The clavicle plays very important role in the motion of the shoulder girdle and maintenance of power and stability of the arm. The most clavicular shaft fractures can be treated by conservative methods with a high rate of union and low rate of complications. The operative treatment in clavicular fracture is limited in such as wide separation of the fragments with soft tissue interposition, nonunion, or neurovascular involvements. From 1989 to 1991, eighty six consecutive patients with clavicular shaft fractures were treated at Ewha Womans University Hospital. Fifty eight patients were treated conservatively(Group I ) and twenty eight patients operatively(Group II) Authors compared both groups and obtained the following results; 1. The most common cause of injuries was the traffic accident and the most common associated skeletal injury around the shoulder was the rib fracture. 2. The degree of comminution and displacement of the clavicular shaft fracture were more severe in Group lI. 3. The average time to union was 8.7 weeks in Group I and 10.3 weeks in Group II. 4. The average rate of union at 4 months was 93.1% in Group I and 96.4% in Group II. 5. The functional result was good or excellent in over 90% in both Groups according to the Kang's criteria. 6. The rate of complication was 8.6% in Group I (one nonunion, three delayed unions and one malunion) and 3.6% in Group lI(only one case of nonunion) 7. The immobilization period was between 6 to 8 weeks in Group I and within 4 weeks in Group II in most cases.
세균성 점 무늬병의 기주범위 및 수박품종의 저항성 비교

세균성 점무의 병의 증상으로는 잎에서 수침상의 반점이 형성되어 점차 커지면서 암갈색의 잎 반점 혹은 잎 마름의 양상으로 진전되었다. 과실에는 암갈색의 반점이 형성되어 심한 경우 과피에 구멍을 내어 과실 내부부패와 상품성에도 큰 차질을 가져오게 되었다. 기주범위 조사를 위해 십자화과의 무, 배추, 양배추와 박과의 수박, 오이, 호박, 참외와 가지과의 고추, 토마토 그리고 국화과의 상추의 엽육조직에 수박세균성 점무늬 병균을 주사접종한 결과 공시한 모든 작물의 접종부위에서 조직이 붕괴 고사하게 되었다. 16개 시판 F1품종에 대하여 저항성 검정을 실시한 결과 종자 접종하여 파종하였을 때는 발아한 자엽의 70~80%가 이병성을 나타내었으며, 본엽의 앞뒷면에 분무접종 하였을 때는 품종간 발병정도에 다소차이가 있었으나 저항성인 품종은 발견되지 않았다. Angular leaf spot of fruits vegetable is caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. lachrymans. At first, small circular spots appear on the leaves and soon become large, angular to irregular, water-soaked areas. Infected fruits show small, circular, usually superficial spots. Affected tissues die, turn white, and crack open, and then soft-rot fungi and bacteria enter and rot the whole fruit. The bacteria overwinter on contaminated seed and in infected plant refuse. From there the bacteria are splashed to cotyledon and leaves, which they penetrate through stomata and wounds, and move systematically to other parts of the plant. The bacterium was pathogenic on Cucurbitaceae, Cruciferae, Solanaceae, and Compositae, sixteen watermelon cultivars were tested in the vinyl house for resistance to pseudomonas pickettii. Although some variation in susceptibility was observed among commercial varieties but a high of resistance was not found.
인라인 스케이트 운동프로그램이 산소이용률에 미치는 영향

This study was to investigate the effects on oxygen availability rate ininline skate program. The subjects were consisted of 14 man(experiment 7, control 7). Inline skate program practiced for 6 weeks, per week 3, per day 1hour and it was leg jump(HRmax 70%), low walk(70%), one push(80%), dead lift(80%), cushion(80%), arm swing(70%), crossover(70%). Blood cell analyse were performed using the blood-analyzer system. The result were following ; 1. Serum lipid change decreased TC, TG, HDL, LDL in control and experimental. Especially, HDL decreased in experiment significantly(p(05). 2. Blood cell analyze not changed all factor in experiment. But WBC, MCH, MCHC, PLT increased in control significantly(p<.05) and RBC, HCT, RDW% decreased significantly(p<.05). Therefor, inline skate program was effected on oxygen availability but surem lipid negatived.

OBJECTIVE:: To investigate long-term outcomes of locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) patients with postchemoradiotherapy (post-CRT) pathologic complete response of primary tumor (ypT0) and determine prognostic significance of post-CRT pathologic nodal (ypN) status. BACKGROUND:: LARC patients with post-CRT pathologic complete response were suggested to have favorable long-term outcomes, but prognostic significance of ypN status has never been specifically defined in ypT0 patients. METHODS:: The Korean Radiation Oncology Group collected clinical data for 333 LARC patients with ypT0 following preoperative CRT and curative radical resections between 1993 and 2007. Sphincter preservation surgery and abdominoperineal resection were performed in 283 (85.0%) and 50 (15.0%) patients, respectively. Postoperative chemotherapy was given to 285 (85.6%) patients. Survival was estimated by the Kaplan-Meier method, and the Cox proportional hazard model was used in multivariate analyses. RESULTS:: After median follow-up of 43 (range = 14–172) months, 5-year disease-free survival (DFS) was 84.6% and overall survival (OS) was 92.8%. The ypN status was ypT0N0 in 304 (91.3%), ypT0N1 in 22 (6.6%), and ypT0N2 in 7 (2.1%) patients. The ypN status was the most relevant independent prognostic factor for both DFS and OS in ypT0 patients. The 5-year DFS and OS was 88.5% and 94.8% in ypT0N0 patients, and 45.2% and 72.8% in ypT0N+ patients (both, P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS:: LARC patients achieving ypT0N0 after preoperative CRT had favorable long-term outcomes, whereas positive ypN status had a poor prognosis even after total regression of primary tumor.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Bioactive peptides contribute to various cellular processes including improved skin physiology. Hence, bioactive keratins have attracted considerable attention as active cosmetic ingredients for skin health. Here, we obtained low molecular weight (LMW) keratins from native chicken feathers by anaerobic digestion with an extremely thermophilic bacterium <I>Fervidobacterium islandicum</I> AW-1, followed by stepwise fractionation through ultrafiltration. To assess the effects of the feather keratins on skin health, we performed in vitro and ex vivo assays to investigate their inhibitory effects on matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). As results, LMW feather keratins marginally inhibited collagenase, elastase, and radical scavenging activities. On the other hand, LMW feather keratins significantly suppressed the expression of ultraviolet B (UVB)-induced MMP-1 and MMP-13 in human dermal fibroblasts. Furthermore, phospho-kinase antibody array revealed that LMW feather keratins suppressed UVB-induced phosphorylation of Akts, c-Jun N-terminal kinases 1, p38 beta, and RSK2, but not ERKs in human dermal fibroblast.
