        Cyclic GMP-AMP Synthase in Cancer Prevention

        Cyclic GMP-AMP (cGAMP), synthesized by cGAMP synthase (cGAS), serves as a secondary messenger that modulates various cellular processes, including cell proliferation, cell death, immune response, and inflammation. cGAS is activated upon detecting cytoplasmic DNA, which may originate from damaged genomic and mitochondrial DNA or from viral and bacterial infections. The presence of DNA in the cytoplasm can trigger a substantial inflammatory reaction and cytokine production via the cGAS-STING signaling pathway. Consequently, specific inhibitors targeting this pathway hold significant potential as chemopreventive agents. In this review, we explore the potential effectiveness of modulating cGAS activity. We discuss the role of cGAMP, the mechanism of action for distinguishing between self and foreign DNA, and the possible functions of cGAS within the nucleus

        Performance Analysis of Multi-antennas Combining and Selection Schemes for Wireless-Powered Communication

        We propose and analyze spatial diversity combining andselection schemes in a wireless-powered communication networkwith multi-antennas at energy access point (EAP) and data accesspoint (DAP). The EAP adopts either maximal-ratio transmittingor transmit antenna selection to wirelessly transfer power, and theDAP employs either maximal-ratio combining or receive antennaselection to combine the received information. It generates fourschemes for the wireless-powered communication network. We derivenew closed-form expressions for the statistical characterizationsof the received signal to noise ratio (SNR). Based on these expressions,the outage probability and the average throughput arefurther derived. The diversity order of the proposed schemes isgiven through the asymptotic outage probability analysis at highSNR regime. Nakagami-m fading with non-identical fading parametersis assumed for both power transfer channel and informationtransmission channel. Numerical results are given to validateall the analytical results. The impact of EAP transmit power, thenumber of EAP/DAP antennas, and the energy harvesting time onthe performance of the proposed schemes is also investigated. algorithm. The pro-posed non-greedy puncturing algorithm lies mainly in the dynam-ical minimization of the number of unpunctured variable nodes inthe redefined recovery tree for the punctured variable nodes. Fi-nally, simulation results show that the proposed puncturing algo-rithm outperforms the existing best puncturing algorithms in biterror rate performances of iterative decoding.

        Comparative studies on potential dependent electrochemical impedance spectroscopy of cathode material 0.5Li2MnO3$0.5LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2 for the initial two charging cycles

        Cathode material 0.5Li2MnO3·0.5LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2 is successfully synthesized by citrate acid assisted sol -gel method and shows pretty good electro-chemical performance. To elucidate the electro-chemical reactions and charge carrier transportation kinetics in the charge-discharge process, series of electrochemical impedance spectra for the first and the second charge process are measured on multiple given state of charges. The rapid augmentation of resistance to electronic conduction and ionic conduction within the voltage range 4.45-4.6 V where the removal of Li2O from Li2MnO3 component takes place gives us more evidence about the complicated “structurally integrated” feature of this material. The relatively large span of the arc responsible for electronic conduction and the extremely large Mn3+ related charge transfer resistance at the beginning of the second charging indicate that after one complete charge-discharge cycle, Li2MnO3 and LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2 domains still reserve its original structure and will keep its structure for the followed cycles.

        Iterative coupling of precise integration FEM and TD-BEM for elastodynamic analysis

        The iterative decomposition coupling formulation of the precise integration finite element method (FEM) and the time domain boundary element method (TD-BEM) is presented for elstodynamic problems. In the formulation, the FEM node and the BEM node are not required to be coincident on the common interface between FEM and BEM sub-domains, therefore, the FEM and BEM are independently discretized. The force and displacement converting matrices are used to transfer data between FEM and BEMnodes on the common interface between the FEM and BEM sub-domains, to renew the nodal variables in the process of the iterations for the un-coincident FEM node and BEM node. The iterative coupling formulation for elastodynamics in current paper is of high modeling accuracy, due to the semi-analytical solution incorporated in the precise integration finite element method. The decomposition coupling formulation for elastodynamics is verified by examples of a cantilever bar under a Heaviside-type force and a harmonic load.

        Overexpression of a Rice Diacylglycerol Kinase Gene OsBIDK1 Enhances Disease Resistance in Transgenic Tobacco

        A rice diacylglycerol kinase (DGK) gene, OsBIDK1, which encodes a 499-amino acid protein, was cloned and characterized. OsBIDK1 contains a conserved DGK domain, consisting of a diacylglycerol kinase catalytic subdomain and a diacylglycerol kinase accessory subdomain. Expression of OsBIDK1 in rice seedlings was induced by treatment with benzothiadiazole (BTH), a chemical activator of the plant defense response, and by infection with Magnaporthe grisea, causal agent of blast disease. In BTH-treated rice seedlings, expression of OsBIDK1 was induced earlier and at a higher level than in water-treated control seedlings after inoculation with M. grisea. Transgenic tobacco plants that constitutively express the OsBIDK1 gene were generated and disease resistance assays showed that overexpression of OsBIDK1 in transgenic tobacco plants resulted in enhanced resistance against infection by tobacco mosaic virus and Phytophthora parasitica var. nicotianae. These results suggest that OsBIDK1 may play a role in disease resistance responses.

        Phylogenetic Analysis of 16S rDNA Sequences Manifest Rumen Bacterial Diversity in Gayals (Bos frontalis) Fed Fresh Bamboo Leaves and Twigs (Sinarumdinaria)

        Six male Gayal (Bos frontalis), approximately two years of age and with a mean live weight of $203{\pm}17$ kg ($mean{\pm}standard\;deviation$), were housed indoors in metabolism cages and fed bamboo (Sinarundinaria) leaves and twigs. After an adjustment period of 24 days of feeding the diet, samples of rumen liquor were obtained for analyses of bacteria in the liquor. The diversity of rumen bacteria was investigated by constructing a 16S rDNA clone library. A total of 147 clones, comprising nearly full length sequences (with a mean length of 1.5 kb) were sequenced and submitted to an on-line similarity search and phylogenetic analysis. Using the criterion of 97% or greater similarity with the sequences of known bacteria, 17 clones were identified as Ruminococcus albus, Butyrivibrio fibrosolvens, Quinella ovalis, Clostridium symbiosium, Succiniclasticum ruminis, Selenomonas ruminantium and Allisonella histaminiformans, respectively. A further 22 clones shared similarity ranging from 90-97% with known bacteria but the similarity in sequences for the remaining 109 clones was less than 90% of those of known bacteria. Using a phylogenetic analysis it was found that the majority of the clones identified (57.1%) were located in the low G+C subdivision, with most of the remainder (42.2% of clones) located in the Cytophage-Flexibacter-Bacteroides (CFB) phylum and one clone (0.7%) was identified as a Spirochaete. It was apparent that Gayal have a large and diverse range of bacteria in the rumen liquor which differ from those of cattle and other ruminants. This may explain the greater live weights of Gayal, compared to cattle, grazing in the harsh natural environments in which Gayal are located naturally.

        Differentiation of cystic biliary atresia and choledochal cysts using prenatal ultrasonography

        Purpose: This study explored the performance of prenatal ultrasonography in the differential diagnosis of cystic biliary atresia (CBA) and choledochal cyst (CC). Methods: Fetuses diagnosed with hepatic hilar cyst in the second trimester were included in this study. A series of prenatal ultrasound examinations were performed in the second and third trimesters. The diameter of the gallbladder (GB) and hepatic cyst were measured, as well as the wall thickness of the GB. The GB-cyst connection, visibility of the right hepatic artery (RHA), and other concomitant abnormalities were carefully evaluated. A neonatal transabdominal ultrasound examination was performed within 1 week after birth, and clinical data were followed up to 6 months after birth. Results: Between January 1, 2016 and January 31, 2020, 53 fetuses diagnosed with hepatic hilar cyst were recruited. Eight were excluded because they were lost to follow-up. Among the 45 cases included in this study, 10 were diagnosed with CBA and 35 with CC after birth. Statistically significant differences were found in GB width, wall thickness, change in GB width, change in cyst length, GB-cyst connection, and RHA visibility between the CBA and CC groups. GB width showed the best diagnostic performance with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.899. The combination of GB width, GB wall thickness, and GB-cyst connection yielded a comparable AUC of 0.971. Conclusion: The GB should be carefully evaluated in fetuses with hepatic hilar cyst. Prenatal ultrasound findings could provide suggestive parameters for the differential diagnosis of CBA from CC.
