        Battery-free Digital Tooling Head using Wireless Power Transmission

        This study demonstrates a battery-free digital tooling head (BF-DTH) for real-time monitoring of a rotating machine tool. As tooling heads include more digital electronics and consume more power with improved functionalities, replacement and management of batteries become major issues. A BF-DTH using wireless power transmission is proposed to resolve these issues. The BF-DTH is composed of a transmitter/receiver (TX/RX) coil pair, converters, a wireless microcontroller and thermal sensor. The microcontroller, powered by a wirelessly transmitted and converted DC voltage, measures the tool’s temperature and continuously transmits data from the rotating BF-DTH to an external wireless terminal. The delivered RX power was measured to be 32 mW at 15% efficiency, with the RX converter providing a constant DC voltage regardless of spindle speeds of up to 1200 RPM. The BF-DTH system could be effectively used for emerging smart factory applications, where smart DTHs consume moderate to high power.

        Trends in National Pharmaceutical Expenditure in Korea during 2011 - 2020

        Background: This study aimed to identify the trends in pharmaceutical expenditure (PE), share of PE in health expenditure (HE), and trends in expenditure by pharmacological groups (ATC level 1 classification) in Korea for a 10-year period (2011 - 2020) and compare the data with those of other Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries. Using the findings, we determined the current status of pharmaceutical expenditure (PE) management in Korea and derived the implications for establishing future macroscopic policies on PE. Materials and Methods: We analyzed the OECD Health Statistics and the Korean national health insurance claims database from January 2011 through December 2020. The outcome measures were HE, PE, and pharmaceutical sales data for ATC level 1 medicines from OECD Health Statistics data during 2011 - 2020. As OECD collects limited ATC level 1 data, we used the HIRA health insurance claims data for PEs of ATC level-1 classification, including D, L, P, and S. Results: PE in Korea increased by 38.5% from 19.9 billion USD in 2011 to 27.6 billion USD in 2020, whereas the share of PE in HE decreased by 6.3%p from 26.4% in 2011 to 20.1% in 2020. In 2020, Korea ranked third in PE per capita (760.9 USD PPP) and had the highest share of PE (20.1%) among the 19 OECD countries studied. By ATC level 1 class, the highest PE was A (alimentary tract and metabolism) at 4.3 billion USD, and L (antineoplastic and immunomodulating agents) had the highest increase at 13.4%; in contrast, J (anti-infectives for systemic use) had the lowest increase in annual average PE at −0.2% in 2020 relative to 2011. Among the 17 OECD countries, Korea had the highest and the third-highest expenditures for ATC codes A and J, respectively. Conclusion: PE in Korea has continued to increase between 2011 and 2020, indicating the need for macroscopic management of PE. Our results on PE by ATC code may help health authorities in establishing future policies on PE.

        GaN계 청색 발광 다이오드에서 저전류 스트레스 후의 광 및 전기적 특성 변화

        c-plane 사파이어 기판에서 성장된 1 $mm^2$ 대면적 InGaN/GaN 다중양자우물 청색 발광 다이오드의 스트레스 전후의 전기적, 광학적 특성 변화를 분석하였다. 스트레스 실험은 샘플 칩을 TO-CAN에 패키징하여 50 mA의 전류를 200시간 동안 인가하여 수행하였다. 스트레스 인가 전류는 다이오드의 순전압 특성을 이용한 접합온도(junction temperature) 측정 실험을 통하여 충분히 낮은 접합온도를 유지하는 값으로 선택하였다. 이렇게 선택한 50 mA의 전류 인가량에서 접합온도는 약 308 K였다. 308 K의 접합온도는 접촉저항(ohmic contact) 또는 GaN계 물질의 특성 변화에 영향을 주지 않는다고 가정하고 실험을 진행하였다. 스트레스 전후에 전류-전압, 광량-전류, 표면 광분포, 파장 스펙트럼 및 상대적 외부양자효율 특성을 측정 및 분석하였다. 측정결과, 스트레스 후 저전류 구간에서의 광량이 감소하고 상대적 외부양자효율이 감소하는 현상을 관찰하였다. 우리는 이러한 현상이 결함의 증가로 인한 비발광 재결합률 증가로부터 기인함을 이론적으로 검토하고 실험결과의 분석을 통하여 보였다. We analyzed the changes in electrical and optical characteristics of 1 $mm^2$ multiple-quantum-well (MQW) blue LEDs grown on a c-plane sapphire substrate after a stress test. Experiments were performed by injecting 50 mA current for 200 hours to TO-CAN packaged sample chips. We selected the value of injection current for stress through the junction-temperature measurement by using the forward-voltage characteristics of a diode to maintain a sufficiently low junction temperature during the test. The junction temperature at the selected injection current of 50 mA was 308 K. Experiments were performed under the assumption that the average junction temperature of 308 K did not affect the characteristics of the ohmic contact and the GaN-based materials. Before and after the stress test, we measured and analyzed current-voltage, light-current, light distribution on the LED surface, wavelength spectrum and relative external quantum efficiency (EQE). After the stress test, it was observed experimentally that the optical power and the relative EQE decreased. We theoretically investigated and experimentally proved that these phenomena are due to the increased nonradiative recombination rate caused by the increased defect density.

        Objectives : Gambling disorder (GD) is defined as persistent and recurrent problematic gambling behavior leading to clinically significant impairment or distress. GD can cause personal, vocational, legal, and financial problems. However, the gold standard for treating GD has not been established yet. This re-view summarizes the screening, diagnosis, assessment, and treatment for GD. Methods : We referred to new and previously published studies and guidelines. Results : We introduced screening methods such as self-report scales and described DSM-5 diagnostic criteria. We also suggested essential information worthy of considering during the assessment stage. Explanations about treatment included novel options and conventional methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy and pharmacotherapy. Finally, we created an algorithm for treating GD. Conclusion : This review not only provides a summary for GD treatment, but also serves as a reference for designing future studies on GD.

        한국판 아동용 디지털 중독 척도의 타당화 연구

        본 연구는 Hawi, Samaha와 Griffiths가 개발한 아동용 디지털 중독 척도(The Digital Addiction Scale for Children; DASC)를 한국어로 번안하고 그 타당성을 검증하고자 한다. 만 9-12세를 대상으로 개발된 원척도를 국내에 번안 및 타당화하기 위해 평소 디지털 기기를 사용하는 만 9-12세 294명의 데이터를 가지고 탐색적 요인분석, 확인적 요인분석, 내적 일치도와 공인타당도 및 구성타당도 분석을 실시하였다. 탐색적 요인분석과 확인적 요인분석을 통해 원척도와 동일하게 9준거를 기반으로 한 2요인 12문항이 가장 적합한 것으로 나타났다. 추가로, 신뢰도와 타당도 분석을 실시하여 본 척도가 한국 아동들의 디지털 중독을 신뢰 수준이 높고 타당하게 측정하는 도구임을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 아동의 디지털 중독 문제가 심각해지고 있는 상황에서 선행척도들의 한계점을 보완하고 있는 아동용 디지털 중독 척도를 국내에서 활용하기 위해 국내 실정에 맞게 번안 및 타당화함으로써 관련 분야 연구의 기초를 닦았다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

        Clinical Implications of Microsatellite Instability in Early Gastric Cancer

        Purpose: We aimed to evaluate the clinical characteristics of microsatellite instability in early gastric cancer. Materials and Methods: The microsatellite instability status of resected early gastric tumors was evaluated using two mononucleotide repeat markers (BAT25 and BAT26) and three dinucleotide repeat markers (D5S346, D2S123, and D17S250). Tumors with instability in two or more markers were defined as microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) and others were classified as microsatellite stable (MSS). Results: Overall, 1,156 tumors were included in the analysis, with 85 (7.4%) classified as MSI-H compared with MSS tumors. For MSI-H tumors, there was a significant correlation with the female sex, older age, tumor location in the lower gastric body, intestinal histology, lymphovascular invasion (LVI), and submucosal invasion (P<0.05). There was also a trend toward an association with lymph node (LN) metastasis (P=0.056). In mucosal gastric cancer, there was no significant difference in MSI status in tumors with LN metastasis or tumors with LVI. In submucosal gastric cancer, LVI was more frequently observed in MSI-H than in MSS tumors (38.9% vs. 25.0%, P=0.027), but there was no difference in the presence of LN metastases. The prognosis of MSI-H tumors was similar to that of MSS tumors (log-rank test, P=0.797, the hazard ratio for MSI-H was adjusted by age, sex, pT stage, and the number of metastatic LNs, 0.932; 95% confidence interval, 0.423-2.054; P=0.861). Conclusions: MSI status was not useful in predicting prognosis in early gastric cancer. However, the frequent presence of LVI in early MSI-H gastric cancer may help guide the appropriate treatment for patients, such as endoscopic treatment or limited LN surgical dissection.

        Ultrasonic MQL System for Generating Size-controlled Droplets

        We present an ultrasonic MQL system for generating size-controlled droplets, engaging the requirement of variations in MQL droplet size depending on the used machining process and material. The proposed system architecture features four series chambers with a different vibrating mesh actuator; it demonstrates that a wide range of material- and machining process-specific lubrication requirements can be achieved by varying the mist atomization rate and droplet diameter. The vibrating-mesh outlet pore sizes were differentiated between 2 to 20 μm and driven by a 100 V peak-to-peak bipolar sinusoidal voltage. The oil with a kinematic viscosity of 8.9 cSt contacted the atomizing surface using an FLDC-configuration. Four-size mists were generated with mean volumetric droplet diameters of 19.1, 21.7, 39.0 and 48.3 μm; their atomization rates vary between 1.3 to 39.4 ml/h. The droplet size control must provide more flexibility for emerging ultrasonic MQL systems with improved lubrication and optimized machine-working performance.
