Pain and pain management have long been items of central concern in dentistry. Although they are given little attention in orthodontics, virtually every patient wearing orthodontic appliances experiences and complains of some extent of pain, and someones have suffured from severe throbbing pain. A form of stimulation-produced analgesia, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a non-invasive, non-pharmacologic pain control techiques. The clinical application of TENS to orthodontic patients may lead to better patient compliance. And I want to discuss some basic knowledge of this TENS.
SC 합성 기둥-철골 보 접합부의 내진성능에 관한 실험적 연구

Steel-concrete composite column is a recently developed composite system, in which the two opposite flanges of H-shape section are connected by welded links, and vacant space enclosed by the flanges, web and links is filled with concrete. The purposes of this paper are to suggest efficient moment-connection details for SC composite column system and to verify their seismic performance. Two types of SC composite column-steel beam connections were proposed; one for strong axis of column and the other for weak axis of column. Cyclic loading tests for two full-scaled specimens were performed according to the standard loading history of SAC(2000). Moment-connection detail for strong axis of column showed sufficient seismic performance required for SMRF(special moment resisting frame). However, connection detail for weak axis of column exhibited inferior seismic performance than that for strong axis of column, which satisfied the requirements for OMRF(ordinary moment resisting frame). Additional studies are needed to increase elastic stiffness and seismic performance of connection detail for weak axis of SC composite column.
IMT-2000 위성통신 시스템에서 폐쇄루프 전송 다이버시티 기법의 성능 분석

In this paper, we apply a close loop transmit diversity scheme to IMT-2000 satellite systems, and investigate the performance of the scheme in both ideal and more realistic situations. We verify that the performance of the closed loop transmit diversity scheme is quite sensitive to errors in feedback information. However, we also show that the number of quantization bits for feedback information does not significantly affect the system performance when considering the feedback of phase information only. In addition, 2-bit quantized system achieves the better performance than 4-bit quantized system in terms of slot error rate.
요와 농 검체에서의 Vancomycin 내성 장구균 분리 2예

65세 여자 환자의 요 검체에서 vancomycin 내성 E. faecalis를, 욕창의 농에서 vancomycin 내성 E. faecium을 분리하였는데, 환자의 병력으로 미루어 미국에서 정착된 세균에 의하여 감염되었을 것으로 생각되었다. 분리 균주에 대한 vancomycin의 MIC는 각각 258과 32㎍/mL, teicopoanin은 0.25, 0.5㎍/mL이어서 VanB 표현형으로 추측되었다. 우리 나라에서의 VRE 확산을 예방하기 위한 조치의 일환으로서 의사를 포함한 병원 직원에게 VRE 감염증의 심각성을 홍보하여야 하며, 미생물검사실에서는 임상검체에서 분리된 장구균의 vancomycin 내성을 시험하고 장내 VRE 보균자의 주기적 검색이 필요하다고 사료되었다. Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis and E. faecium were isolated from urine and decubitus ulcer discharge, respectively, from a 65-year-old woman. Proir to the transfer to this hospital in December, 1995, she had been admitted to the Chicago Rehabilitation Center in the U.S. for the treatment of olivopontocerebellar atrophy, quadriplegia, and neurogenic bladder. She was also treated with multiple antimicrobials including vancomycin for pneumonia at intensive care unit, which suggested that she acquired the organisms in the U.S. The minimal inhibitory concentrations of vancomycin and teicoplanin against the isolates were: E. faecalis 256 ㎍/mLand 0.5㎍/mL; E. faecium 32 ㎍/mL and 0.5 ㎍/mL, respectively. The susceptibility patterns suggest the isolates are vanB type. Although other species of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus spp. were reported previously in Korea, these isolates may be the first vancomycin-resistant E. faecalis and E. faecium from clinical specimens.
