        In Vitro Antiviral Activity of Ribavirin Against Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome Virus Myung Jin LEE1, Kye-Hyung KIM1, Jongyoun YI2, SuJin CHOI1, Chung-Jong KIM1, Nak- Hyun KIM1, Kyoung-Ho SONG1, Pyoeng Gyun CHOI1, Ji-Hwan BANG1, Wan Beom PARK1, Eu Suk KIM1, Sang-Won PARK1, Hong Bin KIM1, Nam Joong KIM1, Myoung- Don OH1 Seoul National University College of Medicine, Korea1, Pusan National University School of Medicine, Korea2 Background: Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an emerging infectious disease caused by a novel Bunyavirus, severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV). No effective antiviral therapy is proven yet, but clinical use of ribavirin (RBV) has been tried. We investigated the antiviral effect of RBV against SFTSV in vitro. Methods: To test for cytotoxicity of RBV, Vero cells were treated with different concentrations of RBV (3.90 to 500 μg/mL, two-fold dilution) and analyzed by cell viability MTS assay 48h post-infection. To determine antiviral activity of RBV against SFTSV, Vero cells were infected with SFTSV strain Gangwon/Korea/2012 at 100 TCID50 (50% tissue culture infective dose) per well in a 96-well plate, and RBV was added at the concentrations showing no or minimal cytotoxicity. Viral RNAs were extracted from the culture supernatants and quantifi ed using one-step real-time reverse transcription- PCR to amplify the partial large segment of SFTSV. Statistical analysis was done by one-way ANOVA with Tukey`s post hoc test. Results: Cytotoxicity due to RBV was not observed at RBV concentration =31.3 μg/ mL. Viral RNAs at 24h post-RBV treatment were reduced with increasing RBV concentrations (1-32 μg/mL), compared with those of mock-treated cells (P <0.01, Figure). Half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of RBV was 3.69 μg/mL at 24h post-RBV treatment. Conclusions: Our study shows that RBV has antiviral effect against SFTSV in a dose-dependent manner. Further studies are required to evaluate the effi cacy of RBV in SFTS.

        Wireless pressure sensor integrated with a 3D printed polymer stent for smart health monitoring

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The primary objective of this study was to deploy a promising wireless pressure sensor system capable of monitoring real-time biological signals in an experimental object. MEMS-based micromachining technology was used to fabricate the proposed SU-8 wireless pressure sensor. The sensor utilizes a capacitor-inductor resonant circuit that can operate the sensor without any external power supply. The variable capacitor in the pressure sensor is designed to change the resonance frequency (130, 183 MHz) in response to applied pressure. The fabricated wireless pressure sensor was integrated into a polymer-based smart stent to minimize the discomfort of medication administration and hospital visits. A 3D bio-printing-based manufacturing technique was employed for the production of a smart polymer stent with complicated shapes. The proposed method is considerably more comfortable than the conventional metal stents fabrication process. The polymer smart stent made of the biocompatible polycaprolactone (PCL) material which can be fully absorbed by the body after a medication period. After integrating the fabricated wireless pressure sensor with the polymer smart stent, various basic experiments such as the working distance of the sensor were performed using a simple experimental setup. The biocompatibility of the proposed polymer stent and the wireless pressure sensor was also successfully confirmed using an experimental animal.         After the Japanese Empire annexed the peninsula of Korea. The Korean people continued to struggle against the Japanese Imperialism for the independence and liberation of Korean people. But those goals were not achieved until the 1920's Initial anti-Japanese emotional appeals was changed to the national consciousness of anti-Japanese Imperialism and finally to the nationalist movement. Even though the initial Korean nationalist movement against Japan had a characteristics of the genuine nationalist movement, but gradually the direction of the Korean nationalist movement was turned to the aspect of the socialism or the communist movement. In the view of the development of the Korean nationalist movement, it could be specially pointed out that the Korean socialist movement, which is considered initially not to have the characteristics of Marxism or the communism, took advantages of the nationalist movement. The integration of the Korean nationalist movement was achieved as the organization of Shin Gan Hoe, which was strategically used by the communists. Therefore the Korean nationalist movement was ideologically divided again into the nationalist and the socialist movement. The period of the 1920's was characterized as the time in which the Korean nationalist movement was divided ideologically, and the nationalist and the socialist movement were confronted and discord each other.

        림프부종 치료프로그램이 림프부종이 있는 말기 암 환자의 사지둘레와 신체증상에 미치는 영향

        Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the effects of lymphedema treatment program on extremities circumference and physical symptoms in terminal cancer patients with lymphedema. Method: The subject was 13 patients diagnosed with lymphedema and admitted to C Hospital, hospice unit from March 1 to August 31, 2004. The effects of treatment were evaluated by measuring extremities circumferernce and by assessing physical symptons. Data were analyzed by using repeated measures ANOVA, Scheffé multiple comparisons. Result: The results were as follows: Extremities circumference was reduced significantly 30.8cm after last treatment compared with 33.4cm pre-treatment. Physical sysptom, 'heaviness' was improved significantly 4.2 after last treatment compared with 7.8 pre-treatment and difficulty to mobility was improved significantly 4.5 after last treatment compared with 7.4 pre-treatment. Conclusion: These findings indicate that lymphedema treatment program could be an effective nursing intervention for reducing extremities circumference and improving physical symptoms in terminal cancer patient.

      • 2단 IMDCT Recursive 구조를 이용한 MPEG-2 AAC 복호화기의 필터뱅크 구현

        MPEG-2 AAC(Advanced Audio Coding)는 높은 압축율과 고음질의 특성을 갖는 멀티채널 오디오 압축 표준으로 알려져 있고, 대우 낮은 비트율에서 방송 음질 수준의 오디오를 제공하기 위해서 고해상도 필터뱅크(high-resolution filter bank), 예측기법(prediction), 허프만 부호화(Huffman coding) 등을 결합하여 사용한다. MPEG-2 AAC 필터뱅크에서 부화화기와 복호화기에서 각각 수행하는 MDCT(Modified Discrete Cosine Transform)/ IMDCT(Inverse MDCT) 연산은 특히 많은 연산을 필요로 한다. 본 논문에서는 MPEG-2 AAC 실시간 복호화 시스템을 하드웨어로 구현시 IMDCT의 연산에 적합한 2단 IMDCT의 Recursive 구조를 제안한다. 그리고 메모리와 연산속도, 하드웨어의 복잡도를 기존에 제안된 알고리듬과 비교하였다.       • 토끼 귀의 출혈모델에서의 스트렙토키나제-덱스트란 포합체의 혈전용해효과 및 항원성 평가

        The way in which a thrombolytic agent, streptokinase(SK, Dongkook) and streptokinase-Dextran conjugate(SK-DEX, Russia), cause the dissolution of haemostatic plugs of different ages was investigated in a novel rabbit bleeding model, and antigenicity of SK and SK-DEX was elvalutated by indirect ELISA using antisera collected after 7 days intravenous injection to a rabbit ear. Standardized incisions were made on rabbit ear and the wounds were left to heal for 0.5 h or 24 h, before the thrombolytic agent was infused. SK showed a pronounced fresh colt selectivity since it was significantly more effective in lysing flesh clots than old ones (96% vs 52%) respectively, percent lysis of haemostatic plus of different ages with SK-DEX conjugate (150,000 IU/㎏) was more effective in lysing fresh clots than old ones (20% vs 0%) respectively. The time onset of bleeding observed for SK(Dongkook) (19min) was the same as that of SK (Kabi) (19min), but the bleeding time observed for SK(Dongkook) (90 min) was twice longer than that formed SK(Kabi) (49min). However, the time to onset of bleeding of SK-DEX(Russia) (61min) was longer than that of the formed SK(Dongkook) (19 min). The bleeding time observed for SK-DEX(Russia, 150,000 IU/㎏) (1min) was shorter than that found for SK(Dongkook) (90min). The antigenicity of SK-DEX(Dongkook) was more effective than that of SK(Dongkook) in comparision with each control. These results suggest that the fresh clot selectivity demonstrated for SK and SK-DEX may be clinically beneficial and remains to be clarified by further invertigations.

      • Java 병행프로그래밍 도구의 개발

        분산응용시스템은 서비스의 효율향상을 위해 일반적으로 병행성을 지원하는 것이 바람직하다. 그러나 병행성을 지원하기 위한 프로그래밍 기법은 난이도가 높은 구현 기법이며, 대부분의 프로그래밍 언어에서 이를 직접적으로 지원하지 않으므로, 분산응용시스템을 위한 개발자의 부담을 가중시키고 있다. 본 논문에서는 현재 분산응용시스템의 작성에 널리 쓰이고 있는 Java에서 병행성을 체계적으로 지원하기 위한 기반으로서, 세미포어나 조건변수와 같은 고수준 동기화 도구의 개발에 대해 소개하였다. 이러한 Java고수준 동기화 도구는 순수한 Java로 개발되어 이식성을 지니고 있으며, 개발자가 쉽게 기술할 수 있는 인터페이스를 제공하고 있다. 또한 Java가 지닌 대중성으로 인해 대부분의 분산응용시스템의 구축에 널리 사용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. In a development of distributed applications, it is desirable for a server to support concurrency in order to provide effective services. However, the programming mechanism for concurrency is difficult to implement correctly, so most programming languages do not support this facility directly. Therefore, the fact imposes extra burdens to the developers for distributed applications. The high-level synchronization tools such as Semaphores and Condition Variables in Java are suggested as a basis for systematically supporting concurrency control. The suggested high-level synchronization tools also have a good portability since it has developed in pure Java. In addition, due to the popularity of Java, these tools will ho a long way with developers in building distributed systems.

        정신과 임상에서 치료순응도에 영향을 미치는 치료자 행동에 관한 연구

        Objective : This study was performed to elucidate therapist's behavioral enhancing the compliance of psychiatric patients. As one of the approaches to obtain such a goal, the authors studied the relationship between the compliance and therapist's behaviors which were divided into socioemotional and task-oriented one. Methods : Self-report questionnaire was given to all 84 patients at the 1st and 2nd visit to outpatient department which was prepared to evaluate therapist's socioemotional and task-oriented behavior, and patient's level of agreements. After 3 months the authors examined the scores of each components of the questionnaire and compared them between compliant group and drop-out one. Results : 1) The compliant group significantly made higher scores at therapist's socioemotinal and task-oriented bahavior and patient's level of agreements respectively. 2) The subjects responded that therapist's sociemotional behavior was more important than task-oriented one with respect to compliance. Conclusion : Therapist's sociemotional and task-oriented behavior influence the compliance of psychiatric patients and the sociemotional bahaviro is more important than task-oriented behavior.
