        In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

        Seed sowing is the major method for the establishment of cool-season grasses at the soccer fields, golf courses, etc. Germination speed of kentucky bluegrass(Poa prantensis L.: KB) is much slower than the other cool-season grasses. This study was conducted to solve the problems at the early stage of establishment with KB. The best priming conditions of KB, drying method after soaking in the water, and covering materials will be selected. To reduce irrigation frequency and quantity for seed germination, seeds of KB were exposed to the different soaking temperature(4, 20, 25, 30℃). soaking durations(3, 6, 10, 13, 19, 23 days), storage periods(3, 6, 9 days), storage humidities(30, 50, 100%), shading rate(0, 50, 100%), drying methods(dry in the air, heating, mix soaked seed with profile=1:2), and covering materials(70% shade net, fiber net). The optimum soaking temperature and duration for the seed priming of KB were 20℃ and 10 days, respectively. The optimum storage period and humidity were 3 days and 100%, respectively, Under 50% shading, germination rate was the highest. In drying method after soaking, mixture of seeds and profile(1:2) was optimum for sowing. Using the thin fiber net as covering material after sowing was good for not moving seeds and improved germination speed and rate.

      • 폐흡충에 의한 무균성 노흉에 대한 돼지꼬리형 도관(pig-tail catheter)을 이용한 치료의 효과

        Background: Pulmonary paragonimiasis is caused by consumption of raw or improperlycooked crustacea infected with the laval stage (metacercaria) of Paragonimus westermani. The most characteristic symptoms were rust-colored sputum and cough. Paragonimiasis causes pleural thickening or effusion in 48% of the patients. Pleuro-pulmonary paragonimiasis can be easily overlooked by physicians who do not suspect this disease in the differential diagnosis. Method: We compared the outcomes of 11 patients with paragonimus empyema managed either through thoracotomy or pig-tail catheter drain. These patients were confirmed by food history, clinical and radiological findings, and laboratory data. Results: The male and female ratio was 1.75 : 1, and mean age was 40.0 ± 13.5 years. AII patients had pulmonary symptoms such as cough or chest pain. Serum-ELISA for paragonimiasis were all positive (mean titer was 0.57). AII patients had pleural effusion in radiological findings( 2 patients had bilateral pleural effusion). All patients received praziquantel (75 ㎎/㎏/day for 3days). Two patients were treated with thoracotomy and nine patients were treated with pig-tail drain. Hospital stay were 14.5 days in thoracotomy group and 5.6 days in pig-tail group respectively, Conclusion: Compared to the conventional thoracotomy grouP, the patients with paragonimus empyema who received pig-tail catheters had a significantly-decreased period of drain in situ, were clinically improved earlier, and were discharged earlier.

      • PLD 박막의 물리적 성질

        Thin amorphous carbon films were deposited by a Q-switched Nd;YAG 532nm with beam power density of ?? on the high purity graphite (99.7%). The pressure of vacuum chamber was ?? Torr. In order to estimate the quality of the Pulsed Laser Deposition films one of the most important optical properties, bandgap energy, was characterized by transmission and reflection in the range of the visible, and an optical direct bandgap energy of 2.45eV and indirect bandgap energy 0.36eV were obtained. Surface morphology of amorphous film was investigated by AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy). Its surface roughness is 70nm. Comparing our results with the published values in the literature we have confidence that our films show the good quality for optical properties.

        수종보익제가 면역세포의 조절 및 Apoptosis에 미치는 영향

        The effects of several tonifying prescriptions on the apoptosis of transplanted L1210 cells and the regulation of immune cells in L1210-transplanted mice were studied. Sa-Mul-Tang(SMT), Sa-Kunja-Tang(SKT), Sipjeon-Daebo-Tang(SDT) accelerated the apoptosis of transplanted L1210 cells, and SMT and SKT reduced the mitochondrial transmembrane potential of transplanted L1210 cells. SMT promoted the proliferation of thymocytes and splenocytes in L1210-transplanted mice. Whereas SMT increased CD8+ T_c/T_S cell, Bojung-Ikki-Tang(BIT) decreased CD4+ T_H cell population in the thymocytes of L1210-transplanted mice. SMT and SKT increased the lucigenin chemiluminescence from peritoneal macrophage of L1210-transplanted mice. These results indicate that SMT and SKT have an inductive action of apoptosis of transplanted L1210 cells and peritoneal macrophage activation.

        가압유동층연소로에서 국내무연탄의 황산화물 배출특성

        본 연구는 가압유동충연소로에서 국내 무연탄을 연소함에 있어서 SO_2 배출농도에 대하여 고찰하였다. Bench scale PFBC에서 석탁을 연소하는 동안에 탈황제로 식회석을 사용하였으며, 배가스의 배출특성을 조사함에 있어서 SO_2의 제어에 주안점을 두었다. 석탁은 강원도 태백지역에서 채탄된 무연탄이고, 석회석은 강원도 삼척지역에서 얻은 것이다. 실험장치는 층 직경 0.17m, freeboard 직경 0.25m이고, 총 높이가 5m로 이루어졌다. 실험은 운전압력(1-6 atm), 운전온도(850-950℃), 과잉공기(10-30%), Ca/S 몰비(0.8-4.8)의 조건으로 수행하였다. 결과적으로 최대 탈황율을 보인 층(bed)온도는 1, 2 기압일 때 850℃, 4 기압일때 900℃, 6 기압일 때 950℃로 나타났다. 또 탈황율은 모든 실험조건에서 운전압력, Ca/s 몰비, 과잉공기가 증가함에 따라 증가하였다. 국내무연탄의 가압유동충연소시 안정적인 SO_2의 배출을 위하여 각각의 운전압력에서 적정한 Ca/S 몰비는 2 기압 이하일때 Ca/S≥4.8, 4기압일 때 Ca/S=4.8, 6 기압 이상일때 Ca/S≤4.8를 보였다. This study was to investigate the SO_2 emission with Korean anthracite in a PFBC (Pressurized Fluidized Bed Combustor). This work focuses on the control of SO_2, one of the severe air pollutants in flue gas, emission characteristics by injecting sorbent during the combustion of coal in a bench scale PFBC. The coal and limestone used in this work were Taeback anthracite and Samchuck limestone, respectively, in Korea. The effects of operation parameters such as pressure (1-6 atm), bed temperature (850-950℃), excess air ratio(10-30%), and Ca/S mole(0.8-4.8) on desulfurization was investigated in PFBC(0.17m of bed diamether, 0.25m of freeboard diameter and 5.0m height). The bed temperature showing maximum sulfur capture increased from 850℃ at 1 and 2 atm. to 950℃ at 6 atm. with 10% of excess air ratio. Sulfur capture increased as excess air ratio increased at all experimental condition. Both the sulfur capture and the temperature showing maximum sulfur capture increased as operation pressure increased. It was recognized that Ca/S mole ratio higher than 4.8 was needed below 2 atm. and lower Ca/S mole ratio than 4.8 was needed at 4 and 6 atm. for the stable SO_2 emission in combustion of Korean anthracite.

        DAF에서 압력에 따른 미세기포의 크기특성

        Although DAF (Dissolved Air Rotation) has been successfully accepted for water and wastewater treatment, the fundamental characteristics of the process have not been fully investigated. According to recent theoretical work on DAF, bubble size is one of the most important factors that affect the DAF efficiency. It is well known that the size of bubbles in DAF is mostly affected by applied pressure. In this study, a newly developed Particle Counter Method (PCM) is introduced and compared with image analysis and verified. Using this PCM, the size of bubbles in DAF is measured under various pressure conditions from 2-6atm. Through a set of experiments, it was found that bubble size decreases as the pressure increases up to 3.5atm. This is a critical pressure after which bubble size does not decrease. According to the experimental results, it is not only costly but also unnecessary to maintain pressure more than 3.5atm if the goal is only to generate smaller bubbles for better removal efficiency in DAF operational practice.

        DOC의 K-7 Mode에 의한 배기가스 저감에 관한 연구

        With the significant growth of the number of vehicles, environmental problems is raised. NOx, SOx, and PM emissions in diesel powered vehicles are larger than that in gasoline, because the development of pollutants reduction techniques has no: been yet achieved. So it is need to develop after-treatment or to convert into alternative fuel to satisfy emission regula-tion. Among the after-treatment systems to reduce the diesel emissions, studies with diesel oxidation catalyst(DOC) are done greatly. In this study using DOC, reduction efficiency with the change of temperature and catalyst loading was calculated through measurements of CO, HC, PM, and SOx.

      • 형질전환 조류 생산에 관한 연구

        Embryonic germ (EG) cell lines established from primordial germ cells (PGCs) are undifferentiated and pluripotent stem cells. To date, EG cells with proven germ-line transmission have been completely established only in the mouse with embryonic stem (ES) cells. PGCs from 5.5-day-old (stage 28) chicken embryonic gonads were isolated and established a putative chicken EG cell line with EG culture medium supplemented with several growth factors. These cells grew continuously for 10 passages (4 months) on a feeder layer of mitotically active chicken embryonic fibroblasts. After several passages, these cells were characterized by screening with the Periodic acid-Shiff's reaction, anti-SSEA-1 antibody, and a proliferation assay. The chicken EG cells successfully formed an embryoid body and differentiated into a variety of cell types. The chicken EG cells were injected into stage X blastodermal layer and produced chimeric chickens with various differentiated tissues derived from the EG cells. Chicken EG cells will be useful for the production of transgenic chickens and for studies of germ cell differentiation and genomic imprinting. We also could produce the germline chimeras using long-term cultured gPGCs without passages. It would be promising strategy to produce transgenic poultry for the improvement of economic traits in livestock.

        This paper presents a tunable filter that can be used in front stage of UWB receiver operating under 2GHz frequency range. It presents the optimum design method of comb-line structure tunable filter keeping the fixed bandwidth and attenuation characteristic in the tunable frequency range. This filter is implemented by applying a tunable capacitor, obtained by reverse-biased varactor diode, to a capacitor used in SIR structure. As a result of tunable filter measurement, the center frequency was little moved down. Its bandwidth was almost corresponded with the result of a simulation but did not meet the given 100MHz bandwidth.
