(2011) <I>European Journal of Cancer Care</I><B>20</B>, 803–809</P><P><B>Satisfaction with mammography in the National Cancer Screening Programme participants of age 40s in Korea</B></P><P>The aim of this study was to evaluate satisfaction with the National Cancer Screening Programme of mammography in Korea and to examine the association between subscales of satisfaction and general satisfaction. We conducted a cross‐sectional telephone survey for women who had obtained a National Cancer Screening Programme mammographic screening at general hospitals between May and October 2008. The present study included 2005 women in their forties. We performed multivariate linear regression using dependent variable as general satisfaction and independent variables as subscales of satisfaction, such as pre‐screening information transfer, staff interpersonal skills, physical surroundings and results reporting. Participants were stratified according to the result of their mammogram as negative or positive. Mean score of satisfaction was above 2.5 of 4 for all subscales. Women who received positive results were less satisfied with all of subscale factors. Staff interpersonal skills were the most important factor that contributed to general satisfaction. Future efforts such as staff training programme of communication/attitude skills, ensuring privacy and explanation of possible discomfort of the screening would be needed.</P>

        Overexpression of stathmin1 in the diffuse type of gastric cancer and its roles in proliferation and migration of gastric cancer cells

        <P><B>Background:</B></P><P>Stathmin1 is a microtubule-regulating protein that has an important role in the assembly and disassembly of the mitotic spindle. The roles of stathmin1 in carcinogenesis of various cancers, including prostate and breast cancer, have been explored. However, its expression and roles in gastric cancer have not yet been described.</P><P><B>Methods:</B></P><P>Stathmin1 expression in paraffin-embedded tissue sections from 226 patients was analysed by immunohistochemistry. Roles of stathmin1 were studied using a specific small interfering RNA (siRNA).</P><P><B>Results:</B></P><P>The expression of stathmin1 was positively correlated with lymph node metastasis, TNM stages and vascular invasion, and negatively with recurrence-free survival, in the diffuse type of gastric cancer. The median recurrence-free survival in patients with a negative and positive expression of stathmin1 was 17.0 and 7.0 months, respectively (<I>P</I>=0.009). When the expression of stathmin1 was knocked down using siRNA, the proliferation, migration and invasion of poorly differentiated gastric cancer cells <I>in vitro</I> were significantly inhibited. Moreover, s<I>tathmin1</I> siRNA transfection significantly slowed the growth of xenografts in nude mice.</P><P><B>Conclusion:</B></P><P>These results suggest that stathmin1 can be a good prognostic factor for recurrence-free survival rate and is a therapeutic target in diffuse-type gastric cancer.</P>

      • 棚素施肥水準과 刈取管理가 Alfalfa(Medicago sativa L.)의 生育과 收量및 飼料價値에 미치는 영향

        本 實驗은 硼砂施肥水準과 刈取管理가 알팔파의 生育과 收量 및 飼料價値에 미치는 影響을 糾明하여 실질적인 栽培技術과 利用性提高를 目的으로 硼砂施肥水準(0,15,60Kg/ha)을 主區로 하고 生育段階를 細區로(Bud, 10% bloom, 100% bloom)하여 1989년 3월∼1990년 9월까지 建國大學校 自然科學大學 附屬 實習農場內 試料圃場에서 실시한 바, 그 結果를 要約하면 다음과 같다. 1. 草長에 있어서 硼砂施肥의 效果는 나타나지 않았으나, 初年度의 1, 2次 刈取와 2次 年度의 1次 刈取에서 生育이 진행됨에 따라 높게 나타났다. 2. 硼砂施肥에 따른 B??·B₁·B₂區의 收量에는 有意差가 없었으며, 生育이 진행됨에 따라 乾物收量은 높게 나타나 有意性이 (p<0.01, 0.05) 인정되었다. 3. 粗蛋白質 및 NDF, ADF 成分에 대한 硼砂 影響은 없었으며 生育이 진행됨에 따라 粗蛋白質含量은 떨어지고 NDF, ADF含量은 높아졌다. 4. 硼砂施肥에 의한 粗蛋白質收量은 有意差가 없었으며, 生育이 진행됨에 따라 粗蛋白質收量은 높게 나타나 그 有意性이 (p<0.05) 인정되었다. 5. 硼砂施肥에 따른 嗜好性은 B??·B₁·B₂區가 같은 傾向을 보였으며, 生育段階에 따른 嗜好性은 많은 차이를 보여 初年度의 1次 刈取時 Bud >10% bloom >100% bloom期 순으로 높게 나타났다. The purpose of the experiment was carried out to determine the effects of boron application and cutting management on the growth, yield and feeding value for the purpose of practical culture and utilization techniques. The trial was performed at different borax application level(main treatments ; 0, 15, 30kg/ha) and growth stage(sub treatments : Bud, 10% bloom and 100% bloom stage) from 1989 to 1990 in experimental field college of Natural Science, Kon Kuk University. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1. The effect of borax application in the plant length was shown, but plant length in the first and second cutting time of the first year and first cutting time of the second year after sown was high by the progression of growth. 2. There was not significant among main treatments(B??·B₁·B₂)in dry matter yield, but was shown significantly high (p<0.01, 0.05) by the progression of growth in first cutting time. 3. The content of chemical composition, NDF and ADF were not affected by boron application, and content of crude protein was decreased and those of curde fiber, NDF and ADF were increased by the progression of growht in first cutting time. 4. There was not significant among main treatments(B??·B₁·B₂) in crude protein yield but was significant (p<0.05) by the progression of growth in first cutting time. 5. There was not significant among main treatments(B??·B₁·B₂) in palatability, but palatability by growth stage was the highest at bud stage in first cutting time of first year after sown.

      • Paenibacillus harenae sp. nov., isolated from desert sand in China

        <P>A Gram-positive, endospore-forming, rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain B519T, was isolated from a desert sand sample of Gansu Province, China. Strain B519T was strictly aerobic and cells were motile by means of peritrichous flagella. The strain grew optimally at 32-35 degrees C and pH 6.5-7.0. Chemotaxonomic data supported the affiliation of the new isolate to the genus Paenibacillus, including menaquinone-7 (MK-7) as the major isoprenoid quinone, DNA G+C content of 49.9 mol%, cell-wall type A1gamma (meso-diaminopimelic acid as the diagnostic diamino acid) and anteiso-C(15 : 0), iso-C(15 : 0), C(16 : 0) and iso-C(16 : 0) as the major fatty acids. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strain B519T was most closely related to Paenibacillus alkaliterrae KSL-134T (98.0 % similarity). DNA-DNA relatedness between strain B519T and P. alkaliterrae KSL-134T was about 12.3 %. On the basis of phenotypic characteristics and molecular properties, strain B519T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Paenibacillus, for which the name Paenibacillus harenae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is B519T (=KCTC 3951T =DSM 16969T).</P>

      • Mucilaginibacter oryzae sp. nov., isolated from soil of a rice paddy

        <P>A Gram-negative-staining, non-spore-forming bacterium devoid of flagella, designated strain B9(T), was isolated from rice paddy soil associated with the roots of Oryza sativa collected from Jinju, South Korea. Cells were straight rods, were catalase- and oxidase-positive and were able to hydrolyse pectin, xylan and laminarin. Growth of strain B9(T) was observed between 15 and 35 degrees C (optimum 25-30 degrees C) and between pH 5.0 and 8.0 (optimum pH 6.5-7.5). Strain B9(T) contained menaquinone-7 (MK-7) as a major isoprenoid quinone and summed feature 3 (C(16 : 1)omega7c and/or iso-C(15 : 0) 2-OH), iso-C(15 : 0) and C(16 : 0) as major fatty acids. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 44.4 mol%. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strain B9(T) belonged to the genus Mucilaginibacter, a member of the family Sphingobacteriaceae, and was most closely related to Mucilaginibacter kameinonensis SCK(T) (95.9 % sequence similarity). On the basis of chemotaxonomic data and molecular properties, strain B9(T) represents a novel species of the genus Mucilaginibacter, for which the name Mucilaginibacter oryzae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is B9(T) (=KACC 12816(T) =DSM 19975(T)).</P>

      • ZNF509S1 downregulates PUMA by inhibiting p53K382 acetylation and p53-DNA binding

        Expression of the POK family protein ZNF509L, and -its S1 isoform, is induced by p53 upon exposure to genotoxic stress. Due to alternative splicing of the ZNF509 primary transcript, ZNF509S1 lacks the 6 zinc-fingers and C-terminus of ZNF509L, resulting in only one zinc-finger. ZNF509L and -S1 inhibit cell proliferation by activating p21/CDKN1A and RB transcription, respectively. When cells are exposed to severe DNA damage, p53 activates PUMA (p53-upregulated modulator of apoptosis) transcription. Interestingly, apoptosis due to transcriptional activation of PUMA by p53 is attenuated by ZNF509S1. Thus we investigated the molecular mechanism(s) underlying the transcriptional attenuation and anti-apoptotic effects of ZNF509S1. We show that ZNF509S1 modulation of p53 activity is important in PUMA gene transcription by modulating post-translational modification of p53 by p300. ZNF509S1 directly interacts with p53 and inhibits p300-mediated acetylation of p53 lysine K382, with deacetylation of p53 K382 leading to decreased DNA binding at the p53 response element 1 of the PUMA promoter. ZNF509S1 may play a role not only in cell cycle arrest, by activating RB expression, but also in rescuing cells from apoptotic death by repressing PUMA expression in cells exposed to severe DNA damage.

      • Ex situ catalytic upgrading of lignocellulosic biomass components over vanadium contained H-MCM-41 catalysts

        <P>H-V-MCM-41 catalysts containing 5, 10, and 30 wt% of vanadium were synthesized and applied to the ex situ catalytic pyrolysis (CP) of three polymeric components of lignocellulosic biomass for the first time. Characterization of the catalysts was performed using N-2 adsorption-desorption, XRD, FT-IR, and NH3-TPD. The results of XRD analysis showed that 5 wt% and 10 wt% H-V-MCM-41 catalysts maintained the mesoporous structure, whereas the mesoporous structure was destroyed in 30 wt% H-V-MCM-41 with considerable amount of small V2O5 crystalline outside the framework. NH3-TPD showed that H-V-MCM-41 has mostly weak acid sites and that 10 wt% H-V-MCM-41 had the largest quantity of acid sites due to framework vanadium. In the case of CP of cellulose using Py-GC/MS, 10 wt% H-V-MCM-41 showed the highest catalytic activity for the production of valuable furanic compounds such as furfural because of the enhanced deoxygenation over the acid sites formed on framework vanadium. In the case of CP of xylan as well, 10 wt% H-V-MCM-41 led to the largest yield of mono-aromatics. The production of acetic acid was also promoted by H-V-MCM-41 catalysts. The CP of lignin over H-V-MCM-41 catalysts promoted substantially the production of important feedstock chemicals for the petrochemical industry: phenolics and mono-aromatics. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V.       • Identification of stathmin 1 expression induced by Epstein–Barr virus in human B lymphocytes

        <P>Abstract. </P><P><I>Introduction</I>: The Epstein–Barr virus transforms resting B cells into proliferating lymphoblastoid cells, the origin of cell lines. <I>Method and results</I>: Our cDNA microarray analyses led to the identification of 232 up-regulated and 112 down-regulated genes with more than a 3-fold difference in lymphoblastoid cell lines compared to resting B cells. The functional classification of these genes exhibited the distinct expression signature for cell proliferation, cell cycle and an immune response. Among them, we verified the differential expression of several oncogenes such as <I>stathmin 1</I> (<I>STMN1</I>), <I>RAB27A</I>, <I>RAB9A</I>, <I>BACH1</I> and <I>BACH2</I> using quantitative real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reactions or Western blot analysis. Expression of <I>STMN1</I> (which is involved in regulation of the microtubule filament system, cell growth and S-phase of cell cycle) was increased in lymphoblastoid cell line as well as in 7-day post-Epstein–Barr virus infection B cells, compared to resting B cells. <I>Conclusion</I>: Thus, this study suggests that Epstein–Barr virus infection induces <I>STMN1</I> expression, which play a role in cell cycle progression and proliferation in the human B lymphocyte.</P>

        Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the degree of date violence damage, depression, anxiety, and somatization among women in their 20s who had experienced date violence, and to investigate the correlations b etween the subjects’ experience of date violence damage and depression, anxiety and somatization. Method: The subject of this study were collected from September 04 to October 13, 2019, by posting advertisements on the women’s university community site in Seoul and a representative women;s community site on the Internet. 149 subjects were collected in their 20s who had experienced date violence from their partners. SPSS statistics 22.0 statistical program was used for data analysis, and standard deviation, T-test, ANOVA, and Pearson’s correlation coefficients were performed. Result: The results showed that the degree of experience of date violence was significantly correlated with symptoms of depression, anxiety, and somatization. Conclusion: Since there was correlations b etween depression, anxiety, and somatization symptoms in date violence victims, it is necessary to apply nursing intervention related to depression and anxiety to prevent somatization symptoms caused by date violence.
