Conventional radiotherapy or chemotherapy for the long-term survival of patients with lung cancer is still difficult for treatment in metastatic and advanced tumors. Therefore, the safe and effective approaches to the treatment of lung cancer are needed. In this study, the effect of delivered eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E)-binding protein 1 (4E-BP1) on lung cancer progression was evaluated. Recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV)-M3/4E-BP1 was delivered into 6-week-old K-ras<SUP>LA1</SUP> lung cancer model mice through a nose-only inhalation system twice a week for 4 weeks. Long-term repeated delivery of 4E-BP1 effectively reduced tumor progression in the lungs of K-ras<SUP>LA1</SUP> mice. Reduction of eIF4E by overexpression of 4E-BP1 resulted in suppression of cap-dependent protein expression of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF or FGF-2) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). In addition, delivered 4E-BP1 inhibited the proliferation of lung cancer cells in K-ras<SUP>LA1</SUP> mice model. Our results suggest that long-term repeated viral delivery of 4E-BP1 may provide a useful tool for designing lung cancer treatment.
Solubility of oxcarbazepine in eight solvents within the temperature range T=(288.15-308.15)K

In this study, the solubility of oxcarbazepine in pure methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, 2-propanol, 1-butanol, acetone, acetonitrile, and tetrahydrofuran was analysed across the temperature range of 288.15-308.15K under atmospheric pressure by using a solid-liquid equilibrium method. The experimental values obtained data were correlated using the modified Apelblat model at each temperature. The mole fraction solubility of oxcarbazepine in all eight pure solvents increased gradually in a temperature-dependent manner. The highest mole fraction solubility of 3.08x10<SUP>-3</SUP> at 308.15K was observed for tetrahydrofuran, followed by acetone (1.82x10<SUP>-3</SUP> at 308.15K), acetonitrile (1.22x10<SUP>-3</SUP> at 308.15K), methanol (1.11x10<SUP>-3</SUP> at 308.15K), ethanol (6.17x10<SUP>-4</SUP> at 308.15K), 1-butanol (6.17x10<SUP>-4</SUP> at 308.15K), 1-propanol (6.16x10<SUP>-4</SUP> at 308.15K), and 2-propanol (4.13x10<SUP>-4</SUP> at 308.15K). The experimental solubility in all solvents correlated well with that calculated using the modified Apelblat equation across the temperature range of (288.15-308.15)K. Therefore, the experimental solubility and correlation equations established in this study could be useful during the crystallization/purification, pre-formulation, and formulation stages of oxcarbazepine production in laboratories and related industries.

<P>Summary</P><P>Background</P><P>The hyper-sensitivity reaction of IgE, with its high-affinity receptors (FcϵRI), is central to the phenomenon of atopic diseases.</P><P>Objective</P><P>To evaluate the genetic effects of non-synonymous single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of FcϵRI on intermediate phenotypes of asthma, i.e. atopy and airway hyper-responsiveness (AHR), in the Korean general population.</P><P>Subjects and methods</P><P>Atopy and AHR were evaluated in a cohort of 2055 subjects, aged 10–18 years, using skin prick tests (SPTs) for common aeroallergens and total serum IgE and methacholine bronchial provocation tests. All FcϵRI-α, FcϵRI-β, and FcϵRI-γ gene exons of 24 healthy subjects were sequenced to locate informative non-synonymous SNPs (minor allele frequency >2%). Informative SNPs were then scored, using the high-throughput single base extension method. Relative risk (RR) was determined by multiple logistic regression analysis, after adjusting for confounding factors. The functional relevance of non-synonymous SNPs was analysed using the sorting intolerant from tolerant (SIFT) program.</P><P>Results</P><P>The SNP search found only one informative non-synonymous SNP in FcϵRI-β: E237G (minor allele frequency=0.21). The positive rate of AHR was lower among subjects with the 237<SUP>*</SUP>E allele than among those with 237<SUP>*</SUP>G [RR (95% confidence interval)=0.41 (0.19–0.89); <I>P</I>=0.01]. However, the E237G substitution was not associated with either a positive SPT response or total serum IgE levels. Sequence evolution analysis predicted that the E237G variation is an intolerant amino acid substitution, with functional importance.</P><P>Conclusion</P><P>In the Korean general population, AHR is significantly associated with the E237G polymorphism of FcϵRI-β, which results in an intolerant amino acid substitution.</P>

Recently, it is developed a variety of electrical contacts on the switch. The contacts will be processed for 2.30 of embossing type as a three-cladding material (Ag-Cu-Fe) used. Embossing type of electrical contacts are working to increase the hardness without plate thickness of the material and local plastic deformation of the shape in process. In this study, we are made of contact in total of 5 spot embossing and measured outside diameter, depth in jig pin by using microscope, respectively. We were found that the important of height, outside diameter of embossing because of spot process for joined bimetal and contact in processing of manufacture thermostat. The pin was formed by the processing for HSS material by E.D.M (electrical discharge machine)
Optical Characterization of Self-Organized InAs Quantum Dots Grown by Molecular Beam Epitaxy

We present experimental results concerning optical characterizations in self-organized InAs/GaAs quantum dot (QD) structures grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The luminescence measurements are performed in a closed cycle refrigerator in a temperature range of 17 to 280 K. The redshifts for the luminescence emission from the QDs occurs concurrently with narrowing of the full width at half maximum (FWHM) as a result of thermal perturbation. The existence of the QD luminescence signal at room temperature indicates an evidence for QD formation by lateral confinement. Furthermore, QDs grown on GaAs (311)A substrate exhibit a smaller FWHM than those on GaAs (100) substrate.

This study was conducted to determine the influence of seeding date on growth, characteristic yield and chemical composition of Cassia mimosoides var. nomame from March 11, 1998 to December 1998 in Cheju Province. Days to flowering were lessened as seeding date was delayed. The plant height of Cassia mimosoides var. nomame was the longest when seeded on 31 March(99㎝) than at the other seeding date. When seeded before 31 March, stem diameter, number of leaves increased as seeding date was late, while number of branches remained constant. And numbers of withering leaves were increased as seeding date was earlier. Fresh forage yield per ha, for Cassia mimosoides var. nomame was the greatest (46.60MT) at 31 March seeding, the second was 43.97 MT at 10 April seeding and the reduced the 34.73MT at 11 March seeding. Also dry matter yield, crude protein yield and total digestible nutrient(TDN) yield per ha was nearly the same tendency. Crude protein, crude fat percent were the greatest at 31 March seeding and than decreased with further increased at seeding date. Crude ash and crude fiber percent tended to decrease as seeding date was delayed. Nitrogen free extract (NFE) and TDN percent tended to increase as seeding date was delayed.
Deep level states and negative photoconductivity in n-ZnO/p-Si hetero-junction diodes

Negative photoconductivity (NPC) was observed in n-ZnO/p-Si heterojunction diode grown by ultra-high vacuum sputtering method under nitrogen ambient. Under the illumination of ultra-violet light, positive photoconductivity was observed at low bias voltages, whereas NPC was observed at high bias voltages. The defect states in the ZnO layers grown on Si were analyzed by photoluminescence and deep level transient spectroscopy measurements. Two deep levels were measured at E<SUB>c</SUB>-0.51 eV and E<SUB>c</SUB>-0.54 eV, which might be originated from oxygen vacancy and nitrogen atom related defects, respectively. Based on the simulation of band diagram, the defect states were located below Fermi level at zero bias voltage. However, as increasing the bias voltages, NPC was observed due to the increase of empty defect states. This analysis allowed us to consider the possibility that the NPC phenomenon in n-ZnO/p-Si heterojunction diode is originated dominantly from the defect states as a carrier recombination center in ZnO layer.
