        Purpose: The purpose of this descriptive study is to examine the correlation between nursing students’ perception of nurses and the level of their satisfaction with the major. Method: The survey was done with the total number of 192 nursing students from 10 different universities in S city selected by a convenience samplingmethod. In order to measure the perception of nurses, the measurement which was invented by Lee(1992) and revised by Jang(1998) was used. Also, the measurement designed by Shim, and modified by Kim(2007) was used for measuring of the students’ satisfaction in their major. The collected data was analyzed by SPSS 17.0. Results: 1.The most decisive factor of the conceptualization of the image of nurses for the nursing college students is their experience of meeting nurses as a patient. 2. Students reconsider the role of nurses by experiencing immediate relationships with nurses in field training. 3. Other factors of the survey such as the students’academic year, religion, the field training situation (individual experience, type of the hospital where they experienced the training, and a relationship with the nurse in charge of the training) or the existence of nurses among their family members do not affect the students’ satisfaction. 4. There is a positive correlation between the image of nurses of nursing college students and their satisfaction with the major(0.66). Conclusion: The positive image of nurses is directly related to the students’ satisfaction in the nursing major, which hugely affects on their academic achievements and decisions of career path. Therefore, there should be more efforts to increase the positive perception of nurses among nursing students.

        Protein‐binding site prediction based on three‐dimensional protein modeling

        <P>Structural information of a protein can guide one to understand the function of the protein, and ligand binding is one of the major biochemical functions of proteins. We have applied a two-stage template-based ligand binding site prediction method to CASP8 targets and achieved high quality results with accuracy/coverage = 70/80 (LEE). First, templates are used for protein structure modeling and then for binding site prediction by structural clustering of ligand-containing templates to the predicted protein model. Remarkably, the results are only a few percent worse than those one can obtain from native structures, which were available only after the prediction. Prediction was performed without knowing identity of ligands, and consequently, in many cases the ligand molecules used for prediction were different from the actual ligands, and yet we find that the prediction was quite successful. The current approach can be easily combined with experiments to investigate protein activities in a systematic way.</P>

        표현용 어휘집 사용과 쓰기: 한국어 중급 학습자를 대상으로

        The experiment was conducted on 40 intermediate Korean language learners in order to suggest the necessity of a level-specific dictionary that can help with the writing activities of Korean language learners who are learning Korean as a foreign language. An intermediate vocabulary book was created for the experiment. The experimental group (20) performed the writing task referring to the intermediate vocabulary book for five weeks, and the control group (20) performed the writing task referring to the bilingual dictionary (Naver dictionary). After a five-week experiment, syntactic proficiency was measured based on the final test and the extensive writing of free writing. The experimental group showed better fluency, complexity, and accuracy than the control group. Through this, we saw the possibility of using a level-specific dictionary to improve the writing ability of Korean learners. (Sookmyung Women’s University)

      • 단백질 3차 구조 모델링에 기반한 리간드 결합부위 예측

        단백질 구조 및 리간드 (ligand) 결합부위에 대한 정보는 단백질 기능을 이해하는데 중요한 가이드 역할을 한다. 본 연구에서는 리간드 결합부위 예측을 위해 크게 두 단계의 계산이 수행되었다. (1) 아미노산 서열로부터 템플릿 기반 모델링 방법을 사용, 단백질의 3차 구조가 예측되었다. (2) 단백질 구조 예측에 사용된 단백질-리간드 복합체 구조를 이용, 예측된 단백질 모델로부터 단백질-리간드 결합부위를 예측하였다. 이 방법은 27개 CASP8 기능 예측 단백질에 대해서 적용 되었고, Accuracy=70, Coverage=80의 우수한 결과를 냈다. 특히, 단백질-리간드 결합부위의 예측에 사용된 단백질 모델 대신에 실험에 의해 결정된 native 구조를 사용했을 경우 그 결과에서 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 단백질-리간드 결합부위 예측은 리간드에 대한 정보 없이 수행되었는데, 많은 경우에 실재로 native에서 결합하는 리간드는 상이했음에도 불구하고 본 연구의 접근방법은 성공적이었다.

        Performance Enhancement of a Forwarding Layer for Mesh Networks

        In this paper, we introduce our experiences with an ad hoc network and propose an enhancement to the ad hoc routing algorithm. The routing algorithm known as FLAME (Forwarding Layer for Meshing) uses in-band traffic to distribute the routing information instead of providing a separate routing protocol, which means that the routing information is delivered along with the user traffic. An ad hoc network having 4-node linear topology is formed to measure the throughput and the delay with respect to varying hops. The throughput reduces exponentially approximately by 60% for every hop increment. The delay increase approximately linearly for every hop increment. We have also compared the throughput and delay when the routing protocol is applied with those when it is not, to see how much the routing protocol deteriorates the performance for one hop link connection (since more than one hop connection always requires a routing protocol). The cause of the performance degradation for this specific routing protocol has been analyzed. We have enhanced the routing algorithm by changing the broadcast period based on the link usage and the delay has been reduced by 31% on average.

        Investigation on the electronic state of In-doped ZnO nanocrystals by hard X-ray photoemission spectroscopy

        ZnO:In nanocrystals (NCs) with various In contents were synthesized by using a mixed source vapor transportation method. The morphological variation and electronic structure of ZnO:In NCs were studied by bulk sensitive hard X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (HX-PES). ZnO:In NCs are classified into ZnOlike hexagonal and In2O3-like cubic groups, based on the crystal structure, and we have estimated the In content for the phase transformation to be as high as 35 atomic% (atm.%). A filled electronic state in the conduction band was observed from the ZnO-like group, which is regarded as a metallic state, due to an increase of extrinsic carrier density.       • An Experimental Mesh Network in A Campus

        In this paper, we introduce our experience with implementation of an ad hoc network. We have built a test bed for a wireless mesh network in Kyonggi University Suwon campus. The network covers a quarter of the whole campus area and for the time being the network will be configured linearly to measure and enhance the delay and throughput across a multihop connection. We hope this will be a experimental ground for a mesh network research.
