This investigation aims to the theoretical study on the cover factor of woven and knitted fabrics. The following conclusion are obtained. 1. The cover factor of women fabrics is shown as; √1-[(M(28/K_1-1)+α)/(1+β)]^2+√1-[(M(28/K_2-1)+α}β)/(1+β)]=1 where α=4M/4+π(M-1) 2. The cover factor of triaxial fabrics is shown as; (4cos α+4cos α+3)/(4(1+cos α)^2) 3. The cover factor of knitted fabrics is shown as; d/l=1/(l√N)=1/l√(1.3/g)T 4. Relation between shrinkage, density and thickness is shown as; D=4/3(P_2√C+P_1√C) 5. Relation between diameter of yarn and tickness is shown as; D=34.14(1/√N_1+1/√N_2) where K1, K2; Cover factor of warp and welt. M; Weave factor β; Ratio of weft diameter to warp diameter d; Diameter of knitted yarn l; Loop length N; Worsted count (English systenr) g; Specific gravity of fibre T; Tex count D; Thickness of woven fabrics N_1,N_2; Count of warp and weft.

In order to investigate the effect of 4 kinds of antlers of Cervus elaphus xanthophgus(CEX), Cervus Elaphus dyboskii(CED), Rangifer tartandus articus(RTA) and Cervus nippon manthohurcus(CNM) on immune response and natural killer cell activity(NKCA), the author performed this experimental study. Delayed type hypersensitivity(DTH) and Rosette forming cells(RFC) for cell-mediated immune response, hemagglutin(HA) titers, hemolysin(HL) titers for humoral immune response, carbon clearance for phagocytic function of MPS(mononeuclear phagocyte system), and splenic natural killer cell activity(NKCA) were measured in ICR mice. The results were summarized as follows ; 1. DTH in all of the treated group was increased, as compared with the control group, with statistical significance. 2. RFC in all oof the treated group was increased, as compared with the control group, with statistical significance except for CEX and CED treated group. 3. HA titers increased in all of the treated group as compared with the control group, with statistical significance except for CEX and CNM treated group. 4. HL titers increased in all of the treated group as compared with the control group, but the statistical significance was showed only in case of CNM treated group. 5. Carbon clearance was increased in all of the treated group with the statistical significance. 6. NKCA was increased in all of the treated group with statistical significance except RTA treated group. 7. Through this experimental study in ICR mice, these findings suggest that CEX, CED, RRA and CNM generally enhence both cell-mediated and humoral immune response, phagocytic function of MPS andNKCA except CEX in humoral immune response and RTA in NKCA.

The diagnostic requirements were suggested and explained regarding the systems of differentiation of symptoms and signs in the third year study of standardization and unification of the terms and conditions used for diagnosis in oriental medicine. The systems were as follows : - analyzing and differentiating of epidemic febrile disease - analyzing and differentiating in accordance with the Sasang constitution medicine based on four-type recognition - differentiation of disease according to pathological changes of Chong and Ren channels - standards for diagnosis of women's disease - standards for diagnosis of children's disease - standards for diagnosis of motor and sensor disturbance (-muscle. born, joint, etc.) - standards for diagnosis of neuropsychiatric disease - standards for diagnosis of five sense organ disease - standards for diagnosis of external disease The indivisual diagnosis pattern was arranged by the diagnostic requirements in the following order : another name, notion of diagnosis pattern, index of differentiation of symptoms and signs, the main point of diagnosis, analysis of diagnosis pattern, discrimination of diagnosis pattern, prognosis, a way of curing a disease, prescription, herbs in common use, disease appearing the diagnosis pattern, documents. The standards for diagnosis of each disease was arranged by the diagnostic requirements in the following order : another name, notion of disease, the main point of diagnosis, analyzing and differentiating of disease, analysis of disease, discrimination of disease, prognosis, a way of curing and prescription of disease, disease in western medicine appearing the disease in oriental medicine, documents.
Selective catalytic oxidation of H2S using nonhydrolytic vanadia-titania xerogels

A series of vanadia-titania (V-Ti) xerogel catalysts were prepared by nonhydrolytic sol-gel method. These catalysts showed much higher surface area and total pore volumes than the conventional V2O5-TiO2 xerogel. Two species of surface vanadium in the xerogel catalysts were identified by Raman measurements: monomeric vanadyl and polymeric vanadates. The selective oxidation of hydrogen sulfide in the presence of excess water and ammonia was studied over these catalysts. Xerogel catalysts from the nonhydrolytic method showed very high conversion of H2S without harmful emission of SO2. The conversion of H2S increased with increasing vanadia loading up to 10V-Ti; however, it decreased at higher vanadia loading (12V-Ti and 18V-Ti) probably due to the formation of crystalline V2O5.

Sediment quality assessment guidelines(SQAGs) for seven trace elements were suggested to build an assessment system of freshwater sediment quality for a regulatory program in Korea. In this study, current one-step SQAGs were divided into three levels based on the probability of toxicity occurrence, namely, the threshold-effect-level(TEL), the probable-effect-level(PEL), and the apparent-effect-threshold(AET). A sediment toxicity database consisting of field-collected sediments and toxicity results from three different species were used to derive TEL, PEL, and AET. The ambient background concentrations of trace elements in freshwater sediments were used instead of the TEL values because TEL values were lower than the ambient background levels. To validate the reliability of the new SQAGs, a separate sediment toxicity database based on G. sobaegensis was used. When the mean quotient value for the PEL was 0.34, the reliability reached a maximum of 87% with a positive predictive value of 94% and a negative predictive value of 85%. These results showed the newly derived SQAGs were very useful for assessing and predicting the toxicity of field sediments in Korea. Finally, ambient background concentrations, a mean quotient of PEL of 0.34, and AETs were used to classify the quality of the field-collected sediments into four categories.

Here in this study, we isolated 1,2,3,4,6-penta-O-galloyl-β-D-glucose (PGG) from Curcuma longa L. and elucidated the lifespanextending effect of PGG using Caenorhabditis elegans model system. In the present study, PGG demonstrated potent lifespan extension of worms under normal culture condition. Then, we determined the protective effects of PGG on the stress conditions such as thermal and oxidative stress. In the case of heat stress, PGG-treated worms exhibited enhanced survival rate, compared to control worms. In addition, PGG-fed worms lived longer than control worms under oxidative stress induced by paraquat. To verify the possible mechanism of PGG-mediated increased lifespan and stress resistance of worms, we investigated whether PGG might alter superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities and intracellular ROS levels. Our results showed that PGG was able to elevate SOD activities of worms and reduce intracellular ROS accumulation in a dose-dependent manner.
