        Electronic Pole-Changing Strategy with Cosine-Response for Multiphase Induction Motor Based on PR Controller

        The multiphase induction motor (MIM) suff ers the problems of unsmoothness and slow dynamic response during the process of electronic pole-changing. To solve this issue, a cosine-response strategy based on proportional resonance (PR) current controller is proposed. Firstly, a current switching strategy with cosine-response is designed, which makes the MIM work more smoothly while switching between two planes. Then, the PR controller based on static coordinate system is adopted to replace the traditional proportional integral current loop controller, which realizes the zero steady-state error tracking of the current and improves MIM’s dynamic response. Experiments on a fi ve-phase induction motor verify that the proposed strategy can reduce the fl uctuations of the torque, speed, and total harmonic distortion of phase current. Besides, it can improve the dynamic response of the torque and speed when the pole-changing is switched.

      • Multi-granulation rough set: from crisp to fuzzy case

        Multi–granulation is an improvement of the classical rough set theory since it uses a family of binary relations instead of of a single indiscernibility relation for the constructing of approximation. In this paper, the multi–granulation rough set approach is further generalized into fuzzy environment. A family of fuzzy $T$–similarity relations are used to define the optimistic and pessimistic fuzzy rough sets respectively. The basic properties about these fuzzy rough sets are then discussed. Finally, the relationships among single relation based fuzzy rough set, optimistic and pessimistic multi–granulation fuzzy rough sets are addressed.

        Bone Morphogenetic Protein 9 Overexpression Reduces Osteosarcoma Cell Migration and Invasion

        Transforming growth factor- (TGF-) is known to pro-mote tumor migration and invasion. Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are members of the TGF- family expressed in a variety of human carcinoma cell lines. The role of bone morphogenetic protein 9 (BMP9), the most powerful osteogenic factor, in osteosarcoma (OS) progression has not been fully clarified. The expression of BMP9 and its receptors in OS cell lines was analyzed by RT-PCR. We found that BMP9 and its receptors were expressed in OS cell lines. We further investigated the influence of BMP9 on the biological behaviors of OS cells. BMP9 overexpression in the OS cell lines 143B and MG63 inhibited in vitro cell migration and invasion. We further investigated the ex-pression of a panel of cancer-related genes and found that BMP9 overexpression increased the phosphorylation of Smad1/5/8 proteins, increased the expression of ID1, and reduced the expression and activity of matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) in OS cells. BMP9 silencing induced the opposite effects. We also found that BMP9 may not affect the chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 12 (CXCL12)/C-X-C chemokine receptor type 4 (CXCR4) axis to regulate the invasiveness and metastatic capacity of OS cells. Interestingly, CXCR4 was expressed in both 143B and MG63 cells, while CXCL12 was only detected in MG63 cells. Taken together, we hypothesize that BMP9 inhibits the migration and invasiveness of OS cells through a Smad-dependent pathway by downregulating the expression and activity of MMP9.

        Hematopoietic Reconstitution of CD34+ Cells Derived from Short-term Cultured Cord Blood Mononuclear Cells

        Ex vivo expansion of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) is very important for clinical applications of cord blood (CB). With the aim to find proper culture duration for ex vivo expansion, mononuclear cells (MNC) was applied as starting culture cells to expand HSCs and the repopulating potential of seven-day and fourteen-day cultured CD34+ cells were compared. The average expansion of total cells and CD34+ cells cultured for 7 days were higher than those cultured for 14 days. The results of phenotypic analysis of fresh and cultured cells showed that the percentage of CD3+ cells declined and the percentage of CD33+ cells increased during culture. The engraftment levels of fourteen-day cultured CD34+ cells were higher than those of fresh and seven-day cultured CD34+ cells. Fourteen-day cultured CD34+ cells also showed better multilineage reconstitution ability than fresh and seven-day cultured CD34+ cells. The results of the present study demonstrated that prolonged culture could preserve the hematopoietic reconstitution ability of ex vivo cultured CB cells and improve the engraftment level in NOD/SCID mice.

        Miscibility, Crystallization Behaviors and Toughening Mechanism of Poly(butylene terephthalate)/Thermoplastic Polyurethane Blends

        Blends of poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT)/thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) were prepared by melt compounding. The miscibility, crystallization behaviors and toughening mechanism of the PBT/TPU blends were studied. Dynamic mechanical analysis results demonstrated that PBT was immiscible with TPU. Differential scanning calorimetry and wide angle X-ray diffraction results showed that the crystallinity of PBT decreased with increasing TPU content. Furthermore, blending with TPU did not modify the crystal structure of PBT. The small angle X-ray scattering resultsindicated that the crystal layer thickness decreased and the amorphous layer thickness increased with increasing TPU content, indicating that TPU mainly resided in the interlamellar region of PBT spherulites in the blends. An obvious improvement in toughness of PBT was achieved with addition of TPU. Neat PBT had elongation at break and impact strength of about 15 %and 2.9 kJ/m2, respectively. However, the elongation at break and impact strength of the 70/30 PBT/TPU blend reached 410 % and 62.9 kJ/m2, respectively. The morphology of the PBT/TPU blends after tensile and impact tests was investigated, and the corresponding toughening mechanism is discussed. It was found that the PBT showed obvious shear yielding in theblend during the tensile and impact tests, which induced dissipation of energy and, therefore, led to the improvement in toughness of the PBT/TPU blends.

        Identification of determinants that mediate binding between Tembusu virus and the cellular receptor heat shock protein A9

        Heat shock protein A9 (HSPA9), a member of the heat shock protein family, is a putative receptor for Tembusu virus (TMUV). By using Western blot and co-immunoprecipitation assays, E protein domains I and II were identified as the functional domains that facilitate HSPA9 binding. Twenty-five overlapping peptides covering domain I and domain II sequences were synthesized and analyzed by using an HSPA9 binding assay. Two peptides showed the capability of binding to HSPA9. Dot blot assay of truncated peptides indicated that amino acid residues 19 to 22 and 245 to 252 of E protein constitute the minimal motifs required for TMUV binding to HSPA9. Importantly, peptides harboring those two minimal motifs could effectively inhibit TMUV infection. Our results provide insight into TMUV–receptor interaction, thereby creating opportunities for elucidating the mechanism of TMUV entry.

        The Influence of Epoxy Functionalized Acrylate Particles on the Properties of Plasticized PLA Blown Films

        Polylactide (PLA) was plasticized with poly(diethylene glycol adipate) (PDEGA). The plasticized PLA was further blended with core-shell structured particles of glycidyl methacrylate-functionalized methyl methacrylate-butyl acrylate copolymer (GACR) using a twin-screw extruder, and the extruded samples were blown using the blown thin film technique. Both PDEGA and GACR significantly influenced the physical properties of the films. Compared to neat PLA, the elongation at break and tear strength of the films were significantly improved. The shear yielding induced by cavitation of GACR particles was the major tearing mechanism. GACR could act as a tear resistance modifier for PLA blown films. The spherulite size of the PLA/PDEGA/GACR films decreased with the addition of GACR. The biodegradability of the PLA/PDEGA/GACR films decreased slightly. These findings contributed new knowledge to the additive area and gave important implications for designing and manufacturing polymer packaging materials.

        Effect of glycidyl methacrylate-grafted poly(ethylene octene) on the compatibility in PLA/PBAT blends and films

        A series of poly(lactic acid) (PLA), poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) and glycidyl methacrylate- grafted poly(ethylene octene) (GPOE) blends and films with different GPOE content were prepared by melt blending and blowing film technique. The effect of GPOE on the rheological behavior, melt strength, crystallization behavior, crystallization morphology, miscibility, mechanical property, phase morphology, thermal stability and water vapor permeability were studied. The addition of GPOE improved melt rheological properties. Results of DSC showed that addition of GPOE encouraged the mobility of PLA molecular chains and enhanced crystalline ability. POM observations revealed that the addition of GPOE made the density of spherulite nucleation increase and the size of crystalline particles decrease. From DMA and SEM analysis, it was demonstrated that PLA/PBAT blend was an immiscible system and GPOE in the blend could improve compatibility between PLA and PBAT. Results of mechanical test showed that the PLA/PBAT/GPOE blends and films obtained had excellent mechanical properties. The elongation at break of 50/30/ 20 w/w/w PLA/PBAT/GPOE blend (477%) was higher by about 2.2 times than that of 70/30/0 w/w/w PLA/PBAT/ GPOE blend (220%). The tensile strength of all the PLA/PBAT/GPOE blends exceeded 31 MPa. The tensile strength reached 32.9MPa (MD) and 22.5MPa (TD), the elongation at break exceeded 210% and tear strength exceeded 140 kN/m for 50/30/20 w/w/w PLA/PBAT/GPOE film. With increasing GPOE content, thermal stability and water vapor barrier property also improved.

        Rice Protein Exerts Endogenous Antioxidant Capacity via Methionine Sulfoxide Reductase and the Nrf2 Antioxidant System Independent of Age

        The major aim of this study was to investigate the effect of rice protein (RP) on the activation of endogenous antioxidant defense in growing and adult rats. After 2 weeks, RP activated nuclear factor erythroid 2 (NF-E2)-related factor 2 (Nrf2) by suppressing Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1) and Cullin 3 (Cul3) in growing and adult rats. Compared with casein, the upregulation of antioxidant responsive element (ARE)-driven antioxidant expression levels (glutamate cysteine ligase catalytic subunit, glutamate cysteine ligase modulatory subunit, glutathione synthase, glutathione reductase, glutathione S-transferase, glutathione peroxidase, catalase, superoxide dismutase, heme oxygenase 1, NAD(P)H:quinone oxidoreductase 1) were found in RP groups. Also, RP upregulated methionine sulfoxide reductase (MsrA, MsrB2, and MsrB3) expression levels in growing and adult rats. As a result, RP enhanced endogenous antioxidative capacities to reduce hepatic accumulations of malondialdehyde, protein carbonyl, and reactive oxygen species. This study demonstrates that RP exerts the endogenous antioxidant capacity in growing and adult rats, which is due to stimulating Msr antioxidant expression and activating Nrf2-ARE pathway. Results suggest that the antioxidant activity induced by RP is independent of age.

      • Research on Sports Video Analysis Based on Rules

        Motivated by principles of natural language processing, we talk about rule-based methods for sports video analysis and propose a video parsing system by using grammar. Firstly, we segments video into elementary shots. Then through event detection, shots are annotated with semantic labels to form a token sequence. Finally, the sequence is parsed and validated with grammar to construct a table of content for the video. Different from other systems in the literature, our system is not only able to annotate semantic events, but also able to recognize hierarchical game structures of sports videos. Thus, it satisfies user’s requirements better.
