        Rhabdomyolysis is a syndrome characterized by muscle necrosis and release of intracellular muscle constituents into the circulation. The spectrum of causes is quite broad and included disorders of traumatic, metabolic, infectious and toxic origin. However, rhabdomvolvsis and acute renal failure following bee sting is rare and its pathogenesis is not well known. We experienced a case of 63-year-old man with acute renal failure and rhabdomyolysis caused by bee sting. He was stung by bee on scalp and neck. Oliguria was developed within several hours. He has fully recovered after general supportive care including fluid therapy and diuretics. This case demonstrates that rhabdomvolysis with consequent acute renal failure are able to developed by bee sting.

        To find elements which enable improving Quality of image of chest radiography, we attempted to make comparison between chest radiography used currently with that of the past, and following conclusion was reached: 1) It could be confirmed that a dependance on chest radiography was declining, because proportion of chest radiography against overall radiography decreased. 2) There was a change of kVp to a high voltage in a chest radiography, and use of high kVp became a generalization 3) Exposure time was reduced and exposure dose was curtailed accordingly. 4) Apparatus was mainly comprised of 3-phase rectifier circuit and inverter type. 5) It could be confirmed that frequency of applying additional filters for high kVp radiography was insufficient. 6) There was almost no difference in the condition of exposure between hospitals using film/screen and hospitals using CR. But when CR is used for radiography, it was increase in exposure dose due to increase in tube current and it will be necessary to have continuous study on exposure dose by an increase use of CR in the future.

      • <i>Canavalia gladiata</i> and <i>Arctium lappa</i> extracts ameliorate dextran sulphate sodium-induced inflammatory bowel disease by enhancing immune responses

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P> <I>Canavalia gladiata</I> (<I>C. gladiata</I>) and <I>Arctium lappa</I> (<I>A. lappa</I>), used in traditional medicine and food. However, their preventive effects in dextran sulphate sodium (DSS)-induced inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) remain unclear. We found that the <I>C. gladiata</I> and <I>A. lappa</I> mixture suppressed inflammation in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells. The mixture increased the population and activation of immune cells, up-regulation of cell cycle, and induction of IgA and IgG production in wild-type mice. Furthermore, the extract mixture prevented clinical IBD symptoms and restored IgA production in IBD mice. Similarly, a mixture of the marker compounds, chicoric acid and lupeol, ameliorated IBD-associated clinical signs, improved the population and activation of immune cells and functional defects in natural killer (NK) cells and reduced production of IgA in these mice. In conclusion, the <I>C. gladiata</I> and <I>A. lappa</I> mixture ameliorated progression of DSS-induced IBD by enhancing immune responses and recovering functional immune cell defects.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> <I>C. gladiata</I> and <I>A. lappa</I>, and their mixture had an anti-inflammation activity. </LI> <LI> <I>C. gladiata</I> and <I>A. lappa</I> and their mixture enhanced immune response in WT. </LI> <LI> Mixture of <I>C. gladiate</I> and <I>A. lappa</I>, can provide benefit in DSS-induced IBD models. </LI> <LI> The marker compounds can restore functional defect in DSS-induced IBD models. </LI> </UL> </P>

        What Kind of Job Characteristics are Important for Improving Students’ Competencies in Co-op Education : KoreaTech IPP Case

        The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of on-site training environments and goals on learning outcomes of trainees. For this purpose, the study analyzed survey data collected from 752 students who participated in KOREATECH’s Industry Profes­sional Practice (IPP) on-site training program from 2017 to 2018. The following summarizes some important findings from the study results: First, on examining whether the effect of job characteristics on the academic competencies differs according to the character­istics of the group, it was found that the factors that affect the whole group were job content, coaching, and welfare benefits, but the effect of job scope was statistically significant. Second, on examining whether the effect of job characteristics on job competencies differs according to the characteristics of the group, it was found that the factors that affect the whole group were job content, coach­ing, and job scope, but the effect of welfare was statistically significant. Analyzing by training goals, it was found that the major influencers were job content in the Recruitment-intended group; and job content, coaching and job scope in the Training-intended group. Based on the results, the implications of the study and follow-up studies are suggested.

        Tungtungmadic Acid, a Novel Antioxidant, from Salicornia her-bacea

        Tungtungmadic acid (3-caffeoyl-4-dihydrocaffeoyl quinic acid) is a new chlorogenic acid derivative that was isolated from the Salicomia herbacea. The structure of tungtungmadic acid was determined using chemical and spectral analysis. The antioxidant activity of tungtungmadic acid was evaluated using various antioxidant assays, including free radical scavenging, lipid peroxidation and hydroxyl radical-induced DNA strand breaks assays. Tungtungmadic acid ($IC_{50}\;=\;5.1\;{\mu}M\;and\;9.3\;{\mu}M$) was found to have higher antioxidant activity in the DPPH scavenging assay as well as in the iron-induced liver microsomal lipid peroxidation system. In addition, the tungtungmadic acid was also effective in protecting the plasmid DNA against strand breakage induced by hydroxyl radicals.

        자궁경부암 조기 검진 캠페인의 설득 효과에 관한 연구

        본 논문은 자궁경부암 조기검진 캠페인에 영향을 미치는 낙관적 편견의 매개효과 및 조절효과를 알아보기 위한 것이다. 자궁경부암은 다른 암과는 달리 조기검진과 치료를 하면 예방과 완치가 가능한 질병이다. 그러나 젊은 여성들의 경우 자궁경부암에 대한 인식부족 및 조기검진 회피 등으로 발병률이 증가하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 국내 여대생들을 대상으로 자궁경부암에 대한 낙관적 편견 및 자아존중감, 통제 가능성, 관여도, 지식, 위험인식, 예방태도, 예방 행동의향 등이 낙관적 편견에 어떠한 영향을 주고받는 지를 알아보고자 했다. 분석결과 국내 여대생의 경우 자궁경부암에 대한 낙관적 편견이 존재하는 것이 밝혀졌다. 또한 자아존중감, 통제가능성, 관여도, 지식이 높을수록 낙관적 편견이 낮아지고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 뿐만 아니라 낙관적 편견은 자아존중감과 태도, 지식과 태도, 지식과 행동의향 간에 유의한 매개 변수로 작용하고 있었다. The study attempts to find out effects of optimistic bias on early medical check-up of cervical cancer campaign. Unlike other cancers, cervical cancer is curable disease if early medical check-up and treatment have been done. However, young females are not well aware of cervical cancer and shun early medical check-up. As a result, outbreak rate of cervical cancer has been increased. This study examines the relationships between optimistic bias on cervical cancer and self-efficacy, controllability, involvement, risk perception, preventive attitude, preventive behavioral intention. Female college students have been found to have optimistic bias on cervical cancer. As self-efficacy, controllability, and involvement increase, optimistic bias decreases. In addition, optimistic bias has been found to be a significant mediating variable between self-efficacy and preventive attitude, knowledge and attitude, knowledge and preventive behavioral intention.

        Paenibacillus jamilae BRC15-1의 Cellulase 생산 최적화

        In this study was selected the cellulolytic microorganism and investigated optimum condition of cellulase production for the cellulosic bioethanol production. A bacterial strain Paenibacillus jamilae BRC15-1, was isolated from soil of domestic reclaimed land. For optimizing cellulase production from the selected strain, various culture parameters were investigated such as culture medium, pH (pH 4~10), temperature (25~50℃) and culture time (2~72 h). As a result, P. jamilae BRC15-1 efficiently produced cellulase from cellulosic biomass under following conditions: 24 h of culture time (pH 7, 40℃) in manufactured media of CMC (carboxymethyl cellulose) with peptone. Optimum saccharifying condition of crude enzyme produced from P. jamilae BRC15-1 was identified on pH 6 and 40℃ of reaction temperature, respectively. This crude enzyme from P. jamilae BRC15-1 was used for saccharification of pretreated sweet sorghum (Sorghum bicolor var. dulciusculum Ohwi) bagasse under the optimal condition. Finally, pretreated sweet sorghum bagasse including 0.1 g of glucan was saccharified by crude enzyme of P. jamilae BRC15-1 into 2.75 mg glucose, 0.79 mg xylose and 1.12 mg arabinose.

        종양이식 생쥐모델에서 도두(刀豆), 우방근(牛蒡根) 추출물의 대장암 억제 효과

        Objective : In the present study, we examined whether Canavalia gladiata D.C. (CG) and Arctium lappa L., Redix (AL) mixture (CGAL), their components, lupeol and chicoric acid, regulate immune system and suppress the tumor in vitro and in vivo. Methods : LPS-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO) were measured after treatment with CG extract (CGE), CGAL, lupeol, chicoric acid and lupeol and chicoric acid mixture (lupeol+CA) in Raw264.7 cell. To determine the effect of CGE on immune responses, immune cell population and IgG production were assessed in mice. To investigate the effect of CGAL and their component on anti-tumor activity, tumor volume and weight were measured, cell cycles and immune cell population were analyzed in MC38 injected tumor bearing mice. Also, NK cell activity was determined in splenocyte isolated from tumor bearing mice. Results : CGE, CGAL, lupeol, chicoric acid and lupeol+CA decreased the LPS-induced ROS and NO production without cell toxicity in RAW264.7 cells. CGE increased the immune cell populations of $CD4^+T$, $CD8^+T$ and macrophages in various immune organ of mice. In tumor bearing mice, CGAL, lupeol, chicoric acid and lupeol+CA suppressed tumor volume and weight. In cell cycle analysis, they decreased the percentages of S phase. In addition, CGAL, lupeol, chicoric acid and lupeol+CA immune cell populations of $CD4^+T$, $CD8^+Tcell$, NK cell and macrophage in tumor as well as NK cell activity. Conclusion : CGAL and its compounds may enhance immune responses and suppress tumor growth, and may be capable of developing health functional foods.
