Experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), an animal model of human multiple sclerosis (MS), reflects pathophysiologic steps in MS such as the influence of T cells and antibodies reactive to the myelin sheath, and the cytotoxic effect of cytokines. Galectin-9 (Gal-9) is a member of animal lectins that plays an essential role in various biological functions. The expression of Gal-9 is significantly enhanced in MS lesions; however, its role in autoimmune disease has not been fully elucidated. To identify the role of Gal-9 in EAE, we measured changes in mRNA and protein expression of Gal-9 as EAE progressed. Expression increased with disease progression, with a sharp rise occurring at its peak. Gal-9 immunoreactivity was mainly expressed in astrocytes and microglia of the central nervous system (CNS) and macrophages of spleen. Flow cytometric analysis revealed that $Gal-9^+CD11b^+$ cells were dramatically increased in the spleen at the peak of disease. Increased expression of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-R1 and p-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) was observed in the CNS of EAE mice, suggesting that TNF-R1 and p-JNK might be key regulators contributing to the expression of Gal-9 during EAE. These results suggest that identification of the relationship between Gal-9 and EAE progression is critical for better understanding Gal-9 biology in autoimmune disease.

The palatine tonsils(tonsils) and pharyngeal tonsils(adenoids) are situated at the entrance of the respiratory and alimentary tracts and represent the first site of contact with a variety of microorganisms and other antigens present in food and inhaled air. They are known as lymphoid organs carrying out the function of cellular and humoral immunity, and so they form a local protective barrier. And the expression of the vascular endothelial adhesion molecules is known to play an important role for the inflammatory reaction in tonsils and adenoids as well as in other inflammatory tissues, by binding with the receptors on the surface of leukocytes. But although several scientific hypotheses on the role of these lympoid tissues have been suggested, their complete functions have remained unknown. The purpose of this study is to present an basic data of the knowledge on the immunologic physiology of the tonsils and adenoids and their role as active immunologic organs that reinforce the mucosal immunity of the entire upper aerodigestive tract. We examined 16 human tonsils and adenoids and the expression of three endothelial adhesion molecules, vascular endothelial adhesion molecule-1(VCAM-1), intracellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1), and E-selection, in tissue sections using immunohistochemistry. We used the inferior turbinate mucosa obtained from 9 patients getting septal surgery as a control group. The expressions of vascular endothelial adhesion molecule-1(VCAM-1) and intracellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) were significantly higher in the tonsils and adenoids. But respectively, there were no significant differences between the tonsils and adenoids. The expression of E-selection was significant higher in the tonsils, but not in the adenoids. We observed that tonsils and adenoids showed significantly higher expressions of vascular endothelial adhesion molecule-1(VCAM-1), intracellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1), and E-selection (in the case of E-selection, only in the tonsils). We propose that these adhesion molecules play an important role for the immunologic reaction by the transendothelial migration of lymphocytes and binding with the receptors on the surface of leukocytes.
간호학과 입학생의 학교생활 극복 유형에 관한 주관성 연구: 대학졸업 후 간호학과에 입학한 학생들을 중심으로

본 연구는 Q방법론을 적용하여 대학졸업 후 간호학과 입학생의 학교생활 극복 유형과 그 특성을 규명하였다. 28명의 대학졸업 후 간호학과 입학생을 대상으로 34개 진술문을 9점 척도 상에 강제분포 하도록 하였으며, 수집된 자료는 QUNAL PC프로그램을 이용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과 대학졸업 후 간호학과 입학생의 학교생활 극복 유형은 3가지로 분류되었다. 제1유형은 “비판적 사고 극복형”, 제2유형은 “자아 탄력적 극복형”, 제3유형은 “자기 효능적 극복형”으로 분류되었다. 본 연구는 최근 증가하고 있는 대학졸업 후 간호학과 입학생의 학교생활 극복력에 대한 주관성 구조를 파악해 냄으로써 각 유형에 따른 효과적인 간호교육 운영을 위한 전략과 대학생활적응을 돕기 위한 기초를 제공하는데 의의가 있다. In this study, the Q methodology was applied to identify the type of nursing students entering the college and how they overcome school life. Twenty - four post - graduate nursing students enrolled 34 statements on a 9 - point scale. The collected data were analyzed using the QUNAL PC program. The results of this study are as follows. The first type was classified as "critical thinking overcome type", the second type was classified as "self - resilient overcoming type", and the third type was classified as "self - efficacy overcoming type". The purpose of this study was to identify the subjectivity structure of coping abilities of nursing students and students after college graduation and to provide a basis for effective nursing education management and adaptation to college life have. In addition, the number of nursing students entering the college after graduation increases gradually, but research on adaptation to college life is almost insignificant. At the present time, the students who entered the nursing department after graduating from college have different value system and learning background,, But they are expected to be used as basic data necessary for adaptation as a full-fledged nursing college student without dropping out.
WWW 환경을 위한 멀티미디어 전자 우편 시스템의 구현

현재의 Web Browser는 단순히 HTML 문서를 다루는 기능만 가지고 있어서 메일 작성자가 추가적인 멀티미디어 정보를 결합한 메일을 보낼 수가 없으며 더우기 기존의 메일 시스템인 MailManager나 Pine등은 Web Browsing 기능을 제공하기 않으므로 실질적으로 HTML 문서와 멀티미디어 정보를 실질적으로 통합하여 전송하는 메일시스템은 아직 없다고 할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 관점에서 HTML 문서와 멀티미디어 정보를 함께 결합한 형태로 메일을 작성하고 프리젠테이션할 수 있는 통합적인 메일시스템을 구현하였다. The current Web Browsers can deal with only HTML documents, as a result, they do not support multimedia mail. Furthermore, existing multimedia e-mail systems, including MailManager and Pine do not offer web browsing capability. So. actually there does not so far exist an integrated mail system supporting not only HTML documents but also multimedia information. This paper describes our work for implementation of an integrated mail system to challenge this open problem.
