        A 11-year-old Yorkshire terrier anesthetized for computed tomography. The dog showed cyanosis and syncope during postanesthetic recovery, therefore drug administrated parenterally. Goose-honking was noticed after full recovery. As a result of survey radiography and fluoroscopy, grade 4 tracheal collapse was diagnosed. Prescription for the dog was oral administration of hydrocodone 0.22 mg/kg. theophylline 20 mg/kg, prednisone 0.5 mg/kg, amoxicillin 22 mg/kg and chlorpheniramine 2 mg/kg twice a day for 3 days. A 10-year-old Pomeranian was diagnosed as grade 2 traceal collapse at the local animal hospital 2 years before being referred to the veterinary teaching hospital of Chungnam National University. On physical examination, goose-honking, coughing and intermittent open-mouth breathing. Tracheal narrowing was observed on survey einradiography and fluoroscopy. Oral administration of theophylline 13 mg/kg, enrofloxacin 5 mg/kg, chlropheniramine 0.5 mg/kg twice a day was prescribed for 2 weeks.

        To join structure together, various methods and processes are available including welding, riveting, bonding with industrial adhesives and fastening by bolts. Analysis of the common areas formed by joining between the structure are significant in that their results can provide critical information for understanding the dynamic behavior of the whole structure. The structural factors affecting the dynamic behavior of the joined structures are usually believed to be materials composing the bolts, bolt sizes and the number of bolts as well as the strength of applied torque and the extent of overlap between the structures joined together. This paper analyzes the impacts of the structural factors such as the bolt sizes, the extent of overlap and the materials composing the structures on the dynamic behavior of the joined structures.

        Abstract - There are various methods to join mechanical structures together. They typically include welding, mechanical joints by bolts and other processes depending on specific needs. Analyses of joints in the mechanical structures are essential in understanding the dynamic characteristics of the structures. In this research an impulse technique is applies to investigate the dynamic behavior of joints produced by bolts. The length of overlap in the joints was varied as the number of the bolts in the joints was changed. Also, the torque applied to the bolts were adjusted. Resonance frequencies were determined for the joints to evaluate the relationship between the increase in the applied torque and the increase in the number of bolts used in the joints. The results have demonstrated that the resonance frequencies of the joints increase with the increasing torque.

        A stress analysis on a strip with a circular hole was carried out by the computer assisted photoelastic experimental method. A stress concentration phenomenon around the hole of a strip under axial loading was carefully investigated through this study. The result shows that it well agrees with the results of finite element method and photoelasticity. We suggest that computer assisted photoelasticity experiment is very efficient method for data analysis compared to conventional experimental stress analysis method.

      • 모바일 사전을 위한 효율적인 선인출 기법

        In the mobile Internet environment, we need to perform frequent accesses between a mobile device and a content server for searching or downloading learning materials. In this paper, we propose an efficient prefetching technique to reduce the network cost and to improve the communication efficiency in the mobile dictionary. Contributions of the paper can be summarized as follows. First, we propose an overall framework for the prefetching-based mobile dictionary. Second, we present a method of determining the amount of prefetching data for each of packet-based and flat-rate billing cases. Third, by focusing on the English-Korean mobile dictionary for middle or high school students, we propose a method of determining the words to be prefetched in advance. Fourth, based on these determination methods, we propose an efficient prefetching algorithm. Fifth, through experiments, we show superiority of our prefetching-based method. Experimental results show that, compared with the traditional on-demand method, our prefetching-based method improves the average performance by 9.8%~19.7% for the packet-based billing and by 19.0%~33.2% for the flat-rate billing. These results indicate that our framework can be widely used not only in the mobile dictionary but also in other mobile Internet applications that require the prefetching technique.

      • 연제련 근로자들의 만성적 연폭로에 관한 연구

        For the purpose of obtaining of effective biological monitoring data, studies to evaluate the health consequences of lead absorption were conducted smelter workers who have been exposed to lead occupationally. The 103 smelter lead workers and the 102 smelter non-lead workers were observed and the questionnaire covered age, work history, symptoms possibly associated with lead poisoning. The biological parameters chosen for this study were as follows; blood lead(PbB), urine lead(PbU), δ-aminolevulinic acid in urine(ALAU), coproporphyrin in urine(CPU), zinc protoporphyrin in whole blood(ZPP), hemoglobin(Hb), δ-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase(ALAD) activity & ALAD activity ratio(A/R; absorbance at substrate pH 6.6/absorbance at substrate pH 5.8). The results obtained were as follows; 1. The average age were 39.1±7.4 years and 39.2±7.7 years in smelter lead workers and smelter non-lead workers, respectively. In smelter lead workers and smelter non-lead workers, the average work duration were 131.7±63.3 months and 138.1±63.1 months, respectively. 2. The mean value of blood lead were 45.0+8.8㎍/100ml and 36.4±6.8㎍/100ml in smelter lead workers and non-lead workers, respectively. In smelter lead workers and non-lead workers, the mean value of zinc protoporphyrin were 89.6+45.1㎍/100ml and 46.5+21.5㎍/100ml, respectively. The mean value of other biological parameters except ALAD & A/R of smelter lead workers were in normal range. 3. Among various pairing of the biological parameters of lead exposure in smelter lead workers and smelter non-lead workers, the correlation between PbB & ZPP showed highest coefficient value. 4. A simple regression analysis was done between PbB and ZPP, and between PbB and CPU, taking PbB as a dependent variable. In smelter lead workers and smelter non-lead workers, coefficients of determination between PbB and ZPP were 67.1% and 59.2%, respectively. Also, the coefficients between PbB and CPU were 45.1% and 26.7%, respectively Consequently, ZPP is better indicator than CPU in estimation PbB levels in screening test of lead absorption. 5. Gastrointestinal compliants were the most frequent self-reporting symptoms. As more frequent are the compliants, the mean concentration levels of PbB and ZPP increased.

      • 열사이클에 의한 세라믹/금속접합의 잔류응력에 관한 연구

        Thermal stresses at ceramic/metal interfaces in ceramic-metal joints are analyzed with emphases on assessing residual stresses produced and retained in the joints during joining processes of ceramics with metals, and evaluating their redistributions under applied thermal cycles. A thermoelastic plastic finite element method is adopted to compute various physical quantities associated with the thermal processes. The computational results demeonstrate that the residual stresses on the ceramic side in the metal-ceramic joints, generally, increase with increasing peak temepratures in the thermal cycles. Also, the higher the peak temperatures are in the thermal cycles, the higher values are obtained for intensities (Q) and coefficients (λ) of stress singularity near the end point along the interface on the ceramic side.

        High-frequency micromechanical resonators from aluminium–carbon nanotube nanolaminates

        At micro- and nanoscales, materials with high Young’s moduli and low densities are of great interest for high-frequency micromechanical resonator devices. Incorporating carbon nanotubes (CNTs), with their unmatched properties, has added functionality to many man-made composites. We report on the fabrication of ≤100-nm-thick laminates by sputter-deposition of aluminium onto a two-dimensional single-walled CNT network. These nanolaminates—composed of Al, its native oxide Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> and CNTs—are fashioned, in a scalable manner, into suspended doubly clamped micromechanical beams. Dynamic flexural measurements show marked increases in resonant frequencies for nanolaminates with Al–CNT laminae. Such increases, further supported by quasi-static flexural measurements, are partly attributable to enhancements in elastic properties arising from the addition of CNTs. As a consequence, these nanolaminate micromechanical resonators show significant suppression of mechanical nonlinearity and enhanced strength, both of which are advantageous for practical applications and analogous to biological nanocomposites, similarly composed of high-aspect-ratio, mechanically superior mineral platelets in a soft protein matrix.

        근 피판술을 이용한 기관흉막루의 치료

        Bronchopleural fistula and chronic empyema are the difficult problems in the thoracic surgery field. We experienced 3 cases of chronic empyema and complicated bronchopleural fistulas treated with muscle flap and concomitant thoracoplasty. The causative primary diseases were pulmonary tuberculosis and bronchiectasis. All the three cases have failed to control the chronic empyema and bronchopleural fistula with conventional method such as closed or open drainage and Eloesser flap after lobectomy. The unresponsive infection on bronchopleural fistula and pleural space was well controlled after muscle flap with thoracoplasty. Complete decortication, closure of bronchopleural fistula as much as possible and coverage of closed fistula with good vascularized tissue are the essential factors for the success of operation on chronic empyema and bronchopleural fistula. The results of operations were satisfactory and the respiratory function was well preserved or improved in one patient. But, the contour of chest wall was deformed in patient with extensive concomitant thoracoplasty.
