Objective : Our purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the transcatheter arterial embolization for the management of abnormal uterine bleeding. Materials and Methods : 14 patients with massive or recurrent uterine bleeding underwent percutaneous transcatheter arterial embolization between February 2003 and September 2004. We reviewed 14 cases of uterine artery or internal iliac artery embolization using gelfoam or PVA particles. Results : Good management of uterine bleeding was achieved in 13 of 14(93%) cases. The cause of abnormal uterine bleeding was myoma(5 case), post D & E bleeding(3), acquired vascular malformation(3), pseudoaneurysm(1), adenomyosis(1), and endometrial hyperplasia(1). Conclusion : Transcatheter artery embolization is an effective and life-saving procedure in massive or recurrent uterine bleeding. Early diagnosis and prompt transcatheter arterial embolization is a useful mangement of uterine bleeding.
Study on the Design of a New Heatsink Cooling System for Thermoelectric Dehumidifier

A thermoelectric dehumidifier may be built smaller than a compressor type dehumidifier of the same capacity; however, its efficiency is lower. This study proposes a new heat dissipation structure to improve the performance of a thermoelectric module (TEM) for the dehumidifier. The new structure ensures that cooled and dehumidified air flows through one or more holes inside the heatsink base. The design parameters selected for the orthogonal array experiments are existence of the holes, drive voltage of the TEM, air inflow rate, and the cooling fan position. Experimental results reveal that the air flow through the holes has the greatest effect on dehumidification efficiency. Through subsequent experiments, the number of holes and drive voltage of TEM required to maximize dehumidification capacity and coefficient of performance are obtained.
낙동강수계 댐과 다기능보의 연계운영을 통한 용수공급효율화에 관한 연구

In order to determine the best operating rules for the Nakdong River, three cases were applied to analyze the simulated results of water supply capacity by HEC-ResSim model. This study discussed to present the best operating rules for conjunctive operating of existing the dams and new constructed the weirs through system network. The system network was constructed considering the water supply, the river environment and the operating facility. The water supply capacities are separately evaluated for each case applying the best rules. It is case1 that the dams are operated individually, case2 that the dams are operated in conjunction with the others dams, and case3 that dams and weirs are operated in conjunction with the others dams-weirs. Comparing the cases, case 3 has shown the best water supply capacity of the Nakdong River.

본 연구에서는 김치에서 분리한 유산균이 ACE 억제효과와 본태성 고혈압쥐의 혈압에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 김치에서 분리한 유산균의 배양액 및 lysozyme법, sonication법, solvent extract 법으로 균체를 추출하여 ACE 억제효과를 살펴본 결과, 배양액 보다는 균체를 이용하여 추출한 추출물에서 공시균주에 비해 ACE 억제효과가 높은 것으로 확인되었다. 균체 추출시료 중 LG 7, 8, 42가 전반적으로 높은 ACE 억제효과를 나타내어 이들의 균체를 본태성 고혈압쥐(SHR)에게 4주간 투여한 결과, WKY 대조군(I)이 4주간 81 g 정도의 체중 증가를 보인 반면, SHR 대조군(V)은 52 g 정도의 체중 증가를 보여 정상혈압 쥐에 비해 고혈압 쥐의 체중의 증가가 낮은 것으로 나타났으며, 유산균의 장기투여가 고혈압 쥐의 체중 및 장기무게에 유의적인 영향을 주지 않았다. 혈청 중 총 콜레스테롤 농도와 중성지질 농도는 SHR 대조군(V)에 비해 유산균 투여군(X, XI)에서 약간 감소하는 경향을 보였으나 유의적인 차는 아니었으며, SHR에 LG 42 유산균을 섭취시킴으로서 총 콜레스테롤과 중성지질의 농도는 감소하고, HDL 콜레스테롤의 농도는 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 유산균 투여 후 4주째의 최종 혈압을 비교한 결과, LG 42를 투여함에 따라 기준혈압에 비해 농도 의존적(1×10sup{7}, 1×10sup{9} cfu/mL)으로 각각 12, 27% 감소하였다. This study was conducted to evaluate the anti-hypertensive effect of Lactobacillus sp. isolated from Kimchi by examining its effects on renal angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity, lipid components and blood pressure using the spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) system. Most Lactobacillus sp. extracts (lysozyme, sonication and ethyl acetate extracts) showed higher capacities for the inhibition of ACE activity than those of cultured media. Particularly, LG 7, 8 and 42 of Lactobacillus sp. showed the strongest inhibitory activity among the Lactobacillus sp. extracts. The concentrations of total cholesterol and triglycerides in the serum were lower in the Lactobacillus sp. administration groups than in the control group, but these differences were not significant. The HDL-cholesterol concentrations of the LG 42 administration groups (IX, X) were significantly higher than that of the control group. At 4 weeks, the systolic blood pressure (SBP) in the LG 42 Lactobacillus sp. (1×109 cfu/mL) group (XI) was about 27% lower than that of the control group (V). No adverse effects were observed on the liver and there was no difference in the aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) values among groups. The results of this study suggest that long term consumption of LG 42 Lactobacillus sp. may be beneficial to the prevention of high blood pressure.
개다래 초임계 박추출물이 염증 및 동맥경화에 미치는 영향

개다래(Actinidia polyama Max.)는 복통, 류마티스 관절염, 뇌졸중 치료에 사용되었으며, 최근 소염, 진통, 통풍에 효과가 있다고 알려져 있으나 특유의 강한 향과 맛을 지니고 있어 기능성 식품이나 치료용 약물을 개발하고자 할 때 많은 제약이 따른다. 따라서 개다래를 초임계 추출하여 향과 맛을 개선하고, 본 연구에서는 초임계추출 후 남은 부산물을 이용하여 (박)추출물을 제조하고 항염증 및 항동맥경화 활성을 조사하였다. 개다래 주정 추출물 및 초임계 박 추출물의 NO 소거활성을 비교한 결과, 개다래박 11 추출물 10, 100 ㎍/㎖의 농도에서 36.63, 79.58%의 NO 소거활성을 보여 주정 추출물(4.61, 19.00%)에 비해 훨씬 높은 NO 소거활성을 보였다. 또한 RAW 264.7 세포주에 개다래 초임계 박 11 추출물을 처리하고, LPS를 처리하여 염증을 유발한 후염증인자인 PGE₂의 생성, 그리고 proinflammatory cytokines인 TNF-α의 생성량을 측정한 결과, 개다래 박 11 추출물은 LPS로 유도된 염증 인자들을 효과적으로 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 박 11 추출물의 MMP-9 활성에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 zymography를 실시한 결과, 추출물 50, 100 ㎍/㎖의 농도에서 MMP-9의 활성이 효과적으로 감소됨을 확인하였으며, MMP-9의 단백질 발현도 억제됨을 확인하였다. 결론적으로 개다래 박11 추출물은 LPS로 유도된 염증 인자들을 효과적으로 감소시켰으며, TNF-α에 의해 증가된 MMP-9의 활성을 억제하는 것으로 나타나 동맥경화를 비롯한 고혈압, 암, 당뇨, 관절염 등의 만성염증성 질환의 예방과 치료에 효과적으로 적용할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다. The fruit of Actinidia polygama, Mock-chun-ryo in Korea, has been used as traditional medicine for abdominal pain, rheumatic arthritis, and stroke. In a previous study, the ethanol extract of A. polygama Max. showed antiinflammatory activity in RAW 264.7 cells. In this study, we investigated the anti-inflammatory and anti-atherosclerosis effects of supercritical fluid marc extracts from A. polygama Max. Anti-inflammatory extracts were produced from supercritical fluid extraction of the silver vine under the following conditions; pressure, 1,500-4,500 psi, temperature 35-55℃ and extraction time 1-2 hr. To evaluate the anti-inflammatory and anti-atherosclerotic effects of the extracts, we studied nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin E₂ (PGE₂), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) levels in RAW 264.7 cells and MMP-9 activity in human aortic smooth muscle cells (HASMC). The Marc 11 extract inhibited the production of NO, PGE₂, and TNF-α by lipopolysaccharide in RAW 264.7 cells. Moreover, the marc 11 extract inhibited TNF-α-induced MMP-9 activity in HASMC. These results indicate that the Marc 11 extract of A. polygama Max. has the potential for use as an anti-atherosclerosis agent.
