        The Impact of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Outbreak on Trends in Emergency Department Utilization Patterns

        Changes occurred in the patterns of utilization of emergency medical services during the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) outbreak. The purpose of this study was to analyze the patterns of adult and pediatric patients who visited the emergency department (ED) during the outbreak. This retrospective study was conducted by analyzing changes in the patterns of visits among adult and pediatric patients in the ED at one tertiary teaching hospital in Korea. The study was performed from June 1, 2013 to July 31, 2015. The MERS outbreak period was from June 1 to July 31, 2015, and we compared that period to the same periods in 2013 and 2014. We compared and analyzed the patients' characteristics, emergency severity index (ESI) level at the visit, cause of visit, diagnosis, final dispositions, injury/non-injury, length of stay at the ED (EDLOS), and hospitalization rate. A total of 9,107 patients visited the ED during this period. Of these patients, 2,572 (28.2%) were pediatric patients and 6,535 (71.8%) were adult patients. The most common cause of an ED visit was fever (adult patients: 21.6%, pediatric patients: 56.2%). The proportion of non-urgent visits involving an ESI level of 4 or 5 and the EDLOS decreased significantly in pediatric and adult patients in comparison to that during the past two years. This change was significant in pediatric patients. Among adult patients, the rate of injury decreased, whereas it increased among pediatric patients. During the MERS outbreak period, pediatric ED visits due to non-urgent cases decreased significantly and there were more pronounced differences in ED utilization patterns in pediatric patients than in adult patients.

        지역생활협동조합의 동원과 성장: 대전의 한밭생협 사례를 중심으로

        For the past 25 years, Hanbat Co-Op has secured the operating resources through themicro-mobilization and meso-mobilization. In the process of establishing co-op, themicro-mobilization was facilitated as the core route of the resource mobilization. From themid- to later part of 1980s, Daejeon Housewife Academy and House of Sallim (살림의집) that are active for local women generated the micro-mobilization context required toestablish co-op. However, the micro-mobilization based on the small group setting wasunable to resolve the issues of management and financial stabilization as the core issues ofHanbat Co-Op due to the limitation of resources available to mobilize. This type of issueswas resolved with Hanbat Co-Op participating in 21C Co-Op Solidarity, the solidarityorganization of local co-ops. Namely, the meso-mobilization through the solidarityorganization enables the mobilization with specialization and property resources unable tomobilize with the micro-mobilization, and it undertakes the critical role to stabilize theorganization. With the Candle Light Rally for Mad Cow Meat (Bovine spongiformencephalopathy: BSE) in 2008 and the increase of desire for citizens on safe food have grownco-ops as well as enticing the profit-oriented enterprises to advance to the environment-friendly agricultural markets. In other word, co-ops are exposed to new marketenvironment competing with profit-oriented enterprises. As Hanbat Co-Op has theresources taken in through the meso-mobilization of important role for stabilizing formanagement and finance, Hanbat Co-Op responded to the market env ironment changingto meet the strategy of co-op solidarity level. In particular, the independent branddevelopment and opening of off-line stores undertaken for the solidarity level has establishedthe foundation for increasing the sales revenue for Hanbat Co-Op as well as the new basisto publicize the utility of co-op in the local community. 지난 27년 동안 한밭생협은 미시동원과 중위동원을 통해 필요한 운동자원을 확보해왔다. 생협의 창립과정에서는 미시동원이 자원동원의 핵심 통로로활용되었다. 80년대 중후반부터 지역여성들을 상대로 활동해 온 대전주부아카데미와 살림의 집이 생협 창립에 필요한 미시동원맥락을 창출했다. 하지만소집단 상황에 기초한 미시동원은 동원할 수 있는 운동자원의 한계로 인해 당시 한밭생협의 핵심 문제였던 경영 및 재정안정화 문제를 해결할 수 없었다. 이러한 문제는 한밭생협이 지역생협들의 연대조직체인 21세기생협연대에 참여하면서 해소되었다. 즉 연대조직을 통한 중위동원은 미시동원으로는 동원할 수 없는 물적 자원과 전문성의 동원을 가능하게 했으며, 이는 조직을 안정화하는데 결정적인 역할을 했다. 2008년 광우병 쇠고기 촛불집회와 안전한 식품에 대한 시민들의 욕구 상승은 생협을 성장시켰을 뿐만 아니라 영리기업들의친환경농산물 시장 진출을 유도했다. 즉 생협은 영리기업과 경쟁하는 새로운시장환경에 노출되었다. 한밭생협 초기, 경영과 재정을 안정화하는데 중위동원을 통해 유입된 자원이 주요한 역할을 했듯이, 한밭생협은 생협연대 차원의전략에 맞춰 변화된 시장환경에 대응했다. 특히 연대차원에서 추진한 독자 브랜드 개발, 오프라인 매장 개설은 한밭생협의 매출액 증대뿐만 아니라 지역사회에서 생협의 이용을 대중화하는 새로운 계기를 만들어 주었다.

        Comparison of residual strength-grounding damage index diagrams for tankers produced by the ALPS/HULL ISFEM and design formula method

        This study compares the Residual ultimate longitudinal strength – grounding Damage index (R-D) diagrams produced by two analysis methods: the ALPS/HULL Intelligent Supersize Finite Element Method (ISFEM) and the design formula (modified Paik and Mansour) method – used to assess the safety of damaged ships. The comparison includes four types of double-hull oil tankers: Panamax, Aframax, Suezmax and VLCC. The R-D diagrams were calculated for a series of 50 grounding scenarios. The diagrams were efficiently sampled using the Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) technique and comprehensively analysed based on ship size. Finally, the two methods were compared by statistically analysing the differences between their grounding damage indices and ultimate longitudinal strength predictions. The findings provide a useful example of how to apply the ultimate longitudinal strength analysis method to grounded ships.

        Effect of corrosion on the ultimate strength of double hull oil tankers – Part II: hull girders

        Numerous oil tanker losses have been reported and one of the possible causes of such casualties is caused by the structural failure of aging ship hulls in rough weather. In aging ships, corrosion and fatigue cracks are the two most important factors affecting structural safety and integrity. This research is about effect on hull girder ultimate strength behavior of double hull oil tanker according to corrosion after Part I: stiffened panel. Based on corrosion data of Part I (time-dependent corrosion wastage model and CSR corrosion model), when progressing corrosion of fourtypes of double hull oil tankers (VLCC, Suezmax, Aframax, and Panamax), the ultimate strength behavior of hull girder is compared and analyzed. In case of the ultimate strength behavior of hull girder, when occurring corrosion, the result under vertical and horizontal bending moment is analyzed. The effect of time-dependent corrosion wastage on the ultimate hull girder strength as well as the area, section modulus, and moment of inertia are also studied. The result of this research will be useful data to evaluate ultimate hull girder strength of corroded double hull oil tanker.

        Statistical and Empirical Determination of the Optimal Sampling Method for Detecting Non-homogeneously Mixed Living Modified Organisms (LMO) Seeds

        The seeds of unapproved living modified organism (LMO) have caused environmental problems; therefore, there has been emphasis on intensive quarantine before complete seed import. For developing a proper sampling method, statistical analysis has been applied, but the current methods generally assume a homogeneous seed mixture and none of the studies have investigated a sampling method for the non-homogeneous case. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine an optimal sampling method applicable for an inhomogeneous mixture of LMO and normal seeds. By using both statistical and empirical approaches, we demonstrated that sampling on stratified and systemically compartmentalized positions with a unit size was the best option for the inhomogeneous case. Our results are expected to aid in developing a sampling strategy for practical use in quarantine agency.

        The electrical properties of Maleate copolymer (C_(18)MA-VE_(2)) and Itaconate copolymer (C_(18)ITA-VE_(2)) Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films for in-plane were investigated to develop the gas sensor. The C_(18)MA-VE_(2) and C_(18)ITA-VE_(2) were used as sensitive materials and deposition on the slide-glass substrate using LB method which could control the thickness in the molecular order (Å). The current-voltage (I-V) characteristics were measured to investigated the response characteristics in chloroform, acetone, ethanol and methanol gases. The conductivity of sensitive films were 10^(-)7[S/cm] for an in-plane. The change of conductivity was occurred by behavior of organic gases, which mean that the behavior of organic gases could be analyzed using conductivity change and application to gas sensor. In the experimental results, the relation between sensitive films and organic gases could be divided by three-type. Thus, we could analyze the modeling of the response characteristics of organic gases using the conductivity change of sensitive films.
