      • Molecular Mechanisms of Microglial Deactivation by $TGF-{\beta}-inducible$ Protein ${\beta}ig-h3$

        [ ${\beta}ig-h3$ ] is a secretory protein that is induced by $TGF-{\beta}$ and implicated in various disease conditions including fibrosis. We have previously reported that ${\beta}ig-h3$ expression is implicated in astrocyte response to brain injury. In this study, we further investigated potential roles of ${\beta}ig-h3$ protein in the injured central nervous system (CNS). We specifically assessed whether the treatment of microglial cells with ${\beta}ig-h3$ can regulate microglial activity. Microglial cells are the prime effector cells in CNS immune and inflammatory responses. When activated, they produce a number of inflammatory mediators, which can promote neuronal injury. We prepared conditioned medium from the stable CHO cell line transfected with human ${\beta}ig-h3$ cDNA. We then examined the effects of the conditioned medium on the LPS- or $IFN-{\gamma}-mediated$ induction of proinflammatory molecules in microglial cells. Preincubation with the conditioned medium significantly attenuated LPS-mediated upregulation of $TNF-{\alpha},\;IL-1{\beta}$, iNOS and COX-2 mRNA expression in BV2 murine microglial cells. It also reduced $IFN-{\gamma}-mediated$ upregulation of $TNF-{\alpha}$ and COX-2 mRNA expression but not iNOS mRNA expression. Assays of nitric oxide release correlated with the mRNA data, which showed selective inhibition of LPS-mediated nitric oxide production. Although the regulatory mechanisms need to be further investigated, these results suggest that astrocyte-derived ${\beta}ig-h3$ may contribute to protection of the CNS from immune-mediated damage via controlling microglial inflammatory responses.

        신경교종 47예에 대한 임상적 고찰

        Intracranial gliomas were the most common tumor in the central nervous system. They are purely infiltrating tumors except ependymomas, so that the surgical management of glioma without racurrence was very difficult even if total enucleation of growth zone. Recently the chemotherapy and radiation therapy have been studied for intracranial tumors, especially glioblastoma and medulloblastoma, as well as preoperative shunt operation in secondary hydrocephalus due to tumors. The astrocytoma and glioblastoma were occurred commonly in all intracranial gliomas. We analyzed 47 cases of intracranial gliomas which was histologically verified after operation at the National Medical Center from Jan. 1971 to May 1977.

        예비설계 단계에서 외형설계, 구조설계를 위한 하중분포 계산, 발사체의 안정성 및 성능분석을 위하여 데이터베이스형 발사체 공력코드를 개발하였다. 분석방법으로는 동체, 스트랩온 부스터의 공력계수와 동체와 스트랩온 부스터의 간섭 동의 분석을 거쳐 전체 발사체에 대한 분석이 이루어졌다. 발사체 공력코드의 데이터베이스구성은 기존의 DATCOM의 데이터베이스를 기반으로 발사체 형상에 대한 실험데이터(MD)를 추가 구성함으로서 발사체 공력코드의 신뢰성을 증대시켰다. 또한, 기존의 발사체 공력설계코드와 비교 분석을 수행하여 발사체 공력코드를 검증하였다. For the development of launch vehicle, the aerodynamic characteristics have to be performed for the configuration design in the preliminary design, the load distribution in the detail design, and the performance analysis. The static and dynamic coefficients are analyzed for strap on booster, body and strap on booster-body interface characteristics. A detail analysis is required during the detail design phase, but a rapid analysis is better in the preliminary design. Therefore, the database code, based on the theory and experimental datum, is useful to analyze the variety of models during the preliminary design phase, and the computational aerodynamic code is required to calculate the detail load distribution during the detail design phase. In this computational aerodynamic code, based on the database of theoretical and experimental datum, have been developed.

        예비설계 단계에서 외형설계,구조설계를 위한 하중분포 계산,발사체의 안정성 및 성능분석을 위하여 데이터베이스형 발사체 공력코드를 개발하였다. 분석방법으로는 동체, 핀의 공력계수와 동체와 핀의 간섭, 핀과 핀사이의 간섭 등의 분석을 거쳐 전체 발사체에 대한 분석이 이루어졌다. 발사체 공력코드의 데이터베이스구성은 기존의 DATCOM의 데이터베이스를 기반으로 발사체 형상에 대한 실험데이터를 추가 구성함으로서 발사체 공력코드의 신뢰성을 증대시켰다. 또한, 기존의 발사체 공력셜계코드와 비교 분석을 수행하여 발사체 공력코드를 검증하였다.       • 뇌종양 100예의 임상적 고찰

        Tumors of the central nervous system are not rare. Brain tumors cannot be intelligently discussed as a homogeneous entity. Their manner of presentation, their management and their prognosis depend upon their malignancy and the area of brain involved. They are more common than tumors of the stomach and less common than tumors of the breast. Because of their rather high incidence and dismal prognosis much effort has been devoted to controlling these tumors. We analyzed 100 cases of brain tumor which was histologically verified after operation at the National Medical Center from Jan. 1972 to Sep. 1976. The brain tumors are included 39 cases of glioma, 15 ,cases of meningioma, 12 cases of pituitary adenoma, 9 cases of acoustic neurinoma, 6 cases of craniopharyngioma, 3 cases of metastatic Iesion, 3 cases of blood vessel tumor and 13 cases of miscellaneous tumor. The tumors are occupied on the supratentorial region in 71 cases and infratentorial region in 29 cases, and occurred in midline region in 34 cases, right and left side in each 31 cases and both side in 4 cases. 100 cases comprised 69 Males and 31 females with a ratio of 2.2 to 1. The age ranged from 3 years to 59 years with the highest incidence at second deca des, but the age incidence was evenly distributed at different age groups. They complained of headache (94 cases), nausea and vomiting (58 cases) and papilledema (58 cases), so called _symptoms trail of the brain tumor, and other eye complaints (56 cases) with 6 month-to 3 year-duration of symptoms in about half cases of the brain tumors. Calcification was showed on the plain skull x-ray films in 10 cases; craniopharyngioma 3/6 cases, glioma 3/39 cases, meningioma 3/6 cases, pinealoma and choroid plexus papilloma in each one case. After question of the brain-tumors, the symptoms are much irnptoved in'I 1 cases, more improved in 34 cases, equivocal in 30 cases and more aggravated in 13 cases, and 11 cases are fatal and 14 cases are recurrent. - 35 cases are received radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy after operation.

        다발성 뇌낭충증 : Case Report

        Cerebral cysticercosis is, unfortunately, a frequent disease in Korea. The clinical symptoms, however resembled that of .space occufying lesion of the brain, are dependent on the location, number of parasite, intensity of infestation and susceptibility of the host. Palpation of the subcutaneons nodule, eosinophilia in peripheral blood, pleocytosis combined. with increased protein in CSF, specific localizng signs, calcification on plain skull (4.5%) and filling defect on Conray ventriculography or pneumoventriculography, all of them are helpful in diagnosis of cerebral cysticercosis. Medical treatment of cysticercosis is not satisfiable now. Some neurosurgen insisted on they are able to get a good result from surgical removal of the cyst and shunt operation. We have experienced a case of cerebral cysticercosis which had invaded cerebral cortex multitudinously and the third ventricle. So, we discussed this case with brief review of literature.

        The determination of surface topography is believed to be extremely important in the areas of contact mechanics, adhesion and friction. In order to describe topography of various frictional surface, the wear test was carried out under different experimental conditions in dry friction. And fractal descriptors was applied to frictional surface of laser modified steel with image processing system. These descriptors to analyze surface structure are fractal dimension. Surface fractal dimension can be determined by sum of intensity difference of surface pixel. Topography of frictional surface can be effectively obtained by fractal dimensions.

      • HBsAg에 오염된 혈액검체에 대한 化學的 消毒劑의 效果에 關한 硏究

        병원에서 각종 진단 목적에 이용되는 환자의 혈액 검체 내에는 세균, 바이러스 등의 병원성 미생물에 감염된 것이 많다. 따라서 본 실험은 검사를 마친 이들 검체의 대부분이 적절한 살균 조작을 거치지 않음으로써 유발될 수 있는 환경오염이나 질병의 전파 등 보건위생상 중대한 문제를 예방하고자 B형 간염 항원 양성 혈장을 사용하여 여러가지 소독제의 바이러스에 대한 불활성화 능력을 방사 면역 측정법(Radioimmunoassay, RIA)으로 측정하였다. 실험 결과는 반응 시간 7시간인 경우 2% 농도에서 benzalkonium chloride가 98.6%로 가장 높았고, glutarldehyde는 92.3%, MLDGH는 88.6%였으며, NaOCl은 68.8%의 순서로 나타났다. 따라서 2% benzalkonium chloride를 사용하는 것이 가장 효과적인 것으로 평가되었다. Contaminated blood with microorganism and virus is put into the environment without any discontamination treatment. It may give rise to a serious health and sanitation problems and also to a threat of spreading infectious disease. In order to select the appropriate disinfectant and disinfection procedure, the teats performed in vitro via artificially contaminated blood with hepatitis B surface antigen(HBs Ag) positive plasma using several disinfectants commonly used in hospitals. The tested disinfectants were sodium hypochlorite(NaOCL), sodium dichloroisocyanurate(NaDCC), ethyl alcohol(EtOH), povidon iodine, cresol soap, benzalkonium chloride, mono-laurel-di(aminoethyl)-glycin HCI(MLDGH) and glutaraldehyde. The HBs Ag inactivation study was performed using the Radioimmunoassay(RIA) method. The results were as follows ; The inactivation effect on the HBs Ag of the benzalkonium chloride, glutaraldehyde, MLDGH, and NaOCL was 98.6%. 92.3%, 88.6% and 68.8% with in 5 hours after disinfection on the same 2% concentration, respectively. In conclusion, this study provided useful information for the 2% benalkonium chloride is the best disinfectants in consideration of the chemical stability, economy, and sanitation.
