        Shot peening 가공에 의한 노치재의 응력분포와 피로강도의 개선

        Second step shot peening was applied on both smooth specimen and U-notch specimen in order to investigate the stress distribution and the improvement in fatigue strength. Various experiments and measurements such as rotary bending fatigue test and the measurement of compressive residual stress were performed. The results showed that the fatigue strength of second step shot peened specimens increased by 34 percent compared to that of unpeened ones. Compressive residual stress also considerably increased, which resulted in the increase of fatigue strength. Finite element analysis showed that shot peening is effective decreasing the bending stress by external force. The effectiveness of shot peening reducing the compressive residual stress was anticipated by the superposition of the concentrated stress and the compressive residual stress.

        Exhaust gas of vehicle is a big problem today. Reducing the weight of vehicle is desirable to reduce the cost and to improve the efficiency of vehicle. In the previous work, it seemed that the shot peening of suspension spring of vehicle improved the fatigue strength. Compressive residual stress can be obtained up to -792MPa by shot peening. Fatigue strength of machining spring steel is 425MPa. But fatigue strength of shot peened spring steel increased up to 756MPa.

        In past decade, ectopic pregnancy developing in the previous cesarean section scar has been the rarest forms of ectopic pregnancy and very dangerous because of the risk of uterine rupture and hemorrhage. These pregnancies once carried a maternal mortality rate of 40% to 45%, and until recent years they usually resulted in abdominal hysterectomy as a life-saving procedure. However, increased awareness of the importance of preserving childbearing capacity has led to several successful attempts at conservative management that include intraamniotic and systemic methotrexate administration, suction curettage followed by insertion of an intracervical 30-mL Foley catheter ballooning and angiographic artery embolization. We present three cases of ectopic pregnancy developing in the previous cesarean section scar in which successfully treated with conservative management.

        우주적 실재에 관한 인식론적 성찰

        양자론과 관련한 인식론적 문제들은 지금까지 많이 논의되어왔다. 그러나 현대 우주론과 관련한 인식론적 문제는 거의 논의된 바가 없다. 우주론(cosmology)은 우주 자체에 관한 인간 경험의 한계 때문에 1960년대 이전까지는 사변적 요소를 많이 담고 있었으며, 과연 그것이 과학의 분야일 수 있는지에 관한 논란이 많았다. 그러나 이후 몇 십 년 간 우주론 분야는 눈부시게 성장하였고 고도로 이론화되었다. 본 논문은 우주의 시작과 끝에 관한 이론으로서의 우주론의 내용을 철학적 문제의식의 관점에서 살펴보고 그 안에서 제기되는 인식론적 물음들을 다룬다. 이 물음은 과학적 이론의 정당화와 진리, 검증 불가능한 과학이 론의 정당화 문제, 우주의 객관적 실재에 관한 이론으로서의 우주론 내에서 등장하는 인간원리의 문제들과 관련되어있다. 본 논문은 과학적 이론의 궁극적 정당화는 객관적 실재와의 대응이 아니라 (그 이론이 그 객관적 실재 자체의 기원과 생성에 관한 이론인 경우에는 더욱 그러하다.) 이론의 설명력과 이론 내에서의 수학적ㆍ논리적 정합성, 그리고 인간원리에 의존하는 일종의 선험논변에 의해 이루어짐을 초끈 이론의 경우를 통해서 보이고자 한다.

        Ascorbic acid insufficiency induces the severe defect on bone formation via the down-regulation of osteocalcin production

        The L-gulono-γ-lactone oxidase gene (Gulo) encodes an essential enzyme in the synthesis of ascorbic acid from glucose. On the basis of previous findings of bone abnormalities in Gulo-/- mice under conditions of ascorbic acid insufficiency, we investigated the effect of ascorbic acid insufficiency on factors related to bone metabolism in Gulo-/- mice. Four groups of mice were raised for 4 weeks under differing conditions of ascorbic acid insufficiency, namely, wild type; ascorbic acid-sufficient Gulo-/- mice, 3-week ascorbic acid-insufficient Gulo-/- mice, and 4-week ascorbic acid-insufficient Gulo-/- mice. Four weeks of ascorbic acid insufficiency resulted in significant weight loss in Gulo-/- mice. Interestingly, average plasma osteocalcin levels were significantly decreased in Gulo-/- mice after 3 weeks of ascorbic acid insufficiency. In addition, the tibia weight in ascorbic acid-sufficient Gulo-/- mice was significantly higher than that in the other three groups. Moreover, significant decreases in trabecular bone volume near to the growth plate, as well as in trabecular bone attachment to the growth plate, were evident in 3- or 4-week ascorbic acid-insufficient Gulo-/-. In summary, ascorbic acid insufficiency in Gulo-/- mice results in severe defects in normal bone formation, which are closely related to a decrease in plasma osteocalcin levels.

        산업특성이 비대칭적 원가행태에 미치는 영향

        Prior literature has just examined internal factors of firms as the main determinants on the asymmetric cost behavior. However, when managers make a decision about cost strategy, they consider not only internal factors of firms, but also external factors of firms such as characteristics of industry. The research which focuses on the internal factors of firms to examine asymmetric cost behavior is exposed to the limitation. Therefore, this paper investigates a relation between the external factors and asymmetric cost behavior. We use three factors: 1) degree of competition, 2) entry cost, and 3) concentration of industry in each industry, as external factors. The empirical findings are as follows. First, the degree of competition in each industry is negatively associated with cost (COGS: Cost of Goods Sold) stickiness. Second, entry barrier in each industry is positively associated with cost (COGS: Cost of Goods Sold and SG&A: Selling, General, and Administrative expense) stickiness. This finding is consistent with the contention that the firm with higher entry cost takes a strategy of product differentiation, not a strategy of cost leadership, to prevent an inflow of potential competitors in one``s industry. Lastly, whereas the concentration in each industry is positively associated with cost (COGS: Cost of Goods Sold) stickiness, the concentration in each industry is negatively associated with cost (SG&A: Selling, General, and Administrative expense) stickiness. This result indicates that the firms with higher concentrated industry show a pattern on cost (COGS: Cost of Goods Sold) stickiness because those firms have a characteristic to keep the entry barrier. However, we find different result on cost (SG&A: Selling, General, and Administrative expense) stickiness because these firms with regulation and restriction are exposed to higher monitoring on private interest of managers. This paper makes several contributions to the existing literature. First, this paper provides evidence that the asymmetric cost behavior could be affected by the external factors. Second, by examining external factors with three different measures for the asymmetric cost behavior, this paper suggests that future research must consider the characteristics of each industry. Finally, by linking the asymmetric cost behavior to manager’s strategy, this paper provides a broad view on cost strategies taken by the manager.

      • 포병부대 정비병들의 유기용제 노출에 대한 생물학적 평가 연구

        Objective : Organic solvents have been to used for cleansing the barrel of artillery. That were known to be harmful for health. In this study, urinary biological metabolites and hematologic changes were surveyed among the artillery soldiers using organic solvents. Methods : The study subjects for the exposed group were 41 artillery soldiers who participated in repair-work and for the control I group were 23 artillery soldiers who had not been exposed to organic solvents and for the control II group were 25 ROTC members who did not yet enter the army. We studied to analyse the exposure stated by questionnaire about protection equipments, blood test and biological metabolites of organic solvents. Results : Members of exposure group complained that somatic symptoms like headache and dizziness were developed after repair-work. Blood test in exposure group showed normal range values but RBC, Hb and Hct were decreased compared to values in control II group. The arithmetical mean of urinary phenol was 9.61(±14.14)mg/g·creatinine in exposure group and some of exposure group were over the normal range. Conclusions : The above results showed possibilities that organic solvents might be exposed to the artillery soldiers. Therefore it is necessary to promote the rates of supply and usage of protection equipments and it is necessary to conduct a follow-up survey to reconfirm the exposure by using a specific biological metabolite like t,t-MA.

      • Nasal lift-preliminary results of a new technique with wedge shaped threads

        Background: Filler rhinoplasty is a popular procedure in the Asian population. Although it successfully raises the nasal dorsum, unlike surgical rhinoplasty, it has limited ability to produce a significant change in the caudal aspect of the nose. To overcome the weakness of filler rhinoplasty, threads have been added. Objectives: We aimed to see the combined effect of filler/ threads in rhinoplasty. Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed on the filler + threads rhinoplasty cases, wehre wedge shaped PDO threads were adopted. A total of 15 Korean patients were included. All participants underwent a single treatment session. The results were assessed objectively using serial photography and subjectively based on the patients’ satisfaction scores. Complications were also recorded. Results: A total of 15 patients (1 male and 14 female) were reviewed. Their mean age was 34.5 years (range 21-56). All patients (100%) found the results to be satisfactory. Consensus ratings by two independent dermatologists showed that the objective outcomes at 2-month follow-up were very-much improved (53.3%), much improved (33.3%) and improved (13.3%). The incidence of complications was low and the complications were minor. Conclusion: Wedge shaped PDO sutures are a promising adjunct for filler rhinoplasty.
