Effect of the effluent of the sewage and wastewater plants on the algal growth was investigated from the 19 plants located in the Nakdong river basin. Most of the samples showed high values of the algal growth potential (AGP) when they were mixed with natural river water at 20% of final concentration. At 20% of the mixing ratio, the mixed effluents of sewage and wastewater showed 3.5 and 1.8 times higher AGP than those of the natural river water. The higher AGP values are attributable to the high contents of phosphorus and ammonium in the effluent. The mixing ratio of effluents of the discharge/river flow was highest in the Kumho River (42.8%) followed by the middle of Nakdong River (22.7%), Kam Stream (13.9%), Byungsung Stream (13.3%), Yangsan Stream (7.9%), and Young River (5.4%). Comparison of the trophic state of the effluents with natural river water indicated that the effluents showed higher trophic values than natural water. Concentrations of total phosphorus, total nitrogen and conductivity in the effluents were 12.3, 4.9 and 5.3 times higher than the those found in natural river water respectively. The AGP values were highly related with the trophicity of the water especially on the concentrations of phosphate and ammonium. Toxicities of the treated sewage water, wastewater and livestock waste water tested by the luminescent bacteria, Vibrio fischerii were generally low.

To define the effects of fish(Hypophihalmichthys molltrix) predation on phytoplankton densities and activities of extracellular enzymes including phosphatase, cellobiohydrolase and β-glucosidase were weekly investigated both in fish and control aquariums. Eventhough there was no increment of nutrients by fish predation, chl. a concentration in the fish aquarium was 12.6mg m^-3, twice higher than in the control, and total bacterial number(AODC) was 1.1x10^7cells ml^-1, 5 times higher than control aquarium after 25 days. The V_(max) and K_m values of extracellular enzyme activities were higher in the fish aquarium. Especially, the V_(max) of β-glucosidase in the fish aquarium was 7 times higher than in the control. These results suggest that the predation and digestion of Hypophihalmichthys molltrix should cause the diversification of substrates of extracellular enzymes and stimulate nutrient cycles and degradation of organic materials.

오늘날에 항만부진동의 문제는 대형선박이 입출항하는 항만의 설계에서 가장 현저한 인자로 작용한다. 연안 항만에서 탄성체의 삭으로 계류하고 있는 대형 선박은 장주기파랑과 계류시스템간의 공진으로 인해 종종 이탈되기도 한다. 특히, 장주기 파랑의 증폭비가 현저해지면 화물의 하역에 장애를 가져오며 계류삭이 절단되는 경우도 발생한다 이중 국내에서 부진동의 문제가 가장 현저하게 나타난 항만은 포항신항이며, 이에 따른 문제가 도선사 협회나 지역해양수산청으로부터 보고되고 있다. 그러나 이 항만에서 부진동을 야기하는 장주기 파랑의 내습을 막는 것은 어렵다. 더구나 정부는 이미 포항신항에서 발생하고 있는 이러한 문제점을 해결하지 않고 영일만의 입구에서 신항만 건설을 이미착수해놓고 있다. 본 연구는 영일만 입구의 4.1km에 달하는 방파제 건설과 신항만 계획을 반영하여 이들이 항만 부진동에 어떠한 변화를 가져오는 것인가에 대해 다룬다. 사용한 수치기법은 확장완경사방정식을 사용한 표준형식을 갖춘 것으로 수치실험결과를 이전 연구를 통해 이루어진 관측치와 비교하였으며, 이것이 어느 수준까지의 토론으로 이끌어 낼 것이며 장래 항만개발에 변화를 가져올 것으로 본다. Today the harbor oscillation problems are the most significant factor to design harbors serving the very large ships. Large vessels moored in the elastic hawsers at the coastal harbors are often displaced due to the resonance between the long period waves and mooring system. The cargo handling may be interrupted and the hawsers may be broken, especially when the amplification becomes remarkable. The most significant harbor which is confronted with harbor oscillation problem in Korea is the Pohang New Port. Many cases of problems are being notified by the pilot association and local office of MOMAF. However, it is difficult to prevent the arrival of long waves musing oscillation within this harbor. Moreover, government already started new port plan at the mouth of Yeongil Bay without treating problems occurred in the Pohang New Port. This study deals with the variation of harbor oscillation due to the construction of 4.1km breakwater at the bay mouth and new port plan. Numerical method used are fairly standard form from the extended mild slope equation The obtained numerical results were compared with the field measurement from the previous study and this will bring a certain level of discussion and consideration of variation in the future port development.

The wind generated circulation model describes the phenomenon based on the following physical assumptions: a) As the horizontal dimension of the flow domain is several orders of magnitude larger than vertical dimension, nearly horizontal flow is realistic. b) The time taken for circulation to develop may effect on the flow domain of the earth's rotation, the contribution of the Coriolis force. c) A flow domain of large dimension results in quite large Reynolds number and the Reynolds stresses are approximated by the turbulent mean velocity gradient. d) The circulation is forced by the shear stresses on the water surface exercised by the wind. Modification made to the depth average approximation of the convective terms and the bed shear stress terms by adopting a certain distribution of current over the depth and laboratory measurements for the bed shear expression. Modification circulation patterns, energy evolution and surface profile gave the significant differences comparing with the classical model results. The modified model results in higher free surface gradients balancing both the free surface shear and the bed shear and consequently to higher surface profiles along the coast.

The seasonal dynamics of phytoplankton and trophic state were evaluated weekly at three sites in the Lake Unmoon from May to November 2001. The seasonal succession pattern of phytoplankton community in the Lake Unmoon showed that the dominant species were; i) diatoms during the late spring, ii) dinoflagellates in June, iii) blue green algae, diatoms and dinoflagellates in July, iv) green algae and blue green algae in August, v) blue green algae in September and early November, and vi) diatoms in November. Members of Microcystis were dominant from middle August to late October and members of Aulocoseira appeared as important species in autumn in the Lake Unmoon. The concentration of chlorophyll-a ranged from 2.4 to 23.0 mg ${\cdot}m^{-3}$ (average: 8.6 mg ${\cdot}m^{-3}$) during the study period. Concentrations of total phosphorus were high during the period from July to November with the maximum of 0.028 mg ${\cdot} l^{-1}$. The average N/P ratio was 121, indicating that concentrations of phosphorus may determine the high algal biomass in the Lake Unmoon. Concentrations of silicate were higher in the Lake Unmoon (average value: 10.016 mg ${\cdot}$ l-) than in other lakes (average values: 1.074-4.408 mg ${\cdot}$ l-), suggesting high potential of diatom growth. The average trophic state index in the Lake Unmoon was 52, which was close to eutrophic state, and the trophic state trend was increasing steadily since 1999.

For the test organism of algal growth potential (AGP), the diatom in the genus Stephanodiscus which cause blooms in the Nakdong River was used instead of generally used strains of Selenastrum, Microcystis, or Anabaena. AGP results indicated that all the samples in the Nakdong River except for that from the Nakdan Bridge site were eutrophic state. Furthermore, the sample from Kumho River site was hypertrophic state. In the main stream Nakdong River, the value of AGP was lowest at the upstream Nakdan Bridge site and was highest at Koryoung Bridge site which is just downstream of Kumho River confluent point indicating the seriousness of pollution contributed by the Kumho River to the Nakdong River. Changes in the concentration of nutrients before and after the AGP tests and inter-relationship among the nutrients indicated that the growth of the Stephanodiscus in the AGP tests were mostly affected by the nitrate, silicate and phosphate. The limiting nutrient was identified by the nutrient addition experiments and the results showed that phosphate was the limiting nutrient for the growth of Stephanodiscus in the tested samples.
