        The present study was aimed to investigate the effects of latency period on alveolar ridge distraction using the intraoral distraction device. Nine adult mongrel dogs of either sex, weighing about 15 kg, were used. They were divided into 3-day, 5-day, and 7-day groups according to the latency period. The left upper and lower premolars and first molars were extracted. Twelve weeks after the extraction, an osteotomy was performed and the distraction device was applied. After the latency period, the distraction was applied at a rate of 1.2mm for 8 days. The distraction device was left in place for 2 weeks to allow consolidation and was then removed. The animals were sacrified at 8 weeks after completion of distraction and were examined macroscopically, radiographically, and histologically. After completion of the distraction, the alveolar crest protruded prominently, showing the vertical augmentation of the alveolar bone. Soft tissues were broken down after the 6th day of distraction in 3-day latency group, and premature union occurred on the 7th day of distraction in the 7-day latency group. The average distance was 9.40±0.3mm in 3-day latency group, 9.35±0.1mm in 5-day latency group, and 8.85±0.1mm in 7-day latency group. In the radiograph taken at 8 weeks after distraction, there was slight bone resorption around the medial and distal edges of the alveolar bone segment, and a new bone deposition was observed in the neighboring alveolar crest area in all groups. Fibrous tissues were present in a part of the buccal cortical bone area of the distraction gap, and the woven and lamellar bones were observed in the distracted gap. There were bony bridges in the distraction gap in all animals examined. These results suggest that optimal time of latency period on alveolar ridge distraction using the intraoral distraction device is about 5 days in dogs, and about 7days in human beings.

      • 흰쥐 악하선에서 배설관 폐쇄에 따른 나트륨 운반체 발현의 변화 : Ligated Submandibular Gland in Rats

        Although acinar atrophy frequently occurs and the salivary secretory activity is significantly decreased in various salivary glandular diseases, their underlying molecular mechanisms have not been established. The present study was aimed to increase our understanding of functional alterations associated with pathological acinar atrophy. Male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 180-200g were used. Their left submandibular ducts were ligated for 1 week, and the expression of sodium transporters related to the salivary formation was determined in the gland. The ligated gland was significantly decreased in its weight. The expressions of α_(1) and β_(1) subunits of Na, K-pump determined by Western blot analysis were increased in the experimental group. Accordingly, the catalytic activity of Na, K-pump was increased. The expressions of α, β, and γ subunits of BNaC were increased. The expression of TSC was also increased. The mRNA expression of mineralocorticoid receptor determined by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction was decreased in the experimental group. These results suggest that the changes in sodium transporters are causally related with an increased intraluminal pressure in the salivary duct in the ligated gland.

        국내 유색미 품종의 항산화 성분 및 활성 비교

        본 연구는 유색미의 기능성 식품소재로의 이용성 증진을 위해, 국내에서 육성된 유색미 8품종(흑미 5개, 적미 2개, 녹미 1개)의 항산화 성분(총 폴리페놀, 총 플라보노이드, 안토시아닌, 프로안토시아니딘) 및 항산화 활성(ABTS 및 DPPH 라디칼 소거능)을 분석하여 품종 간 특성을 비교하였다. 이 중에서 흑미인 흑진미 품종이 항산화 3개 성분(총 폴리페놀, 총 플라보노이드, 프로안토시아니딘) 및 2개 활성 모두 가장 높았다. 일반적으로 프로안토시아니딘 함량은 적미가 흑미보다 높다고 알려져 있으나, 본 연구에서는 흑미인 흑진미품종이 가장 높았다. 안토시아닌 함량은 조생흑찰 품종이 가장 높았고(2.24 mg/g), 적미와 녹미에서는 검출되지 않았다. 항산화 3개 성분(총 폴리페놀, 총 플라보노이드, 안토시 아닌 함량)과 항산화 2개 활성 간에 모두 유의한 상관을 보였으나, 프로안토시아니딘 함량과는 상관의 유의성이 없었다. 이러한 결과는 국내 육성 유색미의 천연 기능성 식품소재로의 이용성 확대를 위한 고부가가치의 기능성 식품소재의 기초자료로써 활용이 가능할 것으로 판단된다. This study compared the antioxidant components and activities of eight Korean colored rice cultivars (five black, two red, and one green rice cultivar) to enhance their usability by analyzing their total phenolics, flavonoids, anthocyanins and proanthocyanidin contents, and the antioxidant activities using ABTS and DPPH radical. Among them, the black rice cultivar “Heugjinmi” contained the highest levels of three antioxidant components and two antioxidant activities. Generally, red rice is known to have a higher proanthocyanidin content than black rice, but Heugjinmi showed the highest content (2.29 mg/g). Cyanidin-3-glucoside and peonidin-3-glucoside were observed in black rice, and the highest anthocyanin content was observed in the Josaengheugchal cultivar (2.24 mg/g). On the other hand, anthocyanin was not detected in the red and green rice cultivars. The three antioxidant components (polyphenol, flavonoid, and proanthocyanidin) showed significant correlations with the two antioxidant activities, but no significant correlation was observed between the proanthocyanidin and antioxidant activities. These results provide valuable information for using Korean colored rice cultivar as a functional food materials.
