• 국내 부산물 다염화비폐닐(PCBs) 배출량 예비 평가

        김경미,조규탁,이지윤,이지은,이동수 한국환경독성학회 2004 환경독성보건학회지 Vol.19 No.2

The main objectives of this study were to identify from literature review the potential sources and to provide a preliminary national emission inventory for the unintentionally produced polychlorinated biphenyls(PCBs) (i.e., by-product PCBs). In Korea, fuel combustion, waste combustion, thermal industrial processes, and transportation were identified as potential sources of by-product PCBs. According to the availability of the emission factors and/or activity data, emission inventory could be assessed only for fuel combustion, waste combustion, steel industry, non-ferrous industry, and non-metallurgical industry. The total national emission of by-product PCBs was estimated to be 1087kg for the year 2000. The preliminary estimation further indicated that the steel manufacturing was the single dominant emission category, contributing 93% to the total emission. Of the steel manufacturing processes, the contribution of the electric are furnace was about 80% of the total emission. Due to high uncertainty associated with both the emission factors and activity statistics, the emission estimates in this study are likely to contain significant errors. However, the results of the present work could serve the first step toward future efforts to establish national source and emission inventories of by-product PCBs.

      • 십자형 점용접부의 피로강도 평가에 관한 연구

        최덕호,양경탁,김호경 서울産業大學校 2005 논문집 Vol.54 No.2

In this study, SPCC cross-tension type specimens produced under various welding conditions were tensile and fatigue tested. Decrease of 2 kA in normal current condition of 10 kA caused a large amount of reduction in both static joining strength and fatigue life. And 2 kA increase resulted in increase of static joining strength and an increase in low cycle regime but a decrease in high cycle regime, revealing the fact that fatigue strength rather than static joining strength would be a major factor during design process in view of the body endurance. As a results of estimating the fatigue lifetimes of various types of specimens, equivalent stress intensity factor is the proper parameter for predicting the lifetimes of various types of specimens, which can be expressed as ΔK_(eq) (N/mm^(1.5)) = 11550N_(f)^(-0.36)

      • The Quantitative Assessment of Risk Factors to Overstress at Adjacent Segments After Lumbar Fusion: Removal of Posterior Ligaments and Pedicle Screws

        Kim, Ho-Joong,Kang, Kyoung-Tak,Moon, Seong-Hwan,Chun, Heoung-Jae,Kim, Hak-Sun,Park, Jin-Oh,Moon, Eun-Su,Kim, Bo-Ram,Sohn, Joon-Seok,Lee, Hwan-Mo Lippincott Williams Wilkins, Inc. 2011 1528-1159) Vol.36 No.17

STUDY DESIGN.: Finite element method. OBJECTIVE.: To investigate the changes in the disc stress and range of motion (ROM) at adjacent segments after lumbar fusion based on whether or not pedicle screws are removed and whether or not the continuity of the proximal posterior ligament complex (PLC) is preserved. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA.: The ablation of proximal PLC continuity and the presence of pedicle screws have been reported to affect the biomechanics at adjacent segments after lumbar fusion. However, there have been few studies regarding the quantitative assessment of their contribution to overstress at adjacent segments after lumbar fusion. METHODS.: In the validated intact lumbar finite element model (L2–L5), four types of L3–L4 fusion models were simulated. These models included the preservation of the PLC continuity with pedicle screws (Pp WiP), the preservation of PLC continuity without pedicle screws (Pp WoP), the sacrifice of PLC with pedicle screws (Sp WiP), and the sacrifice of PLC without pedicle screws (Sp WoP). In each scenario, the ROM, maximal von Mises stress of discs, and the facet joint contract force at adjacent segments were analyzed. RESULTS.: Among the four models, the Sp WiP yielded the greatest increase in the ROM and the maximal von Mises stress of the disc at adjacent segments under four moments. Following the SP WiP, the order of increase of the ROM and the disc stress was Pp WiP, Sp WoP, and Pp WoP. Furthermore, the increase of ROM and disc stress at the proximal adjacent segment was more than at the distal adjacent segment under all four moments in each model. The facet joint contact was also most increased in the Sp WiP under extension and torsion moment. CONCLUSION.: The current study suggests that the preservation of the PLC continuity or the removal of pedicle screws after complete fusion could decrease the stress at adjacent segments, and their combination could act synergistically.

2 - Bromopropane 에 노출된 여성에서 집단적으로 발생한 원발성 난소 기능 부전증

        김철희,김기수,김효정,김영탁,고정민,신은석,조경식,윤길숙 대한내분비학회 1997 Endocrinology and metabolism Vol.12 No.2

Background: Primary ovarian failure is reportedly increasing in recent years. Environmental factors have been frequently implicated as responsible for this increase, However, only a few of the environmental factors have been proven to cause the ovarian failure in human. Methods: In June 1995, 24 female laborers, who worked in a factory which used Solvent #5200(with a main chemical component being 2-bromopropane), developed symptoms of amenorrhea or irregular menstruation. All subjects underwent laboratory tests including measure- ment of serum LH, FSH, and estradioL Magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasonography of the pelvis were performed in all subjects. Laparoscopic examination was performed in 6 out of 24 patients after obtaining informed consent and 4 of 6 underwent ovarian biopsy. Results: One subject was excluded because she had undergone hysterectomy previously. Among the remaining 23 subjects, 14 and 9 complained of amenorrhea and irregular menstrual periods, respectively. When we defined primary ovarian failure as FSH$gt;30mIU/mL, all of those 14 patients with amenorrhea could be classified as primary ovarian failure. On the other hand, those 9 patients with irregular menstruations had normal FSH levels. Pathologic examination of ovaries showed interstitial fibrosis, loss of primordial follicles, and development arrest of follicles in the group with amenorrhea, similar to what is found in those who received chemotherapy or were exposed to radiation. Conclusion: The female laborers who were exposed to the solvent with 2-bromopropane developed primary ovarian failure. This failure was associated with longer duration of exposure. To our knowledge, this is the first report in the world indicating 2-bromopropane as a possible agent for ovarian failure. (J Kor Soc Endocrinol 12:255-264, 1997)

      • Giant nonlinear response of terahertz nanoresonators on VO_2 thin film

        Kyoung, Jisoo,Seo, Minah,Park, Hyeongryeol,Koo, Sukmo,Kim, Hyun-sun,Park, Youngmi,Kim, Bong-Jun,Ahn, Kwangjun,Park, Namkyoo,Kim, Hyun-Tak,Kim, Dai-Sik The Optical Society 2010 Optics express Vol.18 No.16

We report on an order of magnitude enhanced nonlinear response of vanadium dioxide thin film patterned with nanoresonators - nano slot antennas fabricated on the gold film. Transmission of terahertz radiation, little affected by an optical pumping for the case of bulk thin film, can now be completely switched-off: DeltaT/T approximately -0.9999 by the same optical pumping power. This unprecedentedly large optical pump-terahertz probe nonlinearity originates from the insulator-to-metal phase transition drastically reducing the antenna cross sections of the nanoresonators. Our scheme enables nanoscale-thin film technology to be used for all-optical switching of long wavelength light.

Isolation and Culture Properties of a Thermophilic Agarase-Producing Strain, Microbulbifer sp. SD-1

        Kim, Do-Kyun,Jang, Yu-Ri,Kim, Kyoung-Hoon,Lee, Mi-Nan,Kim, A-Ra,Jo, Eun-Ji,Byun, Tae-Hwan,Jeong, Eun-Tak,Kwon, Hyun-Ju,Kim, Byung-Woo,Lee, Eun-Woo The Korean Society of Fisheries and Aquatic Scienc 2011 Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Vol.14 No.3

An agar-degrading enzyme-producing strain was isolated from seawater. The isolate was identified as Microbulbifer sp. SD-1 by 16S rRNA sequencing analysis. The optimal pH and temperature for growth were 6.0 and $30^{\circ}C$, respectively, and growth was possible at pH 9.0 and $60^{\circ}C$. The isolate required 5% NaCl for optimal growth and showed 45% growth activity without NaCl. Agar concentrations of 0-0.4% in the medium did not affect growth. Thin-layer chromatography analysis revealed that this strain could degrade agar into a monosaccharide and oligosaccharide, which may have industrial applications.

      • Poster Session:PS 0532 ; Nephrology : Serum Ferritin Level is an Independent Risk Factor for All-Cause Mortality in Incident Hemodialysis Patients

( Kyoung Sook Park ),( Hyung Jung Oh ),( Jung Tak Park ),( Seung Hyeok Han ),( Tae Hyun Yoo ),( Yong Lim Kim ),( Yon Su Kim ),( Chul Woo Yang ),( Nam Ho Kim ),( Shin Wook Kang ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.1

Background: Serum ferritin has been regarded as an indicator of infi ammation as well as a marker of body iron storage in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). In addition, high serum ferritin levels were significantly associated with poor clinical outcomes in prevalent dialysis patients. However, little is known about the prognostic impact of serum ferritin concentrations on the clinical outcome in incident hemodialysis (HD) patients. Methods: A prospective cohort of 939 incident HD patients from 36 dialysis centers of the Clinical Research Center for ESRD in Korea was selected for this study. Serum ferritin levels were measured at the time of HD initiation. Patients were divided into tertiles according to log ferritin concentrations; <2.17, 2.17-2.50, and >2.50 ng/mL. Cox proportional hazard analysis was performed to determine the independent prognostic value of serum ferritin levels for all-cause mortality. Results: The median ferritin concentrations were 217.8 (118.7-381.1) ng/mL. Pearson`s correlation analysis showed that log ferritin levels were positively correlated with white blood cell counts (r=0.108, P=0.001) and log C-reactive protein concentrations (r=0.151, P<0.001), while negatively associated with serum albumin levels (r=-0.116, P<0.001). During a median follow-up duration of 20.7 months, 85 (9.1%) patients died. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that all-cause mortality rates were signifi cantly higher in the highest tertile ferritin group compared to the lowest tertile group (P<0.001). Multivariate Cox proportional hazard analysis demonstrated that log ferritin was independently associated with an increase in all-cause mortality risk after adjustment for confounding variables (per 1 ng/mL increase, hazard ratio=2.62, 95% confi dence interval=1.45-4.73, P=0.001). Conclusions: Serum ferritin concentration was a signifi cant independent predictor of all-cause mortality in incident HD patients, suggesting that determining serum ferritin levels might be helpful to stratify mortality risk in these patients.

Relationship between the Retinal Thickness Analyzer and the GDx VCC Scanning Laser Polarimeter, Stratus OCT Optical Coherence Tomograph, and Heidelberg Retina Tomograph 2 Confocal Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscopy

( Kyoung Tak Ma ),( Sang Hyup Lee ),( Sa Min Hong ),( Kyoung Soo Park ),( Chan Yun Kim ),( Gong Je Seong ),( Young Jae Hong ) 대한안과학회 2008 Korean Journal of Ophthalmology Vol.22 No.1

Purpose: To assess the relationship between the retinal thickness analyzer (RTA) parameters, and those of the GDx VCC scanning laser polarimeter (GDx VCC), Stratus OCT optical coherence tomography (Stratus OCT), and Heidelberg retinal tomograph II confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (HRT II). Methods: Twenty-nine primary open-angle glaucoma patients were retrospectively included in this study. Measurements were obtained using the RTA, GDx VCC, Stratus OCT, and HRT II. We calculated the correlation coefficients between the parameters of RTA and those of the other studies. Results: Among the optic disc parameters of RTA, the cup volume was best correlated with Stratus OCT (R=0.780, p<0.001) and HRT II (R=0.896, p<0.001). Among the posterior pole retinal thickness parameters, the posterior pole abnormally thin area (PPAT) of the RTA and the inferior average of the GDx VCC were best correlated (R=-0.596, p=0.001). The PPAT of the RTA and the inferior maximum of the Stratus OCT were best correlated (R=-0.489, p=0.006). The perifoveal minimum thickness (PFMT) of the RTA and the cup shape measurement of the HRT II were best correlated (R=-0.565, p=0.004). Conclusions: Many RTA optic disc parameters were significantly correlated with those of the Stratus OCT and HRT II. The RTA posterior pole retinal thickness parameters were significantly correlated with those of the GDx VCC, Stratus OCT and HRT II. The RTA optic disc and posterior pole retinal thickness parameters may be valuable in the diagnosis of glaucoma. Korean Journal of Ophthalmology 22(1):10-17, 2008
