        Feasibility and Validity of the Daily Physical Pain Intensity (DPPI) Scale for Pain Assessment

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was the examination of the correlations between the daily physical pain intensity (DPPI) scale and the numeric rating scale (NRS), and between the DPPI scale and the quality of life (QOL) of short form health survey (SF-36) and beck depression inventory (BDI) questionnaires. The focus of the DPPI scale was the daily-living activities of the individual, and the scale contains three items regarding the pain per movement range, the pain per day, and the pain when touching the pain area. Methods: A total of 241 adults answered the DPPI, NRS, SF-36, and BDI questionnaires. Pearson’s correlation coefficients were calculated for the various relations of the DPPI to the other scales. Results: High correlations were shown between the NRS and the DPPI (r=0.809, p<0.05). The DPPI scale (r=0.437, p<0.05) showed “moderate” significant correlations with the SF-36 and the NRS (r=0.370, p<0.05), and it showed “weak” significant correlations with the SF-36. There are no statistically significant correlations between the DPPI, the NRS score, and the BDI score (p>0.05). Conclusion: This study was the first attempt to establish the concurrent validity of a new focus on daily-living activities for the assessment of pain. This study showed promise for the development of activities of daily living focused tool for an assessment of the subjective pain in patients that was more objective.

        뇌성마비 소아에 대한 중추신경계재활치료 및 피내침 병용치료에 관한 연구 - 기능성 적외선 분광법(fNIRS)를 이용한 예비 연구 -

        Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate differences in brain activities when Neurodevelopmental treatment (NDT) is used alone compare to NDT is combined with intradermal acupuncture (IDA) treatment, using functional infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) Methods: Three children less than 7 year-old with cerebral palsy were participated. On their first visit, only NDT was used. After a week, they were treated with both NDT and IDA. During the treatment, fNIRS was used to measure any changes in their brain activities. Results: In first patient with NDT, oxyhemoglobin level was increased during Standing exercise and Gait training compared to resting state. When the patient was treated with NDT and IDA, oxyhemoglobin level was decreased during Standing exercise and Gait training compared to resting state, and the result was significant (p<0.05). In second patient, oxyhemoglobin level was decreased in Gait training compared to resting state when NDT was used, but the level was increased when NDT and IDA were used in Gait training compared to resting state (p<0.05). In third patient, the difference in oxyhemoglobin levels between Gait training and resting state was significant (p<0.05). Conclusions: Treatment involving both NDT and IDA has more potential to improve brain activities compared to that of NDT alone, and no adverse effect was reported. In order to confirm the finding, larger scale randomized controlled trials are needed.

        의료기기 안전성 정보 모니터링에 대한 한병병원 및 병원 종사자의 인지도 조사연구

        Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find out the cognizance of medical device safety information (MDSI) monitoring in the hospital and oriental hospital workers, and the different aspect of MDSI between oriental medical devices and medical devices. Methods: The survey was performed both in the oriental medicine hospital and general hospital. The survey had 16 items; 2 items basic questions, 5 items in the awareness of MDSI, 5 items in the education of MDSI, 4 items in the necessity of defining oriental medical devices and differences between general and oriental medical devices. A total of 120 hospital worker were participated; 60 oriental medicine hospital workers and 60 general hospital workers. They had worked in the oriental medicine or general hospital associated with 'Medical Device Safety Monitoring Center, Dongguk University Ilsan Hospital' in 2019 and 2020. Results: The cognizance of MDSI was high both in oriental medicine hospital and general hospital workers and there were no significant differences between oriental medicine and general hospital workers. When we divided the hospital workers into the senior workers who had worked for over 3 years and junior workers for less than 3 years, the senior workers had higher awareness of MDSI than junior workers. However, the cognizance of education of MDSI was high which was not different between senior and junior workers. Both hospital workers thought that it was necessary to define oriental medicine device legally and the oriental medical device might have low risk and less side effect than medical device. Conclusion: The cognizance of MDSI was high and there was no significant differences between oriental medicine and general hospital workers. Because the senior hospital workers had higher recognition of MDSI, we need to provide the continuous education program for junior hospital workers. Although oriental medical device are thought to be safer than medical device, we need to have a legal definition.

        젊은 성인의 근 피로가 발생된 무릎관절 폄근에 냉 찜질과 온 찜질의 적용이 균형, 고유수용성감각 및 근력에 미치는 영향

        PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of ice and hot packs on proprioception, balance, and muscle strength in knee extensor muscle fatigue. METHODS: A total of 31 male and female students in their twenties from a university in A, Chungnam, Korea, were selected as participants. Three experiments were conducted to assess static balance, dynamic balance, proprioception, and muscle strength before and after induction of muscle fatigue, and following intervention. RESULTS: In the case of stability typical (ST), a significant difference was observed in pillow with eye open (PO) when a Hot pack was applied (p < .05). The weight distribution index (WDI), showed significant differences in normal eye open (NO) and Normal eye closed (NC) tests when ice packs and hot packs were applied (p < .05). In the dynamic balance assessment using Y-balance, significant differences were observed in all values except for pre- and post-intervention in the medial and lateral directions (p < .05). The recovery of proprioceptive sensation showed a significant difference when ice packs were applied (p < .05). In muscle strength, significant differences were observed in all comparisons between measurement time points (p < .05). CONCLUSION: Rest was most effective for static balance, and cold and warm compresses were most effective in recovering dynamic balance. For proprioception, cold compresses were most effective. Muscle strength had a positive effect on recovery in all three intervention methods. These results show that cold and warm compresses can be useful in the recovery of various functions related to muscle fatigue.

        교대 콧구멍 호흡 운동이 심박수 및 혈압에 미치는 영향; 체계적 문헌 고찰 및 메타분석

        Purpose: This is a meta-analysis study that conducted qualitative and quantitative analyses to determine the effects of alternate nostril breathing(ANB) on pulse and blood pressure. Methods: This study was a meta-analysis following the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis(PRISMA). Studies from the last 10 years from June 2023 were collected from four international electronic databases. Qualitative assessments were conducted using the risk-bias-tool from the cochrane library. Revman 5.4 was used for statistics and pooled using a random effect model. Results: A total of four studies were selected, and 310 subjects were evaluated. The analysis showed a significant difference in pulse(SMD=-0.84; 95% CI=-1.44 to -0.24; heterogeneity (χ2=37.48, df=4, I2=89%); overall effect (Z=2.73)). Systolic blood pressure showed a significant difference (SMD=-0.79; 95% CI=-1.35 to -0.23; heterogeneity (χ2=63.07, df=6, I2=90%); overall effect (Z=2.75)). Diastolic blood pressure showed a significant difference (SMD=-0.54; 95% CI=-1.07 to -0.00; heterogeneity (χ2=58.59, df=6, I2=90%); overall effect (Z=1.97)). Conclusion: ANB exercise reduces pulse and blood pressure, making it an effective adjunctive therapy alongside routine conventional care and treatment for hypertension.

        베개 높이에 따른 SCM과 Upper trapezius의 근 두께, 근 긴장도, 근 활성화 측정비교

        PURPOSE: The study aimed to analyze the effect of pillow height on upper trapezius and sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle activity and overall human body comfort to determine the optimal pillow height. METHODS: The study included 32 healthy college students, of both genders, who provided prior consent. It examined three pillow heights (flat, 6cm, 12cm) and measured the upper trapezius and SCM muscles using ultrasonography, myotone, and electromyography(EMG). Muscle activation, thickness, and fatigue were assessed. RESULTS: The study found significant differences in muscle thickness and muscle tone based on the pillow heights (flat, 6cm, and 12cm) with a p < .05. The SCM and upper trapezius muscles were thinnest at a pillow height of 6cm. Muscle tone in the SCM was lower at both 6cm and 12cm pillow heights. Post-hoc measurements showed significant differences in both the SCM and upper trapezius muscles thickness at the 6cm pillow height (p < .05). Also, significant differences in muscle tone were observed only in the SCM, particularly between the 6cm and 12cm pillow heights. CONCLUSION: The ultrasonography and myotone measurements showed a significant difference in muscle thickness and muscle tension, both of which were above 6cm, while there was no difference in muscle activation. Based on the strong correlation between muscle tension and muscle thickness with pillow height, this study concluded that the human body feels comfortable with a 6cm pillow height. Therefore, it is recommended to use a pillow height of 6cm when lying in a supine position.
