It's very important to estimate the amount of residual stresses quantatively since the residual stress causes the degradation of the products in strength and poor products in quality. Present paper discusses the methodology how to estimate residual stresses and investigates the heat treatment effects on residual stresses using the hole drilling method for heat treated and non heat treated mild steel pipes. The results show that the amount of residual stress varies with drilling depth nonuniformly and the designer can more effectivly control the residual stresses by being able to estimate quanatively through the drilling hole method.

The notched charpy and Izod impact test is the most prevalent technique used to characterize the effect of high impulse loads on ploymeric materials. A method of analysis in rubber toughened PVC is suggested to evaluate the critical strain energy release rate Gc from the Charpy and Izod impact energy measurement. Instrumented Charpy impact tester was used to extract ancilliary information concerning fracture properties in addition to total fracture properties and maximum critical load. The stress intensity factor Kd was calculated for the variation of rubber contents from the obtained maximum critical load and toughned effects were investigated.

Proto type vibrating machine was developed for reducing the fat of the human body. By using the commercial FEM package ANSYS and Pro-E, the dynamic model was developed and stress analysis was carried out and structure strength was investigated for structural stability. Finally optimized shape for machine structure was suggested.

Instrumented Charpy impact tester was used to extract ancillary information concerning fracture parameters in addition to total fracture properties and maximum critical load. The dynamic stress intensity factor K_(Id) of Nylon plastic material was calculated for the ASTM charpy specimen from the obtained maximum critical load.

A finite element method was used to calculate the effects of the thickness of silicon nitride on residual stress in a silicon nitride steel joint. The results show that the thicker joints had a low strength due to thermal expansion mismatch. When the silicon nitride was less than 1.2 mm thick, the strength of the joints reached 50 MPa.
