A Consideration of Binding Phenomena in English. This paper aims to examine how binding theories developed and how they can be explained in the generative transformational framework and give help in English grammar education related to binding phenomena in English. The Binding Theory is concerned with coreference between two elements in a sentence. Since Chomsky proposed the Binding Theory in his "Lectures on Government and Binding" by trying to incorporate the Tensed-S Condition and Specified Subject Condition into a concept of Governing Category, there have been various discussions and alternatives. The binding theories investigated here are those proposed by Chomsky (1981, 1986), Huang (1983), and those in the minimalist framework of Chomsky (1993, 1995).
임상연구 : 제왕절개술환자에서 호기말 Sevoflurane 농도를 1%로 유지 시 수술전 분만통 유무에 따른 이중분광계수의 비교

Background: An end-tidal concentration of 1% sevoflurane with 50% nitrous oxide (N2O) during a Cesarean section resulted in bispectral index (BIS) values > 60, which are considered at risk for awareness. The present study aimed to determine whether the presence or absence of labor pain prior to the Cesarean section would affect the BIS value. Methods: Sixty women scheduled to undergo Cesarean section under general anesthesia, were allocated to three groups of 20 patients: women undergoing elective surgery without labor pain (group 1, control), or emergency surgery without (group 2) or with (group 3) active labor pain. After endotracheal intubation, anesthesia was maintained with end-tidal 1% sevoflurane and 50% N2O in oxygen throughout the surgery. The BIS value, systolic blood pressure and heart rate were measured before (baseline) and during the induction of anesthesia, intubation, skin incision, uterine incision, delivery and at 1, 3, 5 and 10 min after delivery. Neonatal effects were assessed using Apgar scores at 1 and 5 min after delivery. Results: BIS values were significantly lower in group 3 than in groups 1 and 2 throughout the study, except at baseline and induction (P < 0.05). However, the systolic blood pressure, heart rate and Apgar scores did not differ among the three groups. Conclusions: These results demonstrate that 1.0% sevoflurane combined with 50% N2O results in BIS values < 60 during Cesarean delivery in women with active labor pain but not in those without active labor pain, consistent with an adequate depth of anesthesia to prevent recall. A Petri-Dish with Micromolded Pattern as a Coordinate Indicator for Live-Cell Time Lapse Microscopy
윤경원,박도현,강명우,송지영,정유진,방현우,전누리 한국바이오칩학회 2022 BioChip Journal Vol.16 No.1
Determining the position of cells in a microscope image is essential in investigating cell behaviors such as migration and differentiation. When observing cells over a time period over many ROIs (region of interests), it is difficult to reposition the sample and find the same cell once the FOV (field of view) is changed. This study describes a novel approach to obtain accurate position data in live-cell time-lapse imaging and large-area stitched images using a Petri-dish with embedded microstructures and a simple microscope. We integrated a braille-like pattern underneath the Petri-dish, a coordinate indicator for microscope image registration to simplify imaging of multiple ROIs at different time points without expensive equipment such as motorized stages or enclosed cell culture incubators. In this study, we micromolded microscopic structures with sizes between 5–10 μm spaced closely (~ 40 μm) in non-repeating pattern underneath the petri-dish. Image processing technique was used to determine the position and rotation of the petri-dish with respect to the microscope FOV. Using this methods, we demonstrated successful imaging of time-lapse images for cell differentiation and migration. Large area patterned cell cultures were imaged over several days and the images were stitched without a motorized microscope.
PDMS Microchannel Surface Modification with Teflon for Algal Lipid Research
박재우,나상철,강명우,심상준,전누리 한국바이오칩학회 2017 BioChip Journal Vol.11 No.3
This paper presents a simple method for modifying the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microfluidic channels with Teflon for algal lipid research. When culturing and staining algae inside microfluidic devices, the small molecule dyes absorbed by the microchannel surface render it difficult for imaging and quantification. PDMS surface coated with Teflon-AF resists the absorption of hydrophobic dye molecules (i.e., BODIPY and Nile red) as confirmed using fluorescence microscopy. Here, we introduce a surface modification of PDMS microchannel using Teflon-AF using a procedure of filling and drying to directly treat the PDMS surface with perfluorinated materials. This method can be used to prevent the absorption of fluorescent probe and obtain clear fluorescence micrographs without background signal from absorbed dye molecules on PDMS microchannel. We confirmed that contact angle of Teflon-coated PDMS (116.4°) is higher than that of unmodified PDMS (106.1°) and thus more hydrophobic. Furthermore, Teflon-coated PDMS surface had ~80% of oxygen transfer rate compared to that of native PDMS and good transparency in all visible light regions. Based on these characteristics, we successfully validated the visualization and quantification of intracellular lipid droplets in microalgae C. reinhardtii using BODIPY. We believe that our new method will expand microfluidic applications on characterization of biological lipid with fluorescence probes and biochemical markers.
Vol.2011 No.10
An alternative fabrication material for casting molds using soft-lithography is presented. A commercial OHP film is applied as the substrate of photolithography, as a substitute for silicon or glass wafers. Unlike from conventional wafers, OHP film is flexible, easy and safe to handle, additionally the total cost for making SU-8 patterned master on OHP is less than half of conventional photolithography process due to the extremely low cost. Especially, proper feature quality of patterned PR is achieved for the not only the field of microfluidics but also biochips of micron scale. And we developed a film master holder which enhances the convenience for peeling off PDMS replica from film masters and holds the patterned film flat. Due to the high quality patterned features achieved on film masters, it can be the basis for various applications of photolithography. For instance, flexibility makes it possible to fabricate pseudo 3D molds or in-time double side soft-lithography.
