        This study was carried out to nvestigate- the effects of T-P concentrations in irrigation water on the growth, yield, and grain quality of rice. It acquire fundamental knowledges to set up irrigation water quality standards. The pot experiment was conducted with 5 treatments using irrigation water. It consisted of various total phosphorus concentrations (control, 1, 2, 5, 10 mg/L) and replicated four times with randomized block design. the results of this study showed that as t-P concentrations in irrigation water increases, plant height tended to increase. Dry weight of rice plant at t-P 10 mg/L was significantly higher than the control. However, t-P in irrigation water did not affect plant height, tiller number, plant; dry weight, yield, and quality of rice.

        운동형태가 청소년의 상태불안 감소에 미치는 영향

        과거의 운동심리학(exorcise psychology) 문헌들은 일회(acute) 운동 후에 상태불안이 감소되어 기분이 좋아지는 효과를 얻을 수 있다고 밝혀왔다. 이 연구의 목적은 어떤 형태(유산소 대 무산소)의 일회 운동이 청소년의 상태불안과 그에 관련된 생리변인들에 보다 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 지를 비교하고자 하는 것이었다. 12명의 남자중학교 학생들을 6명씩 두 집단으로 나누어 한 집단에게는 유산소운동을 다른 집단에게는 무산소운동을 시킨 후, 1주일 후에는 서로 역할을 교대시키는 반복측정을 하였다. 유산소운동은 심박수를 이용하여 최대운동능력(VO_2peak)의 75%강도로 트레드밀에서 20분간 달리기를 하는 것이었고, 무산소운동은 5개의 웨이트트레이닝을 십회반복최대(10RM)의 75% 강도로 돌아가며 20분간 실시하는 것이었다. 각 운동 전·후에는 20분 동안 안정을 취한 뒤 상태불안, 체온, 그리고 혈압을 차례로 측정하였다. 각 운동조건의 평균을 비교하기 위한 통계분석을 사전점사 결과를 공변인으로 하고 사후점사 결과를 종속변인으로 하는 공변량분석(ANCOVA)을 실시하였다. 자료처리 결과, 유산소운동과 무산소운동 후 어떤 변인들에도 유의한 차이가 나타나지 않았다(p<.05). 따라서 청소년의 상태불안을 감소시키는 데는 운동형태간에 차이가 없으며 그러한 연구에 대해 지속적인 관심과 필요성이 강조되었다. The purpose of this study was to examine aerobic versus anaerobic exercise effect on state anxiety reduction and related physiological variables in middle school students. A total of twelve male subjects were assigned to 20-minute condition in each exercise with the intensity of 75% of VO_2peak and 75% of 10 Repetition Maximum. State anxiety(Spielberger, Gorsuch, Lushene, Vagg, & Jacobs, 1983), body temperature, and blood pressure were assessed 20-minute before and after each exercise. One-way analysis of covariance(ANCOVA) indicated that the self-reported state anxiety, the body temperature, and the blood pressure were not significantly different between the 2 types of exercise. In conclusion, it is too premature to state that aerobic exercise is better than anaerobic exercise on state anxiety reduction in adolescents.

      • 자기정렬공정에 의한 GaAs/ AlGaAs 광위상변조기의 제작 및 특성 측정

        MOCVD(metal-organic chemical vapour deposition) 방법으로 성장시킨 이중 이종접합구조GaAs / AlGaAs 웨이퍼를 이용하여 광위상변조기를 제작하였다. 제작과정에서 도파로와 절연층의 형성시 동일 포토레지스트 패턴을 이용하는 자기정렬공정을 개발하여 그 효용성을 입증하였다. Fabry-Perot 간섭법을 이용하여 변조기의 위상변조효율을 측정하였으며, 1.31㎛ 파장에서 TE 편광의 경우 22.5˚/Vmm의 위상변조특성을 얻었다. An optical phase modulator is fabricated in GaAs / AlGaAs double heterostructure wafer grown by MOCVD. A self-aligned process, in which the same photoresist pattern is used for both the waveguide etching and the insulation layer formation, is developed and is found to be very useful. Fabry-Perot interference technique is applied to the measurement and the phase modulation efficiency is measured to be 22.5˚/Vmm at 1.31㎛ for TE polarization.

        Multivalent ion-based <i>in situ</i> gelling polysaccharide hydrogel as an injectable bone graft

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We prepared <I>in situ</I> gelling alginate (ALG)/hyaluronic acid (HA) hydrogels with a controllable gelation rate using CaSO<SUB>4</SUB> as a crosslinking agent and Na<SUB>2</SUB>HPO<SUB>4</SUB> as a crosslinking retardation agent. The ALG/HA hydrogels provided sustained release of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) immobilized in the hydrogels over 5 weeks. The BMP-2-immobilized ALG/HA hydrogels with different ALG/HA ratios were investigated for their <I>in vitro</I> osteogenic differentiation behavior of human bone marrow stem cells (<I>h</I>BMSCs) and <I>in vivo</I> bone regeneration behavior using an animal model (mandibular defect model of miniature pigs). Our findings from cell culture and animal study demonstrated that the osteogenic differentiation of <I>h</I>BMSCs was improved with increasing HA composition in the hydrogel. The <I>h</I>BMSCs/BMP-2-immobilized ALG/HA hydrogel allowed greatly enhanced osteogenic differentiation of <I>h</I>BMSCs (<I>in vitro</I>) and bone regeneration (<I>in vivo</I>) compared with the ALG/HA hydrogel itself and single hBMSCs- or BMP-2-immobilized hydrogel groups.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> <I>In situ</I> gelling ALG/HA hydrogel with a controllable gelation rate is prepared. </LI> <LI> BMP-2 immobilized in the ALG/HA hydrogel is continuously released over 5 weeks. </LI> <LI> Osteogenic differentiation of <I>h</I>BMSCs is improved with increasing HA composition. </LI> <LI> The <I>h</I>BMSCs/BMP-2-immobilized ALG/HA hydrogel greatly enhances bone regeneration. </LI> </UL> </P>

        Methylation Signature for Prediction of Progression Free Survival in Surgically Treated Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma

        <P><B>Background</B></P><P>Little is known about epigenetic silencing of genes by promoter hypermethylation in renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The aim of this study was to identify prognostic methylation markers in surgically treated clear cell RCC (ccRCC).</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>Methylation patterns were assayed using the Infinium HumanMethylation450 BeadChip array on pairs of ccRCC and normal tissue from 12 patients. Using quantitative PSQ analysis, tumor-specific hypermethylated genes were validated in 25 independent cohorts and their clinical relevance was also verified in 152 independent cohorts.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Using genome-wide methylation array, Zinc finger protein 278 (<I>ZNF278</I>), Family with sequence similarity 155 member A (<I>FAM155A</I>) and Dipeptidyl peptidase 6 (<I>DPP6</I>) were selected for tumor-specific hypermethylated genes in primary ccRCC. The promoter methylation of these genes occurred more frequently in ccRCC than normal kidney in independent validation cohort. The hypermethylation of three genes were associated with advanced tumor stage and high grade tumor in ccRCC. During median follow-up of 39.2 (interquartile range, 15.4–79.1) months, 22 (14.5%) patients experienced distant metastasis. Multivariate analysis identified the methylation status of these three genes, either alone, or in a combined risk score as an independent predictor of distant metastasis.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>The promoter methylation of <I>ZNF278</I>, <I>FAM155A</I> and <I>DPP6</I> genes are associated with aggressive tumor phenotype and early development of distant metastasis in patients with surgically treated ccRCC. These potential methylation markers, either alone, or in combination, could provide novel targets for development of individualized therapeutic and prevention regimens.</P>

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Cerebral β-amyloid (cAβ) deposition and cholinergic dysfunction have been considered as major pathological and functional hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) is one of the major cholinergic enzymes, and there is no report to show the relationship between cAβ accumulation and peripheral AChE alteration in early stage of AD pathogenesis. Recent studies demonstrate that cAβ starts to deposit 15–20 years ahead of symptomatic appearance and this preclinical AD is important for early diagnosis of disease. In this study, we investigated the link between cAβ deposition and the peripheral AChE in cognitively normal (CN) individuals. A total of 407 individuals who underwent Pittsburgh compound B (PiB)-positron emission tomography participated in our study. Lower levels of plasma AChE and its enzymatic activity were detected in CN individuals with cAβ deposition than in those without cAβ. Plasma AChE levels and enzymatic activity were negatively correlated with the degree of cAβ deposition. Our results suggest that blood AChE can be used as a potential blood biomarker for the prediction of cAβ deposition in CN individuals.</P>

        Long-term Activation of c-Jun N-terminal Kinase through Receptor Interacting Protein is Associated with DNA Damage-induced Cell Death

        Activation of c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), a member of the mitogen-activated protein kinase family, is an important cellular response that modulates the outcome of the cells which are exposed to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) or the genotoxic stress including DNA damaging agents. Although it is known that JNK is activated in response to genotoxic stress, neither the pathways to transduce signals to activate JNK nor the primary sensors of the cells that trigger the stress response have been identified. Here, we report that the receptor interacting protein (RIP), a key adaptor protein of TNF signaling, was required to activate JNK in the cells treated with certain DNA damaging agents such as adriamycin (Adr) and 1-${\beta}$-D-arabinofuranosylcytosine (Ara-C) that cause slow and sustained activation, but it was not required when treated with N-methyl-N-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) and short wavelength UV, which causes quick and transient activation. Our findings revealed that this sustained JNK activation was not mediated by the TNF (tumor necrosis factor) receptor signaling, but it required a functional ATM (ataxia telangiectasia) activity. In addition, JNK inhibitor SP-600125 significantly blocked the Adr-induced cell death, but it did not affect the cell death induced by MNNG. These findings suggest that the sustained activation of JNK mediated by RIP plays an important role in the DNA damage-induced cell death, and that the duration of JNK activation relays a different stress response to determine the cell fate.

        A Randomized Phase III Study of Patients With Advanced Gastric Adenocarcinoma Without Progression After Six Cycles of XELOX (Capecitabine Plus Oxaliplatin) Followed by Capecitabine Maintenance or Clinical Observation

        Purpose: Oxaliplatin, a component of the capecitabine plus oxaliplatin (XELOX) regimen, has a more favorable toxicity profile than cisplatin in patients with advanced gastric cancer (GC). However, oxaliplatin can induce sensory neuropathy and cumulative, dose-related toxicities. Thus, the capecitabine maintenance regimen may achieve the maximum treatment effect while reducing the cumulative neurotoxicity of oxaliplatin. This study aimed to compare the survival of patients with advanced GC between capecitabine maintenance and observation after 1st line XELOX chemotherapy. Materials and Methods: Sixty-three patients treated with six cycles of XELOX for advanced GC in six hospitals of the Catholic University of Korea were randomized 1:1 to receive capecitabine maintenance or observation. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS), analyzed using a two-sided log-rank test stratified at a 5% significance level. Results: Between 2015 and 2020, 32 and 31 patients were randomized into the maintenance and observation groups, respectively. After randomization, the median number of capecitabine maintenance cycles was 6. The PFS was significantly higher in the maintenance group than the observation group (6.3 vs. 4.1 months, P=0.010). Overall survival was not significantly different between the 2 groups (18.2 vs. 16.5 months, P=0.624). Toxicities, such as hand-foot syndrome, were reported in some maintenance group patients. Maintenance treatment was a significant factor associated with PFS in multivariate analysis (hazard ratio, 0.472; 95% confidence interval, 0.250–0.890; P=0.020). Conclusions: After 6 cycles of XELOX chemotherapy, capecitabine maintenance significantly prolonged PFS compared with observation, and toxicity was manageable. Maintenance treatment was a significant prognostic factor associated with PFS.
