      • Carrageenan 유도 관절염에 대한 灸律 藥鍼의 진통작용

        Objectives: This study was produced to examine the effects of moxibustion that had been played important role to traditional oriental medical treatment on disease. Recently, it was reported that moxi-tar which is generated in the process of moxibustion as burning combustibles decreased nitric oxide(NO) and inducible NO synthase (iNOS) generation in cellular experiments. Methods: Carrageenan-induced arthritis rat model was used to test the effect of moxi-tar as a chronic pain model. Diluted moxi-tar was single injected in several acupoints or combined with electroacupuncture (1 ms, 2 Hz, and 2 mA) into contralateral ST36 acupoint for 30 min to assess the synergic effects. After the treatment, behavioral tests measuring stepping force were periodically conducted during the next 12 hours. Endogenous NO and iNOS, cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), and c-Fos protein expression in the spinal cord were examined on a rat model of carrageenan-induced arthritis. Results : After the induction of arthritis, rats subsequently showed a reduced stepping force of the affected limb for at least the next 4 days. The reduced stepping force of the limb was presumably due to a painful knee, since oral injection of indomethacin produced temporary improvement of weight bearing. Moxi-tar produced significant improvement of stepping force of the hindlimb affected by the arthritis lasting at least 9 hours. The magnitude of this improvement was equivalent to that obtained after an oral injection of 3 mg/kg of indomethacin and this improvement of stepping force was interpreted as an analgesic effect. Moxi-tar produced the improvement of stepping force of the affected hindlimb in a dose-dependent manner. Both NO production and iNOS, COX-2 protein expression increased by arthritis were suppressed by moxi-tar. Moxi-tar on combination with electroacupuncture (EA) produced more powerful and longer lasting improvement of stepping force of the hindlimb affected by the arthritis than either moxi-tar or EA did. Conclusion : The present study suggest that moxi-tar produces a potent analgesic effect on the chronic knee arthritis pain model in the rat and that moxi-tar-induced analgesia modulate endogenous NO through the suppression of iNOS/COX-2 protein expression.

        In this study, authors measured the each organ weight of the long term water deprived Mongolian gerbil, after then we calculated the mean, standard deviation, variance coefficient of the real measured organ weight and induced the organ weight change quantity, rate of quantity, deviation between measured and theological organ weight, deviation rate, sum of deviation rate, organ weight change rate, rate of organ weight by the mathematical formula. The results obtained as follow 1. The weight of the brains, lung, and testis were abruptly decreased after water deprived until the 5th day, after then slowly decreased until the 20th day. 2. The weight of the heart was decreased gradually from the first day until the 20th day. 3. The weight of the liver was abruptly decreased until the 10th day, after then the more slowly decreased until the 20th day. 4. The weight of the thymus, spleen, kidney, and pancreas were abruptly decreased until the 15th day, after then increased slowly until 20th day but the weight of the kidney was abruptly increased from the 10th day. 5. The organ weight change rate and the rate of the each day organ weight were very diversified.

      • Emodin Inhibits Proinflammatory Responses and Inactivates Histone Deacetylase 1 in Hypoxic Rheumatoid Synoviocytes

        <P>Chronic inflammation of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is promoted by proinflammatory cytokines and closely linked to angiogenesis. In the present study, we investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of emodin (1,3,8-trihydroxy-6-methyl-anthraquinone) isolated from the root of <I>Rheum palmatum</I> L. in interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RA synoviocytes under hypoxia. Emodin significantly inhibited IL-1β and LPS-stimulated proliferation of RA synoviocytes in a dose-dependent manner under hypoxic condition. Also, enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) revealed that emodin significantly reduced the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines [tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), IL-6 and IL-8], mediators [prostagladin E<SUB>2</SUB> (PGE<SUB>2</SUB>), matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-1 and MMP-13] and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) as an angiogenesis biomarker in IL-1β and LPS-treated synoviocytes under hypoxia. Consistently, emodin attenuated the expression of cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2), VEGF, hypoxia inducible factor 1 alpha (HIF-1α), MMP-1 and MMP-13 at mRNA level in IL-1β and LPS-treated synoviocytes under hypoxia. Furthermore, emodin reduced histone deacetylase (HDAC) activity as well as suppressed the expression of HDAC1, but not HDAC2 in IL-1β and LPS-treated synoviocytes under hypoxia. Overall, these findings suggest that emodin inhibits proinflammatory cytokines and VEGF productions, and HDAC1 activity in hypoxic RA synoviocytes.</P>

        생물학적 하수처리공정 변경을 통한 수처리효율 개선

        본 연구는 고농도의 DO를 포함한 하수가 유입되는 하수고도처리시설을 대상으로 기존 생물학적공정(PL-2) 변경을 통한 수처리 개선효과를 제시한 것이다. 탈인슬러지는 MLSS가 높고 DO가 낮으며 탈질 인축적 미생물(DNPAOs)이 포함된 특성을 가지고 있으며, 이 슬러지를 호기조로 유입시키는 기존공정을 수정하여 무산소조로 공급시켜 무산소조의 MLSS와 DO 조건을 개선시켰다. 공정변경후인 2008년 평균처리효율은 총질소가 15.0% 상승한 58.5%, 총인은 10.5% 상승한 64.3%로 나타났으며, 실제로 공정변경 안정기에 접어들면서 일별 최대처리효율은 총질소 86.5%, 총인이 96.2%까지 상승되었다. This study a research on the efficiency of the process(PL-2) renovation in the advanced wastewater treatment plant containing high DO influent. The original PL-2 process was renovated that the process was supplied released phosphorus sludge to the anoxic tank instead of the oxic tank. The released phosphorus sludge contains remarkably high MLSS, low DO and DNPAOs(Denitrifying Phosphate Accumulated Organisms). The results of the renovated process evaluation show that the treatment efficiency of TN and TP rose nearly 15.0% and 10.5% to 58.5% and 64.3%, respectively. The maximal removal efficiency of TN and TP are increased to 86.5% and 96.2% in the period of stabilization.

        연하장애 환자의 흡인을 선별하기 위한 음성기능 검사

        Objective: This study aims to identify the usefulness of voice function in early screening for dysphagia. We sought to evaluate if screening tests through the functions of production and quality of voice were correlated with aspira-tion in dysphagic patients. Methods: This study involved 55 participants who were referred to videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) for suspected dysphagia. Blinded examiners rated the voice production function (MVI, MPT) using a portable instrument and evaluated the quality of voice (jitter, shimmer, NHR) using Visi-pitch. Swallowing functions were also evaluated by utilizing the penetration-aspiration scale (PAS), American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), National Outcome Measurement System (NOMS) swallowing scale and VDS. The patients were divided into two groups, the penetration group, and the aspiration group according to the PAS score. The difference in variables was analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test between the two groups. The relationship between voice parameters and swal-low-related parameters was determined using the Spearman correlation coefficient. In addition, the cut-off, sensi-tivity, and specificity of meaningful variables in silent aspiration were analyzed using the ROC curve analysis. Results: The functions of production and quality of voice were found to be significantly different between the pen-etration and aspiration groups (P<.000). The PAS score was correlated with all parameters of the functions of pro-duction and quality of voice (P<.001). VDS was correlated with MVI, ASHA was correlated with MVI, and Shimmer (P<.001). The meaningful variables for silent aspiration were jitter and shimmer. Conclusion: Through a clinical screening test, it may be possible to predict the difference between penetration and aspiration through the functions of production and quality of voice.

        Effects of Horticultural Therapy Programs on Depression and Self-esteem in Released-Convicts

        This study carried out to identify effect of horticultural therapy programs (HTP) on the changes of depression and self-esteem in released-convicts. HTP were conducted once a week total 4 times (each time 60 minutes) from 7 November to 28, 2016 on 13 released-convicts coming Korea rehabilitation agency Gwangju Jeonnam branch. Measurement methods were used scale of depression, scale of self-esteem, Form for evaluation of HTP. As a result, the mean value of depression was decreased to 11.2 after HTP compared with 17.4 before HTP and there was statistically significant difference (p=.013). And HTP in grade of self esteem was increased to 16.1 after HTP compared with 12.1 before HTP and there was statistically significant difference (p=.001). The result of this study indicated that the horticultural therapy programs has positive effects on depression and self-esteem in released-convicts.

        Carrier frequency of SLC26A4 mutations causing inherited deafness in the Korean population

        Purpose: The mutation of the SLC26A4 gene is the second most common cause of congenital hearing loss after GJB2 mutations. It has been identified as a major cause of autosomal recessive nonsyndromic hearing loss associated with enlarged vestibular aqueduct and Pendred syndrome. Although most studies of SLC26A4 mutations have dealt with hearing-impaired patients, there are a few reports on the frequency of these mutations in the general population. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of SLC26A4 mutations that cause inherited deafness in the general Korean population. Materials and Methods: We obtained blood samples from 144 Korean individuals with normal hearing. The samples were subjected to polymerase chain reaction to amplify the entire coding region of the SLC26A4 gene, followed by direct DNA sequencing. Results: Sequencing analysis of this gene identified 5 different variants (c.147C>G, c.225G>C, c.1723A>G, c.2168A>G, and c.2283A>G). The pathogenic mutation c.2168A>G (p.H723R) was identified in 1.39% (2/144) of the subjects with normal hearing. Conclusion: These data provide information about carrier frequency for SLC26A4 mutation-associated hearing loss and have important implications for genetic diagnostic testing for inherited deafness in the Korean population.
