The current study was designed to scientifically evaluate the atmospheric particulate pollution in residences relative to their proximity to a Korean major iron/metal industrial complex (IMIC). This objective was achieved by measuring the concentrations and elemental composition of particulate matter with aerodynamic diameters equal to or less than 10 ㎛ (PM10) in industrial ambient air from IMIC and residential ambient air with relative proximities to IMIC, The trace metals were analyzed using an inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), The industrial mean values exceeded the Korean year/70-㎍/㎥ standard for PM10, whereas the residential mean values did not. However, the maximum residential values did exceed or were close to the Korean PM10 year standard. For individual elements, the ambient concentrations ranged widely from values in the order of a few ng/㎥ to thousands of ng/㎥. The residential mean mass concentrations in the PM10 measured in the present study were higher than or similar to those reported in earlier studies. This study suggests that residents in neighborhoods near the IMIC are exposedto elevated particulate levels compared to residents living further away from such a source.

Most of recent visible-light derived photocatalytic studies have been focused on water applications. Even the less-reported gaseous studies have primarily dealt with chemical process stream concentrations than indoor air quality (IAQ) concentration levels. Accordingly, the current study was conducted to establish the feasibility of applying visible-light-induced TiO2 doped with sulfur (S) element to cleanse toluene and ethyl benzene at IAQ levels. The S-doped TiO2 was prepared by applying two popular processes and two well-known methods. For both target compounds, the two coating methods exhibited different photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) efficiency. Similarly, the two S-doping processes showed different PCO efficiency. These results indicate that the coating method and doping process are important parameters which can influence PCO efficiency. Meanwhile, it was found that the PCO efficiency of ethyl benzene was higher than that of toluene. In addition, the degradation efficiency of the target compounds increased as the relative humidity (RH) decreased. The PCO efficiency varied from 44% to 74% for toluene and from 68% to 95%, as the RH decreased. Consequently, it is suggested that with appropriate RH conditions, the visible-light-assisted photocatalytic systems can also become an important tool for improving IAQ.

개 시상하부의 Neuropeptides에 대한 면역조직화학적 연구

The distribution and localization of somatostatin(SOM), neuropeptide Y(NPY), vasopressin(VP), and oxytocin(OT) were studied with a immunohistochemical technique in the canine hypothalamus. The SOM-immunoreactive perikarya were concentrated in the anterior periventricular and the arcuate nuclei. Immunoreactive terminals were observed in the arcuate, the ventromedial hypothalamic, the suprachismatic nuclei and the external layer of the median emmence. A great number of NPY-immunoreactive cell bodies were found in the arcuate nucleus and NPY fibers were located throughout the hypothalamus with the highest concentration especially in the paraventricular (PVN) and the acuate nuclei. Moderately or densely stained fibers were also observed in the median eminence, the suprachiasmatic. the periventricular, the ventromedial hypothalamic, the dorsomedial hypothalamic and the medial preoptic nuclei, and the stria terminalis. Both VP-and OT-containing perikarya were found mainly in the PVN and supraoptic nucleus(SON). but a few were seen in the perifornical area, the lateral hypothalamus, the dorsal hypothalamic and the periventricular nucleus. The fibers originated from the PVN were projected to the SON via ventral or dorsal area of the fornix.
