Tri-functionalized electrolyte additive as an interfacial stabilizer for lithium metal anodes

Ye Jin Jeon,Subin Lee,Kicheol Kim,Jeong Ae Yoon,Taeeun Yim 한국공업화학회 2023 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.127 No.-

Li metal has received noticeable interest as a post-anode material, however, many critical hurdles remainin its application in conventional batteries. Herein, we have designed and prepared an additive, the AF,that is functionalized by three individual functional groups: vinyl-, bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide-, and acetalfunctional groups. The AF-additive promotes forming solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) layers at the Limetal interface via electrochemical reduction at a higher potential than that found in the carbonatebasedelectrolyte, which is predominately composed of inorganic species, such as lithium fluoride, ratherthan polycarbonate. The ionic conductivity of the electrolyte with the AF-additive is well retained evenwhen the amount of AF-additive is increased because the acetal functional group may form acetal–Li+complexes, which encourages Li+ migration. The AF-additive controlled electrolyte offers improvedcycling retention in the both Li/Li symmetric cell and Li/NCM cell because the AF-additive not only effectivelysuppresses electrolyte decomposition at the interface of Li metal but also inhibits the formation ofLi dendrites based on enhanced Li metal stability.

Fluorine- and maleimide-functionalized electrolyte additive as an interface modifier for Ni-rich LNMC/SiO batteries

Jeon Ye Jin,Yim Taeeun 한국물리학회 2023 Current Applied Physics Vol.46 No.-

SiOx anodes and Ni-rich LiNixCoyMnzO2 (LNMC) cathodes are considered practical electrodes for electric vehicles; however, these advanced electrode materials suffer from poor prolonged cycling. In this study, N-(4-fluorophenyl)maleimide (FPMI) is used as an electrolyte additive that simultaneously enhances the interfacial stability of each electrode through the formation of solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) or cathode electrolyte interphase (CEI) layers. The electrochemical reduction and oxidation of FPMI promote the formation of SEI and CEI layers on the SiOx anode and Ni-rich LNMC cathode, respectively. FPMI addition also considerably increases the cycling retention because the FPMI-derived SEI and CEI layers effectively inhibit electrolyte decomposition during cycling, thereby increasing the cell lifespan. Additional spectroscopic analyses indicate that the SEI and CEI layers developed on each electrode effectively prevent parasitic reactions, such as electrolyte decomposition with transition metal dissolution in the cell; thus, the surface stability of the cell is also improved.

Spartina anglica-Derived Carbon-Coated PE Separator for Physically Restraining Polysulfide Migration in Lithium-Sulfur Batteries

Jeon Ye Jin,하유나,Kim Jang Kyun,김연정,임태은 한국화학공학회 2024 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.41 No.4

Lithium–sulfur batteries (LSBs) have received substantial interest because their theoretical energy density is considerably higher than that of conventional lithium-ion batteries. However, the diffi culty in confi ning the soluble intermediate polysulfi de (PS) species of LSBs hinders the prolonged cycling of the cell. In this study, a Spartina anglica -derived carbon-coated polyethylene (PE) separator (SC-coated PE separator), which can confi ne the PS species on the cathode side, is developed to improve the cycling retention of LSBs. Spartina anglica , which is considered a predominant marine waste, is converted to task-specifi c carbon materials via size-controlled milling and carbonization, and is embedded on a PE separator through a simple casting process. The SC-coated PE separator improves the electrolyte affi nity, which is characterized by measuring the contact angle, electrolyte uptake, and transference number of Li + ; consequently, the migration of Li + is undisturbed in the cell, even if an additional layer is formed on the PE separator. Based on the electrochemical performance, the SC-coated PE separator exhibits a higher initial specifi c capacity than the PE separator, in addition to a remarkably increased cycling retention (65.3% vs. 27.7%) after 100 cycles. The SC-coated PE separator eff ectively inhibits the PS species through physical absorption, thereby increasing the utilization of the active sulfur species. Moreover, the SC-coated PE separator presents a relatively stable interfacial morphology of the cycled Li anode, revealing that the comprehensive interfacial stability of the Li–S cell is enhanced by eff ectively confi ning the PS species in the cell.

Correlation Between Knee Muscle Strength and Maximal Cycling Speed Measured Using 3D Depth Camera in Virtual Reality Environment

        Ye Jin Kim(Ye Jin Kim),Hye-seon Jeon(Hye-seon Jeon),Joo-hee Park(Joo-hee Park),Gyeong-Ah Moon(Gyeong-Ah Moon),Yixin Wang(Yixin Wang) 한국전문물리치료학회 2022 한국전문물리치료학회지 Vol.29 No.4

Background: Virtual reality (VR) programs based on motion capture camera are the most convenient and cost-effective approaches for remote rehabilitation. Assessment of physical function is critical for providing optimal VR rehabilitation training; however, direct muscle strength measurement using camera-based kinematic data is impracticable. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a method to indirectly estimate the muscle strength of users from the value obtained using a motion capture camera. Objects: The purpose of this study was to determine whether the pedaling speed converted using the VR engine from the captured foot position data in the VR environment can be used as an indirect way to evaluate knee muscle strength, and to investigate the validity and reliability of a camera-based VR program. Methods: Thirty healthy adults were included in this study. Each subject performed a 15-second maximum pedaling test in the VR and built-in speedometer modes. In the VR speedometer mode, a motion capture camera was used to detect the position of the ankle joints and automatically calculate the pedaling speed. An isokinetic dynamometer was used to assess the isometric and isokinetic peak torques of knee flexion and extension. Results: The pedaling speeds in VR and built-in speedometer modes revealed a significantly high positive correlation (r = 0.922). In addition, the intra-rater reliability of the pedaling speed in the VR speedometer mode was good (ICC [intraclass correlation coefficient] = 0.685). The results of the Pearson correlation analysis revealed a significant moderate positive correlation between the pedaling speed of the VR speedometer and the peak torque of knee isokinetic flexion (r = 0.639) and extension (r = 0.598). Conclusion: This study suggests the potential benefits of measuring the maximum pedaling speed using 3D depth camera in a VR environment as an indirect assessment of muscle strength. However, technological improvements must be followed to obtain more accurate estimation of muscle strength from the VR cycling test.

For the reduction of graphene oxide (GO), irradiation with electron beam was used, and for the exfoliation of VP and the blend of VP and rGO, the sonication was used. To investigate the feasibility of VP-rGO, produced by simple method for mass production, as a HTL, the surface, chemical element and electrical properties were carried out and we fabricated organic solar cells (OSCs) based on PTB7-th:PC71BM with VP-rGO as a HTL. The 2D/2D VP-rGO hybrid material specially takes advantage of both high work function of VP and good conductivity of rGO. Exploring the associations between cardiovascular health measured with the CANHEART model and early cognitive impairment in a middle-aged population in Korea

Ye Jin Jeon,Ji Heon Lee,Hyeon Chang Kim,Sun Jae Jung 한국역학회 2021 Epidemiology and Health Vol.43 No.-

OBJECTIVES: Both cardiovascular health (CVH) and inflammation are associated with cognition, and inflammation is also associated with CVH. However, limited information has been reported on these factors in the Korean population. The objective of our study was to investigate the influence of inflammation on the association between CVH and cognition using a cross-sec-tional design. METHODS: Data were obtained from the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases Etiology Research Center baseline study. Participants who completed fasting serum analysis, questionnaires, and cognitive function tests were included in the analysis, whereas those with a history of autoimmune disease were excluded. The CVH in Ambulatory Care Research Team health index metrics, including smoking, physical activity, healthy diet, obesity, history of hypertension, and diabetes, were used to assess CVH. Cognitive function was evaluated with the Korean version of the Mini-Mental State Estimation for Dementia Screening. Inflammatory status was assessed based on a high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) test. RESULTS: Among 2,622 total participants (mean age, 57.2 years; 1,792 women), 13%, 58%, and 29% had poor, intermediate, and ideal CVH, respectively. Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that CVH was significantly associated with cognitive function only in women. A stratified analysis showed that cognitive impairment due to CVH was not associated with hs-CRP levels. When the same analyses were conducted for each CVH component, the only component affecting the association was hypertension history in men. CONCLUSIONS: CVH is not significantly associated with cognitive decline in the middle-aged Korean population. Inflamma-tion did not play a significant modifying role in this relationship.

Overhydration measured by bioimpedance analysis and the survival of patients on maintenance hemodialysis: a single-center study

( Ye Jin Kim ),( Hong Jae Jeon ),( Yoo Hyung Kim ),( Jae Woong Jeon ),( Young Rok Ham ),( Sarah Chung ),( Dae Eun Choi ),( Ki Ryang Na ),( Kang Wook Lee ) 대한신장학회 2015 Kidney Research and Clinical Practice Vol.34 No.4

Background: Bioimpedance analysis (BIA) helps measuring the constituents of the body noninvasively. Prior studies suggest that BIA-guided fluid assessment helps to predict survival in dialysis patients. We aimed to evaluate the clinical usefulness of BIA for predicting the survival rate of hemodialysis patients in Korea. Methods: We conducted a single-center retrospective study. All patients were diagnosed with end-stage renal disorder and started maintenance hemodialysis between June 2009 and April 2014. BIA was performed within the 1st week from the start of hemodialysis. The patients were classified into 2 groups based on volume status measured by the body composition monitor (BCM; Fresenius): an overhydrated group [OG; overhydration/extracellular water (OH/ECW) >15%] and a nonoverhydrated group (NOG; OH/ECW 15%). Results: A total of 344 patients met the inclusion criteria. Of these, 252 patients (73.3%) were categorized into the OG and 92 patients (26.7%) into the NOG. Age- and sex-matching patients were selected with a rate of 2:1. Finally, 160 overhydrated patients and 80 nonoverhydrated patients were analyzed. Initial levels of hemoglobin and serum albumin were significantly lower in the OG. During follow-up, 43 patients from the OG and 7 patients from the NOG died (median follow-up duration, 24.0 months). The multivariate-adjusted all-cause mortality was significantly increased in the OG (odds ratio, 2.569; P ¼ 0.033) and older patients (odds ratio, 1.072/y; P < 0.001). No significant difference of all-cause or disease-specific admission rate was observed between the 2 groups. Conclusion: The ratio of OH/ECW volume measured with body composition monitor is related to the overall survival of end-stage renal disorder patients who started maintenance hemodialysis.

Genetic characterization of alloherpesvirus (cyprinid herpesvirus-2 and koi herpesvirus) and poxvirus (carp edema virus) identified from domestic and imported cyprinids in Korea

        Ye Jin Jeong,Yu Gyeong Jeon,Hee Ju Choi,Eun Jin Baek,Guk Hyun Kim,Yun Jung Yang,Min Jae Kim,Joon Gyu Min,김광일 한국수산과학회 2023 Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Vol.26 No.7

Cyprinids are popular species for aquaculture worldwide, with Asia being a significant contributor to their production. In Korea, common carp (Cyprinus carpio), koi carp (Cyprinus rubrofuscus), and goldfish (Carassius auratus) are cultivated domestically and imported for ornamental or human consumption purposes. Among the viruses that infect cyprinids, cyprinid herpesvirus-2 (CyHV-2), koi herpesvirus (KHV, also known as cyprinid herpesvirus-3), and carp edema virus (CEV) are of particular concern as they cause substantial economic losses to the aquaculture industry. In this study, we investigated these viruses in both of domestic and imported cyprinids. Our results revealed that CyHV-2 was only detected in imported goldfish from Thailand. To further investigate the genetic characteristics of them, the marker A region was analyzed. Despite belonging to the same cluster with isolates from China, France, Poland, and Israel, CyHV-2 detected in this study showed distinct differences in their repetitive sequence sizes. Furthermore, two different forms of KHV/CEV coinfection were identified from domestic koi carp, both of which exhibited typical symptoms. Phylogenetic analysis showed that one KHV isolate (ScKc-2105-K) was of the Asian type and closely related to isolates from Japan, Indonesia, Belgium, Taiwan, and China. Two CEV isolates (ScKc-2105-CE and GhKc-2207-CE) belonged to the IIa type and showed high similarity with isolates from the USA, France, and Korea. Notably, koi carp injected with cultured KHV (ScKc-2105-K) showed 78.0% cumulative mortality within 14 days post-injection (dpi). Our findings support the importance of regular surveillance of viral diseases in cyprinids.

A Herpes Simplex Virus Infection Secondary to Acupuncture and Cupping

        Ye-Jin Jung,Jae-Hong Kim,Hae-jin Lee,Hana Bak,홍승필,Soo Young Jeon,안성구 대한피부과학회 2011 Annals of Dermatology Vol.23 No.1

Acupuncture and cupping have a public reputation as being safe even though these practices can lead to complications such as trauma or infection. We report here on a case of herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection secondary to acupuncture and cupping in a 56-year-old woman. The patient, who had a history of acupuncture and cupping on her left forearm for treating her myalgia, developed painful papules. Histologically, the biopsy specimen showed characteristic ballooning degeneration and inclusion bodies in the epidermis and mid-dermis. These clinical and histological findings were consistent with the diagnosis of HSV infection. (Ann Dermatol 23(1) 67∼69, 2011)
