stool examination.

PGE_2와 DBcAMP가 골조직 세포의 생리적 활성에 미치는 영향

One of the primary functions for which bones have evolved is to act as structural support. To achieve this goal, bones are remodeling throughout life so that their structure remains optimal for the prevailing mechanical environment. Bone remodeling consists of an initial phase of osteoclastic bone resorption followed by a bone formation period. Prostaglandins are potent regulators of bone formation and bone resorption that can have both stimulatory and inhibitory effects. Elevation of intracellular cAMP is an important intracellular signaling mechanism involved in the regulation of the expression of many proteins. In this study, the author examined whether PGE_2 or DBcAMP affected osteoblastic activation or osteoclastic differentiation in mouse bone marrow cells and osteosarcoma ROS 17/2.8 cells. The effect of PGE_2 and DBcAMP on the cell proliferation was measured by the incorporation of [^3H]-thymidine into DNA. From the result, PGE_2( 0.5-1 ㎍/ml ) and DBcAMP(0.1-0.5 mM) inhibited the [^3H]-thymidine incorporation into DNA. The effect of PGE_2 and DBcAMP on the induction of alkaline phosphatase(ALP) was investigated in ROS 17/2.8 cells cultured in medium containing 0.4% fetal bovine serum. PGE_2 and DBcAMP stimulated ALP activity in the cells. PGE_2 also increased the intracellular cAMPs contents with a maximal effect at 0.5 ㎍/ml. ROS 17/2.8 cells released nitric oxide upon stimulation of PGE2 or DBcAMP with interferon-γ. PGE_2 and DBcAMP increase the phosphorylation level of CREB(cAMP response element binding protein) without any change on the amount of CREB protein. Also, PGE_2 (10^-6 M) and DBcAMP (10^-4 M) significantly increase the generation of osteoclast-like cell in mouse bone marrow cell culture system. In conclusion, the results of this study suggested that PGE_2 and cAMP should appear to be an important regulatory molecule in the processes of bone formation and resorption.

The sensor and measuring instrument that are used for the infrastructure is discussed the reliability problem from the various environment factors. In the domestic infrastructure, the low reliability products are produced, because of lack of the pertinent test methods and equipments. To improve the practical use and accuracy of the sensor, it raises the measurement reliability about the sensor and measurement instrument. In this study, the variance of the displacement value according to temperature was investigated using the LVDT for the infrastructure. The experimental results showed that a sensor is affected by environment factor such as temperature.

Seed sowing is the major method for the establishment of cool-season grasses at the soccer fields, golf courses, etc. Germination speed of kentucky bluegrass(Poa prantensis L.: KB) is much slower than the other cool-season grasses. This study was conducted to solve the problems at the early stage of establishment with KB. The best priming conditions of KB, drying method after soaking in the water, and covering materials will be selected. To reduce irrigation frequency and quantity for seed germination, seeds of KB were exposed to the different soaking temperature(4, 20, 25, 30℃). soaking durations(3, 6, 10, 13, 19, 23 days), storage periods(3, 6, 9 days), storage humidities(30, 50, 100%), shading rate(0, 50, 100%), drying methods(dry in the air, heating, mix soaked seed with profile=1:2), and covering materials(70% shade net, fiber net). The optimum soaking temperature and duration for the seed priming of KB were 20℃ and 10 days, respectively. The optimum storage period and humidity were 3 days and 100%, respectively, Under 50% shading, germination rate was the highest. In drying method after soaking, mixture of seeds and profile(1:2) was optimum for sowing. Using the thin fiber net as covering material after sowing was good for not moving seeds and improved germination speed and rate.

坡州郡 廣灘面에 있어서의 肺吸蟲症의 疫學的 推移

Paragonimiasis is a common trematodiasis of medical importance and one of public health problems in many areas of southern part of Korea. During the last sixty years, several surveys on the prevalence among the Korean population have been carried out by various investigators, although the general distribution and prevalence of paragonimiasis are not yet clearly determined. This study was undertaken to compare the status of human paragonimiasis in Kwang-Tan Myun, Pa Joo Gun by the use of intradermal screening test with Veronal buffered saline antigen. 1. In 1969, 27.9 per cent of the inhabitant examiners showed positive reaction, with sexual difference of 38.7 per cent in male and 8.3 per cent in female. 2. In 1977, 19.8 per cent of the inhabitant examiners showed positive reaction, with sexual difference of 31.9 per cent in male and 3.8 per cent in female. 3. In 1977, 1.9 per cent of the student examiners showed positive reaction. 4. In the inhabitant examiners, relarively higher positive rate was shown from the age group of 10 years in 1969, but it was shown from the age group of 40 years in 1977.
