The effects of Laminaria japonica fucoidan extract (LJFE) on the biochemical parameters of lipid-related function were investigated in liver and serum of CCl_(4)-treated rats. LJFE of 100 mg/kg concentration was intraperitoneally administered into rats at dose of 1.5 ml/kg for 14 days. On the day 15, 3.3 ml/kg of CCl_(4) dissolved in olive oil (1:1) was injected 12 hours before anesthetization. We examined the lipid-related functions and enzyme activitys by measuring the levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in serum. The results showed that CCl_(4) treatment increased the high values of TG, LDH and ALP decreased the low values of TC but LJFE pretreatment decreased the high values of TG, LDH and ALP to the low values, increased the TC. It was suggested that LJFE can be used as the potential candidate for the lipid-metabolism natural supplement.

It is important to understand the pattern of uptake and translocation of pesticides in crops. In particular, as there is not enough information on the uptake and translocation of a newly registered fungicide picarbutrazox is selected for study on the uptake pattern for different parts of cabbage. To observe uptake and translocation pattern of picarbutrazox (10% SC) treated with soil, cabbages were cultivated for 68 days in soils treated with concentrations of 2 and 10mg/kg. The initial levels of picarbutrazox residue in soils were 2.21 and 10.71mg/kg and decreased to 72.6% and 94.5% on the last harvest day, respectively. During the harvest period, uptake of 0.8∼3.8% was translocated from the soil to the shoot part of cabbage. Distribution of picarbutrazox for each part of cabbage indicated that the root part showed higher residue level compared with the shoot part, and the cabbage stem showed the highest distribution rate in the shoot part. On the last harvest day, in the 2mg/kg treatment group, the residue level was 0.20mg/kg for the root part and 0.08mg/kg for the shoot part. In 10mg/kg group, the residue level was 1.30mg/kg for the root part and 0.19mg/kg for the shoot part. To observe the foliar application translocation pattern of picarbutrazox, cabbages were sprayed with picarbutrazox 2 or 3 times before harvest. The residue levels in cabbage shoot part were 0.17mg/kg, 0.37mg/kg, 0.78mg/kg and 3.34mg/kg, respectively and the residue levels in the root part were 0.21mg/kg, 0.33mg/kg, 0.31mg/kg and 0.32mg/kg respectively. Residue levels were found to be higher in the leaves than the root, with highest residue level in the outer leaves.

Uterine sarcomas are rare mesodermal tumors that account for 3-7% of uterine cancer. They are a heterogeneous group of tumors and have poor prognosis. It is difficult to diagnosis at preoperatively, that the positive predictive value using image study such as Abdominal Pelvis computed tomography (AP-CT) or Pelvis magnetic resonance (MRI) scan is very low. We present a rare case of the primary ovarian fibrothercoma mimicking uterine sarcoma. A 89-years old postmenopausal women present with progressive abdominal pain and palpable abdominal mass. AP-CT revealed about 16cm sized uterine was suspected uterine sarcoma. Tumor markers are normal range. She underwent exploratory laparotomy. There are a huge irregular hard mass with several feeding vessels originated right ovary and grossly normal uterus and left adnexa. A surgical exploration was performed within whole abdomen. there was no metastatic nodules. we performed Right salpingo-oophorectomy and requested frozen biopsy at pathologist. It was a ovarian stromal tumor. Therefore, we performed total hysterectomy, Left salpingo-oophorectomy and both pelvic lymph node biopsy. The final pathologic diagnosis documented an ovarian fibrothecoma. This case reported an unusual case of the primary ovarian fibrothecoma mimicking uterine sarcoma.
