        The results of this Study are as follows:33.6% of all participants have insomnia; 22.5% of those who have insomnia are DIS(difficulty in initiating sleep), 17.3% are DMS(difficulty returning to sleep once awakened) and 7.0% awakened too early. 3 4.8% experience sleepiness during daytime. Type 1, experiencing insomnia and sleepi ness during daytime together, is 12.0%, Type 2, with insomnia only, is 21.6%, Type 3, with sleepiness during daytime only, is 22.8% and 43.5% experience no sleeping disturbances. After studying only those with 3 types of sleeping disturbances, it is found that the most common cause of such disturbance is stress 88.4%, anxiety 56.0%, no apparent reason 33.8%, anxiety/fear/terror 29.3%, hurry 23.6%, alcohol/caffeine 16.9%, bedroom tem perature 11.1%, urination during nighttime and persons living together 10.7%, noise from inside 8.9%, illumination 8.0%, and pain/itch 5.8%. The one group revealed significant differences in residential environment(p=0.003). Sex, age, education level, medicine, monthly earning revealed no meaningful differences. Of sleeping behavior, mean duration of sleep latency(p=0.000), whether or not feeling freshness(p=0.000), whether taking enough sleep(p=0.029), whether taking regular sleep(p=0.005) showed significant differences depending on whether or not having insomnia, and mean duration of sleep time, time to sleep, time of rising, whether taking naps did not reveal significant differences. Of sleep behavior, time to sleep(p=0.000), whether taking naps(p=0.000), indicated significant differences. Of sleeping behavior, mean duration of sleep latency(p=0.000), whether or not feeling freshness(p=0.000), and whether taking enough sleep(p=0.000), time of going to bed (p=0.002), whether or not taking nap(p=0.000), whether or not taking regular sleep(p=0.010) indicated significant differences among the sleeping disturbance types.

        The purpose of this study is to examine the association of bad breath and nicotine dependency. By use of the findings from this study, This study conducted the survey of 53 smoker who visited dental hygiene lab for delivery from October to November 2012 with structured questionnaires(Fagerstrom Tolerance Questionnaire FTQ) and equipment(CO measuring instrument, Oral Chroma etc). The data were analyzed by using SPSS 20.0 program for χ2-test, ANOVA. Smokers' average age was 23 years old. The more higher nicotine dependence the more the average age was higher. The more higher nicotine dependence the less to nque brushing. No association of nicotine dependence and self-bad breath level. CO State was Significant differences(ND1(M=2.58), ND2(M=3.98), ND3(M=7.41), ND4(M=4.19), ND5(M=13.14))(F=2.616, p=.047). Dimethyl Sulfide was Significant differences(F=3.026, p=.026).

        펜톤 시약 투입 변화에 따른 염색폐수의 처리효율 향상에 관한 연구

        This research was carried out to enhance the removal efficiencies of COD_Cr and color from dyeing wastewater by Fenton process, involving oxidation and coagulation. The experimental variables for this study include dosage division ratio of hydrogen peroxide and amount of Fenton's reagent. In the case of H_2O_2 divided dosage, 7:3 was more effective than 3:7 to remove COD_Cr and color. The results show than COD was mainly removed by Fenton coagulation, where the ferric ions are formed in the initial Fenton reaction. In contrast, color was removed by Fenton oxidation rather than Fenton coagulation. It was found out that overdose of Fenton's reagent has been applied in the "B" Treatment Plant. In spite of 20% reduction of the hydrogen peroxide dosage, effluents are satisfied with Discharged Water Quality Standards.

        Apoptotic effect of IP₆ was not enhanced by co-treatment with myo-inositol in prostate carcinoma PC3 cells

        Inositol hexaphosphate (IP?) is a major constituent of most cereals, legumes, nuts, oil seeds and soybean. Previous studies reported the anticancer effect of IP? and suggested that co-treatment of IP? with inositol may enhance anticancer effect of IP?. Although the anticancer effect of IP? has been intensively studied, the combinational effect of IP? and inositol and involved mechanisms are not well understood so far. In the present study, we investigated the effect of IP? and myo-inositol (MI) on cell cycle regulation and apoptosis using PC3 prostate cancer cell lines. When cells were co-treated with IP? and MI, the extent of cell growth inhibition was significantly increased than that by IP? alone. To identify the effect of IP? and MI on apoptosis, the activity of caspase-3 was measured. The caspase-3 activity was significantly increased when cells were treated with either IP? alone or both IP? and MI, with no significant enhancement by co-treatment. To investigate the effect of IP? and MI of cell cycle arrest, we measured p21 mRNA expression in PC3 cells and observed significant increase in p21 mRNA by IP?. But synergistic regulation by co-treatment with IP? and MI was not observed. In addition, there was no significant effect by co-treatment compared to IP? treatment on the regulation of cell cycle progression although IP? significantly changed cell cycle distribution in the presence of MI or not. Therefore, these findings support that IP? has anticancer function by induction of apoptosis and regulation of cell cycle. However, synergistic effect by MI on cell cycle regulation and apoptosis was not observed in PC3 prostate cancer cells.

        Results of contact tracing for SARS-CoV-2 Omicron sub-lineages (BA.4, BA.5, BA.2.75) and the household secondary attack risk

        Objectives: This study aimed to assess the contact tracing outcomes of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Omicron sub-lineages BA.4, BA.5, and BA.2.75 within Republic of Korea, and to generate foundational data for responding to future novel variants.Methods: We conducted investigations and contact tracing for 79 confirmed BA.4 cases, 396 confirmed BA.5 cases, and 152 confirmed BA.2.75 cases. These cases were identified through random sampling of both domestically confirmed and imported cases, with the goal of evaluating the pattern of occurrence and transmissibility.Results: We detected 79 instances of Omicron sub-lineage BA.4 across a span of 46 days, 396 instances of Omicron sub-lineage BA.5 in 46 days, and 152 instances of Omicron sub-lineage BA.2.75 over 62 days. One patient with severe illness was confirmed among the BA.5 cases; however, there were no reports of severe illness in the confirmed BA.4 and BA.2.75 cases. The secondary attack risk among household contacts were 19.6% for BA.4, 27.8% for BA.5, and 24.3% for BA.2.75. No statistically significant difference was found between the Omicron sub-lineages.Conclusion: BA.2.75 did not demonstrate a higher tendency for transmissibility, disease severity, or secondary attack risk within households when compared to BA.4 and BA.5. We will continue to monitor major SARS-CoV-2 variants, and we plan to enhance the disease control and response systems.

        Therapeutic Effects of Microbubbles Added to Combined High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound and Chemotherapy in a Pancreatic Cancer Xenograft Model

        <P><B>Objective</B></P><P>To investigate whether high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) combined with microbubbles enhances the therapeutic effects of chemotherapy.</P><P><B>Materials and Methods</B></P><P>A pancreatic cancer xenograft model was established using BALB/c nude mice and luciferase-expressing human pancreatic cancer cells. Mice were randomly assigned to five groups according to treatment: control (n = 10), gemcitabine alone (GEM; n = 12), HIFU with microbubbles (HIFU + MB, n = 11), combined HIFU and gemcitabine (HIGEM; n = 12), and HIGEM + MB (n = 13). After three weekly treatments, apoptosis rates were evaluated using the terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end-labeling assay in two mice per group. Tumor volume and bioluminescence were monitored using high-resolution 3D ultrasound imaging and <I>in vivo</I> bioluminescence imaging for eight weeks in the remaining mice.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>The HIGEM + MB group showed significantly higher apoptosis rates than the other groups (<I>p</I> < 0.05) and exhibited the slowest tumor growth. From week 5, the tumor-volume-ratio relative to the baseline tumor volume was significantly lower in the HIGEM + MB group than in the control, GEM, and HIFU + MB groups (<I>p</I> < 0.05). Despite visible distinction, the HIGEM and HIGEM + MB groups showed no significant differences.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>High-intensity focused ultrasound combined with microbubbles enhances the therapeutic effects of gemcitabine chemotherapy in a pancreatic cancer xenograft model.</P>

      • cDNA Library Construction of Aphis gossypii Using Gateway Cloning System

        Aphis gossypii was widely distributed throughout the tropical, subtropical and temperate zone. The chemical control of A. gossypii is becoming problem because it was rapidly appeared resistance expression to chemicals. We will attempt to resolve the this problem using RNAi technique. Besides, RNAi technology can be helpful to study the target genes of A. gossypii. In this study we produce cDNA library construction using gateway cloning system for selecting target gene in order to control of A. gossypii using RNAi. As a result, the 100-400bp of insert size, which is appropriate for RNAi was confirmed. Most of insert gene is associated with A. gossypii, after that insert sequence was compared with DNA databases and EST databases using NCBI blast search. Consequentially, A. gossypii of cDNA library with the titer of 3.15x105 clones were completed. And we will perform the LR recombination to transfer cDNA library into TRV2 (tobacco rattle virus) vector with att site. Then, after performing transformation using Agrobacterium tumefaciens (GV 2260), we inoculated to cucumber with A. tumefaciens. An insecticidal effect or a repellent activity against A. gossypii by changing behavior in transgenic cucumber plants were conformed. Also, the selecting target gene in order to control A. gossypii using RNAi may be provided.

      • Hypomethylation of Long Interspersed Nuclear Element-1 (LINE-1) Leads to Activation of CD133 and ST18 in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

        Aims: Long interspersed nuclear element-1 (LINE-1) hypomethylation, representing global DNA methylation level, is associated with prognosis via activation of oncogenic functions of genes. This experiment was performed to evaluate prognostic implication of LINE-1 methylation in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and the possible mechanisms related to oncogene activation. Methods: Ninety-six HCC patients between October 2014 and September 2015 at Kyungpook National University Hospital, Daegu, South Korea were enrolled for this prospective study. Quantitative pyrosequencing was performed to quantify the methylation level of for CpG sites in the LINE-1 promotor. The expression of CD133 and ST18 were measured by immunohistochemistry and their correlation with LINE-1 methylation levels were analyzed. Results: LINE-1 was significantly hypomethylated in tumor tissues compared with nontumor tissues (64.0 ±11.6% vs. 75.6 ±4.0%, respectively, P<0.0001). In this study population, LINE-1 hypomethylation group had a large proportion of female gender, smaller tumor size, and nonexistence of ascites (P< 0.05). Contrary to previous reports, LINE-1 hypomethylation was not an independent risk factor for overall survival and disease progression (all P >0.05). A total of 81 (84.4%) patients had demethylation of LINE-1 (ΔMI<0), and 15 (15.6%) patients had hypermethylation of LINE-1 (ΔMI≥0). HCC with demethylation of LINE-1 (ΔMI<0) had higher CD 133 expression than HCC with hypermethylation of LINE-1 (ΔMI≥0) (P=0.011). Moreover, when patients divided into two groups based on the mean value of tumor line-1 methylation, ST18 showed borderline significance in distinguishing the LINE-1 hypomethylation group than the other (P=0.053). Conclusions: LINE-1 demethylation is associated with expression of CD133 and ST18 in Hepatocellular carcinoma. In this study, LINE-1 hypomethylation was not related to overall survival and disease progression, this is probably due to the enrollment of HCC patients with various tumor stages and liver function.
