Background and Purposes: Over the past three decades, numerous studies performed in Korea have reported that job stress is a determinant risk factor for chronic diseases and work disability. Every society has its own culture and occupational climate particular to their organizations, and hence experiences different occupational stress. An occupational stress measurement tool therefore needs to be developed to estimate it objectively. The purpose of this study is to develop and standardize the Korean Occupational Stress Scale (KOSS) which is considered to be unique and specific occupational stressors in Korean employees. Subjects and Methods: Data were obtained from the National Study for Development and Standardization of Occupational Stress (NSDSOS Project: 2002-2004). A total of 12,631 employees from a nationwide sample proportional to the Korean Standard Industrial Classification and the Korean Standard Occupational Classification were administered. The KOSS was developed for 2 years (2002-2004). In the first year, we collected 255 items from the most popular job stress measurement tools such as JCQ, ERI, NIOSH and OSI, and 44 items derived from the a qualitative study (depth interview). Forty-three items of KOSS, in the second year, were retained for use in the final version of the KOSS by using Delphi and factor analysis. Items were scored using conventional 1-2-3-4 Likert scores for the response categories. Results: We developed eight subscales by using factor analysis and validation process: physical environment (3 items), job demand (8 items), insufficient job control (5 items), interpersonal conflict (4 items), job insecurity (6 items), organizational system (7 items), lack of reward (6 items), and occupational climate (4 items). Together they explained 50.0% of total variance. Internal consistency alpha scores were ranged from 0.51 to 0.82. Twenty-four items of the short form of the KOSS (KOSS-SF) were also developed to estimate job stress in the work setting. Because the levels of the subscales of occupational stress were gender dependent, gender-specific standard norms for both the 43-item full version and the 24-item short form using a quartile for the subscales of KOSS were presented. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that KOSS might be an appropriate measurement scale to estimate occupational stress of Korean employees. Further and more detailed study needs to be conducted to improve the validity of this scale.

To develop a clotrimazole-loaded solid suppository with poloxamer and propylene glycol, the melting points of various formulations composed of poloxamer 188 (P 188) and propylene glycol were investigated. The dissolution study of clotrimazole delivered by the suppository composed of P 188 and propylene glycol was performed. The mixtures composed of P 188 and propylene glycol were homogeneous. Propylene glycol affected the melting points of poloxamer mixtures. In particular, the mixture [P 188/propylene glycol (70/30%)] with the melting point of about 32°C was a solid form at room temperature and instantly melted at physiological temperature. Furthermore, propylene glycol affected greatly the dissolution rates of clotrimazole from the suppository. Dissolution mechanism analysis showed the dissolution of clotrimazole was proportional to the time. Our results indicated that the solid suppository with P 188 and propylene glycol would be a candidate of rectal dosage form for clotrimazole.

To develop and aceclofenac soft capsule, four preparations with various solubilizers were prepared and their dissolution test was carried out. Among four preparations tested, a preparation with ethanolamine was selected a formula of aceclofenac soft capsule (Clanza S^(™), since it showed the fastest dissolution rate. Bioequivalence of aceclofenac tablet, Airtal^(™)(Dae-Woong Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.) and aceclofenac soft capsule, Clanza S^(™)(Korea United Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.) was evaluated according to the guideline of KFDA. Fourteen normal male volunteers (age 20-25 years old) were divided into two groups and a randomized 2×2 cross-over study was employed. After oral administration of one tablet or capsule containing 100 ㎎ of aceclofenac, blood ws taken at predetermined time intervals and the concentration of aceclofenac in plasma wa determined with an HPLC method under UV detector. The pharmacokinetic parameters (C_(max), T_(max) and AUC_(t)) were calculated and ANOVA was utilized for the statistical analysis of parameters using logarithmically transformed AUC_(t), C_(max) and T_(max) between Airtal tablet and Clanza soft capsule were 2.89%, 0.18% and 43.0%, respectively. There were no sequence effects between two formulations in these parameters. The 90% confidence intervals using logarithmically transformed data were within the acceptance range of log(0.8) to log(1.250(e.g.log(0.81) - log(1.23) and log(0.89) - log(1.14)) for AUC_(t) and C_(max), respectively. Thus, the criteria of the KDFA guidelines for the equivalence was satisfied, indicating that Clanza S^(™) soft capsule is bioequivalent to Airtal^(™) tablet.

본 논문은 국제 전기 통신연합(ITU)이 온실가스 감축을 고려하여 실시한 온라인 국제 화상회의를 통하여 감축된 CO2량을 오프라인으로 수행되었다고 가정한 경우와 비교하여 산출하였다. 국제전기통신연합(ITU)이 주관하여 2009년 9월 서울에서 실시된 "The Power of ICTs to save The planet" 심포지엄은 CO2 배출 저감을 위하여 참가자들이 온라인을 통하여 원격으로 회의에 참석하도록 권유되었다. 원격 화상회의를 유도한 결과, 해외 참가자 46명과 국내 참가자 170명 중 16명이 원격 화상회의로 참석하였는데 이것은 약 94.7ton의 CO2 배출량 저감에 해당되는 것으로 산출되었다. 이번 국제 심포지엄은 탄소 저감차원에서 온라인과 오프라인으로 병행 실시되어 큰 이슈가 된 국제적인 첫 시도로서, 이러한 ITU의 움직임은 향후 다른 국제 심포지엄과 포럼 개최에 큰 영향을 미칠 것으로 판단된다. In this paper, the reduction amount of CO2 due to the virtual international video-conference organized by ITU in order to reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) is calculated. The comparison is made with the case of off-line conference. In the symposium organized by ITU, "The power of ICTs to save The planet", held on September 2009 the participants were highly encouraged to attend the symposium through video-conferencing for the reduction of GHG. As a result, 46 foreign participants and 16 among 170 domestic participants have attended at virtual video-conference, which resulted in about 94.7 ton of CO2 emission reduction. This international symposium firstly tried in conjunction with online and off-line has drawn a big attention in the aspect of global warming. Definitely such ITU's trial will make significant impacts on the holding of other international symposiums and forums.

S-adenosyl-L-methionine(SAM)은 생체 메칠화 반응에 긴요한 기질이다. 이 논문은 효모 발효에 의한 SAM의 실험실 규모 생산의 최적조건을 다시 검토한 것이다. 발효 배지는 메치오닌을 첨가했으며 배양조건들을 재조절하였다. 분리과정은 추출, 앙금 및 크로마토그래피를 포함한 다섯단계로 이루어졌다. 이 향상된 과정은 원래 방법보다 비교적 높은 생산 수득률로 생활성있는 SAM을 4일 이내에 제공해준다. S-adenosyl-L-methionine(SAM) is essential substrate for biological methylation reactions. The present work describes a reoptimized procedure of SAM preparation in laboratory scale by the method of yeast fermentation. The fermentation medium enriched with methionine and the culture conditions were reoptimized. The isolation steps consisted of 5 steps including extractions, precipitations, and chromatography. This improved procedure over original method provides relatively high yield of biologically active product within a 4 day-period.
