A rice diacylglycerol kinase (DGK) gene, OsBIDK1, which encodes a 499-amino acid protein, was cloned and characterized. OsBIDK1 contains a conserved DGK domain, consisting of a diacylglycerol kinase catalytic subdomain and a diacylglycerol kinase accessory subdomain. Expression of OsBIDK1 in rice seedlings was induced by treatment with benzothiadiazole (BTH), a chemical activator of the plant defense response, and by infection with Magnaporthe grisea, causal agent of blast disease. In BTH-treated rice seedlings, expression of OsBIDK1 was induced earlier and at a higher level than in water-treated control seedlings after inoculation with M. grisea. Transgenic tobacco plants that constitutively express the OsBIDK1 gene were generated and disease resistance assays showed that overexpression of OsBIDK1 in transgenic tobacco plants resulted in enhanced resistance against infection by tobacco mosaic virus and Phytophthora parasitica var. nicotianae. These results suggest that OsBIDK1 may play a role in disease resistance responses.
Dual-anchor anti-corrosion coating of copper foil for high-speed interconnects

In this experiment, two similar molecules with bifunctional groups have been characterized to prove theadvantages of dual-anchor molecular coating in the interfacial modification of the copper foil. The physicochemicalproperties of the modified copper foils have been studied. The obtained results indicate thatthe anti-corrosion performance and peeling strength were significantly improved for the copper foil treatedwith (2-(Methylthio)pyrimidin-4-yl)methanamine (MET), whose bonding information was analyzedvia the density functional theory calculation. It was found that the S-Cu and N-Cu bonds were bothformed on the Cu (1 1 1) surface for MET coating, and the adsorption of the double anchor pointsimproves the stability of the interface. The peeling test exhibits the function of MET coating as the adhesionpromotor between low-surface profile copper and resin for high-speed signal transmission.

Probiotics are live microorganisms that can be consumed by humans in amounts sufficient to offer health-promoting effects. Owing to their various biological functions, probiotics are widely used in biological engineering, industry and agriculture, food safety, and the life and health fields. Lactobacillus acidophilus (L. acidophilus), an important human intestinal probiotic, was originally isolated from the human gastrointestinal tract and its functions have been widely studied ever since it was named in 1900. L. acidophilus has been found to play important roles in many aspects of human health. Due to its good resistance against acid and bile salts, it has broad application prospects in functional, edible probiotic preparations. In this review, we explore the basic characteristics and biological functions of L. acidophilus based on the research progress made thus far worldwide. Various problems to be solved regarding the applications of probiotic products and their future development are also discussed.

Normal and the spontaneous spirally rolled leaves of Cymbidium goeringii var. longibracteatum were used for RNA sequencing analyses using the Illumina paired-end sequencing technique to figure out the differently- expressed genes in two samples. About 5.65 and 4.82 Gb sequencing data of raw reads were obtained from 2 cDNA libraries of normal and the spirally rolled leaves respectively. After data filtering, quality checks and de novo assembly, a total of 48,935 unigenes with an average sequence length of 820 nt were generated. In addition, the transcriptome change in normal and the spirally rolled leaves was investigated. With non-redundant annotation, 219 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) are identified, with 147 up-regulated genes and 72 down-regulated genes. Out of these DEGs, 21 DEGs (9.59 %) were involved in cell wall modeling enzymes, such as expansin, xyloglucan endo-transglycosylase, pectate lyase, cell wall-associated hydrolase. Besides, other DEGs were predominantly classified as genes involved in transcription factor and signal sense and transduction signaling. This study presents the first comprehensive characterization of the leave transcriptomes of Cymbidium goeringii var. longibracteatum. This study not only gave us valuable sequence resources of this species, but also provided theoretical foundation for cultivar breeding of leaf mutation in C. goeringii var. longibracteatum.
Synthesis and Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity of Black Porous Zr-doped TiO2 Monoliths

Black Porous Zr-doped TiO2 monoliths were successfully synthesized by a combined route including sol–gel method with polystyrene spheres as template followed by calcination at high temperature in the presence of oxygen. As-synthesized samples were then treated in hydrogen atmosphere at 500℃ for 6 h to obtain black Porous Zr-doped TiO2 monoliths. This as-synthesized black porous Zr-doped TiO2 composite showed relatively narrow bandgap compared to the pure anatase phase of TiO2, which may have its origin from the contributions from the Zr impurity and oxygen vacancies. The photocatalytic activity of the black porous Zr-doped TiO2 monolith was examined by carrying out the dye degradation on Rhodamine B under visible irradiation. Our experimental results indicate that black porous 0.9% Zr-doped TiO2 sample exhibits high photocatalytic activity with the photodecomposition of 95.25% under visible irradiation for 120 min.

Nano-CeO2 was prepared through the calcination of Ce(OH)3 precursor in different atmospheres (H2, Ar, air, O2), which was prepared by a hydrothermal method, and then used as catalysts in the direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from methanol and CO2. The results indicated that the catalyst calcined in O2 (CeO2-O2) showed an optimum catalytic performance, and the yield of DMC reached to 1.304mmol/mmolcat. In addition, reaction temperature and weight of catalyst were optimized. Based on characterizations of the catalysts, the ratio of Ce(IV)/Ce(III) and Lewis acid-base property of nano-CeO2 catalyst could be adjusted through different calcination atmosphere treatment. It was determined that the higher activity of CeO2-O2 catalyst is mainly attributed to its higher ratio of Ce(IV)/Ce(III) as well as abundant and moderate intensity Lewis acid base sites.

As the largest class of resistant genes, the nucleotide binding site (NBS) has been studied extensively at a genome-wide level in rice, sorghum, maize, barley and hexaploid wheat. However, no such comprehensive analysis has been conducted of the NBS gene family in Triticum urartu, the donor of the A genome to the common wheat. Using a bioinformatics method, 463 NBS genes were isolated from the whole genome of T. urartu, of which 461 had location information. The expansion pattern and evolution of the 461 NBS candidate proteins were analyzed, and 118 of them were duplicated. By calculating the lengths of the copies, it was inferred that the NBS resistance gene family of T. urartu has experienced at least two duplication events. Expression analysis based on RNA-seq data found that 6 genes were differentially expressed among Tu38, Tu138 and Tu158 in response to Blumeria graminis f.sp.tritici (Bgt). Following Bgt infection, the expression levels of these genes were up-regulated. These results provide critical references for further identification and analysis of NBS family genes with important functions.

A modified SiO2 material (MSM) was successfully synthesized by using Na2SiO3 and a novel CO2SM in the presence of CTAB through an innovative hydrothermal releasing treatment protocol. The MSM was systemically characterized using several techniques, including N2 adsorption-desorption isotherm, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The CO2SM as a platform for CO2 capturing and releasing can be reversibly used for multiple cycles without significant loss of capabilities. The optimum conditions for the preparation of MSM were identified as follows: Na2SiO3 concentration, 0.2mol/L; hydrothermal temperature, 120 oC; CO2SM dosage, 6 g; CTAB concentration, 24 g/L, reaction time, 12 h. Additionally, the MSM exhibited high efficiency for the removal of phenol from aqueous solution: it showed a phenol adsorption capacity of 91.29mg/g when shaken with the aqueous phenol solution at 180 rpm for 1 h at 25 oC.

Liquid phase dehydration of glycerol to acrolein catalyzed by Brønsted acidic ionic liquids (BAILs) usingsemi-batch reaction technique was investigated. For the BAILs catalysts, the acrolein yields were inan order of [Bmim]H2PO4 > [Bmim]HSO4 > [BPy]HSO4 > [PSPy]HSO4 > [N2224]HSO4 > [PSPy]H2PO4> [BPy]H2PO4 > [N2224]H2PO4. When [Bmim]H2PO4 and [Bmim]HSO4 were used as the catalysts at 270℃ with the molar ratio of catalyst to glycerol of 1:100, the acrolein yields were 57.4% and 50.8%,respectively, at complete conversion of glycerol. The BAILs with [Bmim] cation and moderate acidityfavored the formation of acrolein in liquid phase glycerol dehydration.
