        Background : In this study, we examined body image perception and dissatisfaction with weight and height in children and adolescents, according to age and body mass index. Additionally, we compared our findings with those of previous studies concerning eating disorders. Materials and Methods : In July and August 2008, 1,501 students were sampled from elementary, middle, and high schools in Ulsan and assessed using self-completion questionnaires. We used the Korean version of the Eating Attitude Test-26 (EAT-26) to screen for eating risk groups Participants were stratified by grade, gender, and body mass index. Results : 1) Dissatisfaction with height, weight, and body image was greater in the older group. 2) Dissatisfaction with weight and body image was greater in the heavier group. 3) EAT-26 scores and the number of individuals at high risk for eating disorders were higher in the female group than in the male group. Conclusion : The EAT-26 score in this study was similar to those found in Previous Westem studies. 2) There were a number of high-risk individuals in the female group, with a tendency toward earlier Presentation. Continuous health management and prevention programs are required.

      • 14세 여환에서 쇄골에 발생한 동맥류성 골 낭종 : 증례보고

        동맥류성 골낭종(aneurysmal bone cyst)은 Jaffe와 Lichtenstein(1942)에 의해 처음 기술된 이래 많은 증례가 보고되었다. 동맥류성 골낭종은 주로 장관 골의 골간단과 척추에서 발생한다. 병인은 정확히 밝혀지지 않았으나, 반응성 현상으로 생각되며, 원발성 또는 다른 병변과 동반될 수 있다. 쇄골 등 기타 골에서 발생하는 경우는 매우 드물다. 저자들은 우측 쇄골에서 동맥류성 골낭종 1예를 경험하여 보고하는 바이다. 14세 여자환자가 우측 견갑부의 우연히 발견된 종괴를 주소로 내원하였다. 환자는 종괴에 대해 이학적 검사 및 혈액 검사상 측이한 소견을 보이지 않았다. 방사선 검사상, 쇄골 내측부에 골 용해성으로 팽윤된 병변이 관찰되었고, 동맥류성 골낭종, 단순 골낭종, 전이성 골종양 등의 의증 하에 절제술을 시행하였다. 절제된 종괴의 육안 소견상, 얇은피질 골로 쌓여 있으며, 노란색 액체로 차있는 4x5cm 종괴가 관찰되었고, 완전 절제술을 시행하였다. 광학현미경상, 혈액으로 차있는 다양한 크기의 낭성 구조가 보였고, 여러 개의 거대세포가 격막을 이루고 있었다. 조직학적 소견과 MRI소견, 임상 소견을 종합하였을 때, 쇄골에서 원발성으로 발생한 동맥류성 골낭종을 진단할 수 있었다. Many cases of aneurysmal bone cyst(ABC) have been reported since Jaffe and Lichtenstein(1942) first reported. Aneurysmal bone cyst mostly occurs in metaphysis of the long bones and vertebral column. The reason for this disease has not be clearly explained yet, but it is estimated as reactive change and can be accompanied with primary lesion or another lesion. It rarely occurs in clavicle or other bones. We report one case of ABC in right clavicle. 14-year-old female patient who accidentally found palpable mass on right shoulder visited hospital. We did not find any specifics regarding this patient's mass after physical exam and blood test. Radiologic exam showed a large expansile mass with osteolytic lesion, The differential diagnosis includes ABC, simple bone cyst, metastatic bone tumor, etc. Based on visual observation on excised 4×5 cm mass, it was covered by thin cortical bone and filled with yellow fluid, and complete excision was done. On histological examination, the mass consist of various size of cystic structures. and several giant cells comprised septae. Based on histological examination, MRI, clinical examination, we made a diagnosis that it was primary anuerysmal bone cyst in clavicle

        열공형과 비열공형 피질하 혈관성 치매에서 위험인자의 차이에 관한 비교 연구

        Backgrounds and Objectives: Vascular dementia is a group of dementing disoders arising from various stroke syndrome. Among these. subcortical ischemic vascular dementia (SIVD) is regarded as a relatively distinct clinical entity. However, MRI patterns of SIVD are not homogenous. In some patients, lacunes are dominant, and in others, subcortical white matter changes are. This study was designed to compare risk factor profiles between SIVD with and without multiple lacunes. Methods: We divided 47 subjects (22 males, mean age. 68 years) recruited from VADAPET (Multicenter Trial For Evaluation Of The Changes In the PET Images Of Subcortical Vascular Dementia Patient) study into two groups one with more than 5 lacunes in deep gray matter (lacune group) and the other with 5 or less(non-lacune group) Clinical characteristics and laboratory findings of two groups were compared. Results: Nineteen of 47 patients (40%) belonged to the lacune group. The lacune and non-lacune groups d d not differ in the following variables: age, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia heart disease, history of stroke or TIA, history of trauma or major surgery, family history of hypertension stroke, or dementia, age at diagnosis of dementia, body mass index, white blood cell count, ESR, CRP, fibrinogen, hemoglobin A1C, total cholesterol. LDL cholesterol creatinine, proteinuria, glucosuria, and microhematuria. However, male sex, smoking alcohol. hemoglobin, and HDL cholesterol were possibly associated more with lacune group SIVD than with non-lacune group (p<0 1) Multivariate analyses revealed that smoking, hemoglobin, and HDL cholesterol were independent predictors of SIVD with multiple lacunes Conclusion: Our study suggests that SIVD with multiple lacunes may be significantly different in smoking habits hemoglobin, and HDL cholesterol from SIVD without multiple lacunes.

        Multimedia Presentation Authoring and Virtual Collaboration in Medicine

        Web-based virtual collaboration is increasingly gaining popularity in almost every area in our society due to the fact that it can bridge the gap imposed by time and geographical constraints. However, in medical field, such collaboration has been less popular than other fields. Some of the reasons were timeliness, security, and preciseness of the information they are dealing with. In this paper, we are proposing a web-based distributed medical collaboration system called Virtual Collaboration System for Medicine (VCSM) for medical doctors that meet the needs. The proposed system consists of two parts - multimedia presentation and recordable virtual collaboration. The former supports synchronized multimedia presentation using Synchronous Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL.) It allows synchronization of the contents of a PowerPoint presentation file and a video file. The presentation may be provided to the participants before the discussion begins. Next, in the virtual collaboration stage, participants can use text along with associated symbols during the discussion over the presented medical images. The symbols such as arrows or polygons can be set or removed dynamically to represent areas of interest in digital images using so called layered architecture that separates image layer from annotation layer. XML files are used to record participants' opinions along with the symbols over some particular images

        Prediction of the alveolar bone level after the extraction of maxillary anterior teeth with severe periodontitis

        Purpose: After extraction, the alveolar bone tends to undergo atrophy in three-dimensions. The amount of alveolar bone loss in the horizontal dimension has been reported to begreater than the amount of bone loss in the vertical dimension, and is most pronounced inthe buccal aspect. The aim of this study was to monitor the predictive alveolar bone levelfollowing the extraction of anterior teeth seriously involved with advanced chronic periodontitis. Methods: This study included 25 patients with advanced chronic periodontitis, whose maxillaryanterior teeth had been extracted due to extensive attachment loss more than oneyear before the study. Periapical radiographs were analyzed to assess the vertical level ofalveolar bone surrounding the edentulous area. An imaginary line connecting the mesialand the distal ends of the alveolar crest facing the adjacent tooth was arbitrarily created. Several representative coordinates were established in the horizontal direction, and thevertical distance from the imaginary line to the alveolar crest was measured at each coordinatefor each patient using image analysis software. Regression functions predicting thevertical level of the alveolar bone in the maxillary anterior edentulous area were identifiedfor each patient. Results: The regression functions demonstrated a tendency to converge to parabolicshapes. The predicted maximum distance between the imaginary line and the alveolar bonecalculated using the regression function was 1.43±0.65 mm. No significant differenceswere found between the expected and actual maximum distances. Likewise, the predictedand actual maximum horizontal distances did not show any significant differences. Thedistance from the alveolar bone crest to the imaginary lines was not influenced by the mesio-distal spans of the edentulous area. Conclusions: After extraction, the vertical level of the alveolar ridge increased to becomecloser to the reference line connecting the mesial and distal alveolar crests.

        Effects of calcitonin and parathyroid hormone on the regulation of cabindin-D<sub>9k</sub> in the uterus, placenta, and fetal membrane of rats related to blood calcium level during late gestation

        <P>Calbindin-D<SUB>9k</SUB> (CaBP-9k) gene is expressed in the uterus of pregnant rats, which is regulated by steroid hormones during estrous cycle or gestation. We hypothesized that there is a positive correlation between altered CaBP-9k expression and change in one or more of the hormones to provide a clue to the mechanism responsible for the altered calcium levels in the uterus, placenta, and fetal membrane during late gestation. Thus, in the present study, we investigated the effects of the hormones including estradiol (E2), calcitonin (CT), and parathyroid hormone (PTH) on the regulation of CaBP-9k in these tissues. There was an increase in the level of CaBP-9k in the uterus, placenta, and extra-embryonic membrane at late gestation, as blood calcium level increased. The protein level of CaBP-9k remained lower in the uterus at two-thirds of pregnancy, and then it rebounded abruptly during late pregnancy. During late gestation, E2 is postulated to be a dominant factor in the regulation of uterine CaBP-9k gene expression. Furthermore, we assumed that there is a positive correlation between altered expression of CaBP-9k and blood calcium level during pregnancy. The present study demonstrated the regulation of CaBP-9k mRNA in the uterus, placenta, and fetal membrane of rats, implying a role for CaBP-9k gene in the control of blood calcium in placenta and the calcium passing from maternal blood to fetal circulation. Taken together, these results suggest that major alterations in calcium metabolism caused by maternal thyroparathyroidectomy (TPTX), are sufficient to affect the changes in reproductive tissues during late pregnancy. In addition, an increase of blood calcium level is one of the most significant factors in the regulation of CaBP-9k at the transcriptional and/or translational levels in the reproductive tissues during late pregnancy.
