천연한약재(목통, 삼릉, 치자) 추출물의 항산화효과 및 항균활성효과

한약재로 많이 이용되고 있는 목통, 삼릉 및 치자의 항산화활성과 항균활성 정도를 검토하기 위해 한약재를 물, 70% methanol(MeOH) 및 100% MeOH로 추출한 후 각 추출물의 페놀화합물함량, 전자공여능, hydroxy radical 소거효과, reducing power 및 항균활성시험을 하였다. 그 결과 실험에 사용한 3가지 한약재 모두 항산화효과와 항균활성이 뛰어났으며, 특히 목통 70% MeOH 추출물이 그 효과가 가장 컸으며 다음이 100% MeOH, 물추출물 순이었다. Antioxidant activity and antimicrobial activity of medicinal plants extracts from 3 edible or medicinal plant were examined. The extracts from Akebia quinate Decaisne, Scirusfluviatilis A. Gray, Gardenia jasminoides for. grandiflora Makino showed comparatively strong antioxidative activity on test. Electron donatating abilities and hydroxy radical scavenging ablities of 70% methanol, 100% methanol extracts were higher than thoes of water extracts. Some extracts of medicinal plants showed antimicrobial effect, especially, the extracts showed antimicrobial effect in the 70% methanol higher than other extracts.
Nephrotoxic Potential and Toxicokinetics of Tetrabromobisphenol a in Rat for Risk Assessment

<P>Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA), one of the most widely used global brominated flame retardants, is used to improve fire safety of laminates in electrical and electronic equipment. To investigate the nephrotoxic potential of TBBPA and its toxicokinetic profile in rats, single-dose and daily 14-d repeated-dose toxicity studies at 200, 500, or 1000 mg/kg were performed. Several biochemical parameters were analyzed to evaluate nephrotoxicity of TBBPA. High-dose 1000 mg/kg TBBPA significantly elevated renal thiobarbituric acid-reactive substance (TBARS) levels, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was increased at all 3 doses administered. This was associated with no change in the activity of catalase (CAT). Our results suggest that acute 1-d high-dose administration of TBBPA produced transient renal changes at 5 h. Subsequently, TBBPA in serum, urine, and kidney was determined by liquid chromatography-mass spectroscopy (LC/MS). Toxicokinetic studies indicated that TBBPA shows relatively a short half-life (7-9 h) and was eliminated almost completely in feces by 2 d. Based on the results from the 14-d repeated-dose study, TBBPA did not accumulate in the rat, and was eliminated in feces. The present results suggested that TBBPA may not be toxic to kidney, as the chemical is not bioavailable and is not present in renal tissue.</P>
횡문근융해를 동반한 Mycoplasma Pneumoniae 중증 폐렴

Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a common cause of respiratory tract infections and typically causes mild disease. Extrapulmonary manifestations of M. pneumoniae infection are also common, but rhabdomyolysis is a rare complication. Here, we describe the case of a previously healthy 23-year-old male who displayed the simultaneous onset of rhabdomyolysis and severe pneumonia requiring mechanical ventilation. Both conditions were resolved by a 10-day course of antimicrobial treatment and the patient was discharged without complication.

Background: Neonatal porcine pancreas is an attractive alternative source for islet transplantation because of its growth potential and availability. Porcine neonatal pancreatic cell clusters(NPCCs) consist mainly of protodifferentiated cells expressing both the duct cell marker pancytokeratin and islet hormones. In this study, we investigated to expand and mature the pancreas duct cells contained in porcine NPCCs with extracellular matrix. Methods: For NPCCs, pancreas obtained from neonatal pigs were minced, digested with collagenase and cultured overnight, Then NPCCs were further disparsed to small cell groups and cultured on HTB-9 extracellular matrix: the tissue attached and formed monolayer patches. At the 3rd and 8th days, tissue was fixed, immunostained for pancytokeratin (panCK), vimentin (VT) and islet hormones. Results: During 5 days culture, the total cell numbers increased 3.2 fold on the matrix, and 1.6 fold on the sticky dish, respectively. Insulin positive cells (Ins+) were 6.0% of total cells at day 3 and increased 1.6 fold in nurnbers at day 8. There was significant increase in DNA content of NPCCs in monolayers on both sticky dishes and HTB-9 matrix. In contrast, insulin content of both groups decreased during culture periods. Until 8 days of culture affer dispersion of porcine NPCC, most duct cells costained with panCK and VT. Conclusion: We observed NPCCs were composed of many of duct cells which were known to be endocrine precursor cells and monolayer culture of NPCC with extracellular matrix resulted in the proliferation and differentiation of pancreatic duct cells

<P>Hedgehog signaling plays critical roles during embryonic development. It is also involved in tissue regeneration and carcinogenesis in various adult tissues. Moreover, it regulates the maintenance of cancer stem cells and adult stem cells. Although hedgehog signaling is important in gastric carcinogenesis, its role in gastric regeneration has not been previously examined. In the present study, we evaluated the expression and roles of hedgehog signaling during gastric regeneration.</P>
하인두의 상피세포암 환자에서 항암화학요법 후 발생한 typhlitis

Typhlitis is a necrotizing enterocolitis of cecum, ascending colon and terminal ileum. Typhlitis has been reported in the severely neurtropenic patients and likely results from a combination of neutropenia and defects in the bowel mucosa related to cytotoxic chemotherapy. The incidence of this disease is rising in patients with solid tumors are subject to high dose chemotherapy regimens, as well as hematologic malignancies. We report a case of typhlitis occurred in patient with squamous cell ca of hypopharynx receiving docetaxcl and cisplatin. typhlitis 는 면역 기능의 저하 백혈병 혹은 항암화학요법 이후 발생되는 호중구 감소상태에서 발생하는 질환으로 최근에는 항암화학요법의 시행빈도가 증가됨으로서 발생빈도가 증가되고 있다. 그러나 진단의 어려움과 임상증상의 유사함으로 인하여 위장관증상을 갖는 다른 여러질환과 쉽게 감별하지 않아왔다. 저자들은 하인두암에서 고용량의 항암화학요법을 시행받은 환자에서 발생된 typhlitis 1예를 경험하였고 이를 통하여 고용량의 항암화학요법을 시행받은 폐암이나 유방암과 같은 고형암 환자가 추후 위장관 증상을 호소할 경우 typhlitis의 발생 가능성에 대해 반드시 고려해야함을 알수 있었으므로 보고하는 바이다.
