The optical properties of multilayered porous-Si formed by using electrochemical anodization with a current pulse modulation method were investigated. The photoluminescence intensity was observed to increase dramatically and to be slightly blue-shifted with increasing the period of the porous multilayer. The improvement in the photoluminescence property for multi-stacked porous-Si layers might be attributed to an enhancement of the overall size-effect resulting from the insertion of an interlayer with a high porosity between sandwiched layers with low porosity because these multi-stacked porous-Si layers might provide many luminescence centers in the vertical direction as well as the lateral direction. From the photoluminescence and optical ransmittance results for thermally treated porous-Si multilayers, the luminescence from multilayered porous Si is thought to originate from nanocrystallites structured with Si-H and SiH2 rather than from interface traps between porous-Si and SiOx.

Esophageal leiomyoma derived from the muscularis mucosae (MM) is a rare condition, and the optimal modality for diagnosis and treatment is controversial. Endoscopic ultrasonography can provide an accurate image of esophageal layer structure, providing information on lesion suitability for potential endoscopic therapy. We attempted to investigate the diagnostic value of a transendoscopic balloon-tipped miniature ultrasonic endoprobe for small esophageal leiomyomas derived from MM. We resected 7 small esophageal leiomyomas derived from MM by endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), all of which were diagnosed by a balloon-tipped endoprobe. The endosonographic and pathologic features of 7 cases of small esophageal leiomyomas derived from MM were compared. The balloon-tipped endoprobe clearly showed all 7 small esophageal leiomyomas derived from MM, even those under 5mm in size (smallest lesion, 3.0mm). The endosonographic characteristics of small esophageal leiomyomas derived from MM were a hypoechoic mass with smooth, regular, and a well-defined outer margin and homogenous inner echogram arising from the second hypoechoic layer. Complete resections were possible in all 7 cases by EMR without any complications. Tumor size was 3.0-13.5mm (mean 7.8mm) in maximum diameter. In all cases, endosonographic findings by endoprobe were exactly concordant with pathologic finding in determining the tumors depth in the esophageal wall, tissue origin and characteristics, growth pattern, and size. We detail the balloon-tipped endoprobe is a simple, convenient, and very useful in making accurate diagnosis of small esophageal leiomyomas derived from the MM and the appropriate applications of EMR.

The correlation of electrical properties with magnetic properties for the (Ga1xMn x)As epilayer was investigated. For electrical trans-port measurements, it was clearly observed that the electrical mobility is increased with decreasing temperatures for both the (Ga0.974-Mn 0.026)As/LT-GaAs epilayer and the LT-GaAs:Be epilayer. However, a dierent behavior was observed at the cryogenic temperatureregion. The electrical mobility of (Ga0.974Mn 0.026)As/LT-GaAs epilayer increases with decreasing temperature, while the mobility of LT-0.974Mn 0.026)As/LT-GaAsepilayer, the critical point is observed at 69 K, and this value is almost the same as theTC. This result indicates that the carrier transportin ferromagnetic (Ga1. xMn x)As epilayers might be related to a spin-ordering eect because the spins will be arranged with the samedirection below theTCdrop below theTC in the temperature-dependent resistivity curve is expected to be a result of the spin-ordering eect in the ferromagnetic(Ga0.974Mn 0.026)As/LT-GaAs epilayer.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the distribution of stress in the root end resected teeth. The finite element method was used to compare stresses along the root and retrograde filling material in seven two-dimensional models of mandibular 2nd premolar. Each model was endodontic treatment and gold crown restoration. Each model divided with amagam corerestoration or gold casting post restoration. Thus each model divided with shape of root end resection, depth of retropreparation and exposure length of root in the bony cavity. The seven models were classified as in the table 1 below. ◁표참조▷ A load of 500N was applied 45°diagonally on the lingual slope of the buccal cusp. These models were analyzed with two dimensional finite element methods. The results of this study were as follows : 1. The maximum tensile stress along the inner canal wall was shown on the model 7. 2. When the model 1 was compared with the model 5, the maximum tensile stress along the inner canal wall showed the model 1. 3. Less equivalent stress was shown on the model 6 and more equivalent stress was shown on the model 4. 4. More shear stress was shown on the retrograde filling material of the model 7. 5. The models with increased length of exposed root in the bony cavity demonstrated a gradual increase to the tensile stress in X direction which occurred approximately a boundary between the bone and exposed root in the bony cavity. 6. The model which had a case of matching the apex of post and a boundary between the bone and exposed root in the bony cavity demonstrated more increase tensile stress in X direction than other models.
