        To develop a dry alcohol containing red ginseng extract, dry alcohols composed of ethanol, water, dextrin and sodium lauryl sulfate were prepared using spray dryer, and their ethanol contents and encapsulation efficiencies were deter-mined. An optimal dry alcohol containing red ginseng extract was chosen and the feeling for its oral administration was eval-uated. Dextrin at dextrin/water weight ratios below 1.6/1 and ethanol at ethanol/water weight ratios below 1/1 remarkably increased both the ethanol contents and encapsulation efficiencies of dry alcohols. However, dextrin at dextrin/ water weight ratios above 1.6/1 and ethanol at ethanol/water weight ratio above 1/1 slightly decreased the both parameters. It might be due to the low solubility of dextrin in ethanol and limited diffusion coefficient of ethanol to the dextrin shell. Furthermore, 0.5%(w/w) sodium lauryl sulfate gave the maximum ethanol content of dry alcohol. The more increased amounts of red ginseng extract were added, the more increased amounts of ginsenoside Rb1 but the more decreased amounts of ethanol were encap-sulated in dry alcohols. A dry alcohol containing red ginseng extract was prepared with dextrin/ethanol/water(1/1/1, w/w/w) mixed solution, in which 0.5%(w/w) sodium lauryl sulfate and 20%(w/w) red ginseng extract were dissolved. It contained the ethanol contents of 31.17±1.33%(w/w) and ginsengoside Rb1 of 243.0±7.0㎍/g. It gave the moderate taste of red ginseng extract at its oral administration with or without water. Thus, the dry alcohol containing red ginseng extract can be further developed as a more convenient dosage form for red ginseng extract.

      • 초고집적소자의 층간절연막용 polysilazane계 spin on glass (SOG)에 관한 연구

        초고집적소자의 층간절연막으로서의 polysilazane계 spin on glass (SOG)의 적용 가능성을 평가하였다. 상용화된 무기 SOG 계열의 polysilazane과 polysilazane에 산화제를 첨가하여 SiO_2로의 변환 능력을 향상시킨 물질을 spin coating하고 curing하여 SOG 막을 제조한 다음, 400℃에서 900℃까지의 온도범위에서 열에 SOG막을 형성하여 gapfill 특성을 비교하였으며, SOG막에 contact hole을 형성한 다음 습식 세정에 대한 저항성을 평가하였다. 산화제를 첨가함으로써 polysilazane polymer 구조에서 SiO_2로의 변환이 더욱 효과적으로 이루어져, 기존 SOG 막에 비해 밀도 및 습식세정 chemical에 대한 저항성이 우수하고거 gapfill 특성은 동등한 수준인 SOG 막을 제조할 수 있었다. 특히, 기존의 SOG 막의 경우 좁은 gap space 내에서 curing이 충분하게 이어나지 않아 습식 세정시 hole profile이 나빠지는 문제를 산화제 첨가를 통해 해결할 수 있었다. We have investigated the feasibility of spin on glass (SOG) film from polysilazane-type resin as a premetal dielectric (PMD) layer of the next-generation ultra-large scale integrated (ULSI) devices. A commercial polysilazane resin and a polysilazane-type resin with oxidzing agent were spin-coated and cured to form SOG films. In order to study the effect of oxidizing agent and annealing, the SOG films were characterized as cured and after annealing at 400℃ to 900℃. The density and the resistance against wet chemical of the SOG films were improved by the addition of oxidizing agent, because oxidizing agent enhanced the conversion from polysilazane polymer to siO_2. The hole profile issue associated with insufficient curing of polysilazane innarrow gaps was alao resolved by oxidizing agent, while the gapfill capability of SOG was not deteriorated by oxidizing agent.

        Castleman' s disease is a rare, reactive lymphoid proliferation of unknown cause and pathogenesis. Depending on histololgic findings, it has been divided into two distinct histologic subtypes that include hyaline-vascular type(90%) and plasmacell type(10%). This disease occurs most commonly in mediastinal lymph nodes and cervical lymph nodes, inguinal lymph nodes respectively. But occurs rarely in retroperitoneum. We report a case of hyaline-vascular type asymptomatic Castleman' s disease of the retroperitoneum in a 47-year-old man.

        Occupational allergic rhinitis caused by rabbit fur has been reported in Korea. However, occupational asthma due to rabbit fur has not yet reported in Korea. We report a suspected case of allergic asthma caused by rabbit fur on occupational exposure. A 35-year-old male developed dyspnea, chest discomfort related to rabbit fur. He has been worked for a spinning factory. He presented with a history of allergic rhinitis and asthma. Peripheral blood eosinophil count was 690/mm3. Bronchodilator response was positive, the results of skin prick test were positive for house dust mite, cockroach and rabbit fur. The level of specific IgE for rabbit fur was 8.39 KU/L. The methacholine challenge test was positive (PC20 1.96 mg/mL). These findings suggest that the rabbit fur could induce occupational asthma. We could not perform bronchoprovacation test with rabbit fur due to patient`s refusal. He is in a well controlled state with the use of a combination of inhaled corticosteroid and long acting β2 agonist after the avoidance of rabbit fur.         Effectiveness of the Verif $EYE^{TM}$ machine -vision technology for complying with reducing microbial indicator counts on beef carcasses

        The slaughter process for cattle will inevitably transfer some bacteria onto the carcasses. The goal of food safety programs is to minimize and effectively remove this contamination. This study was attempted by the Verif $EYE^{TM}$ machine-vision technology that might be useful for reducing microbial indicator counts and could reduce the contamination chance of E coli O157:H7 and Salmonella spp on beef carcasses. For the evaluation of the effectiveness of the Verif $EYE^{TM}$ technology, 80 samples were examined by the inspection device over 15 days. On an examination of FDS-positive samples compared to negative controls from the same carcasses, aerobic plate counts were bigger than the negative control samples (5.26 vs 4.60 log). Enterobacteriaceae counts were greater on the positive samples than the corresponding negative control samples (2.07 vs 1.17log). There was a consistent correlation between samples detected by the Verif $EYE^{TM}$ system with detectable counts. For example, 100% of positive samples had detectable APC and 91.2% of positive samples had detectable TCC. Therefore, if areas detected as positive for contamination by the Verif $EYE^{TM}$ system were removed from the carcasses, significant sources of microbial contamination will be reduced for objective compliance with HACCP. This results suggest that the use of Verif $EYE^{TM}$ machine-vision technology might be useful for reducing microbial indicator counts (APC, TCC) and could help reduce the risk of presence of E coJi O157:H7 and Salmonella spp on Beef carcasses.

        외래마취시 전처치제로 사용한 Midazolam의 마취회복 및 회복실 퇴실 시간에 미치는 영향

        Background: Midazolam is often used as an anxiolytic premedication before surgery. But preoperatively administered midazolam may contribute to postopertive sedation and delayed recovery from general anesthesia. This study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of midazolam premedication on postoperative recovery and discharge-readiness after brief outpatient surgery. Methods: Sixty healthy ASA physical status I women scheduled for outpatient diagnostic laparoscopic surgery were considered for the study. They were randomly allocated to one of two groups. Group one received normal saline (N/S) 5 ml intravenously (IV), while group two received IV midazolam 0.04 mg/kg. The study drug was prepared in 5 ml of saline and administered 10 minutes before the induction of general anesthesia. General anesthesia was induced with fentanyl, propofol and vecuronium and was maintained with N2O and enflurane. Postanesthetic recovery (PAR) scores were recorded after the arrival of the patients in the postanesthetic recovery room. Sedation was quantified before and after premedication and 60, 120 minutes after arriving in the postanesthetic recovery room, using the symbol-digit-modalities test (SDMT) and trail-making test (TMT). Results: There were no significant differences between the two groups with respect to age, weight and anesthesia time. There were no significant differences in PAR scores or PAR-stay time between two groups. SDMT and TMT scores were significantly different 5 minutes after the study's drug administration, and 60 minutes after arrival in the postanesthetic recovery room between the two groups. The incidence of side effects was similar in both groups. Conclusions: Midazolam premedication proved effective in sedation and anxiolysis without prolonging postanesthetic recovery and discharge times for outpatient general anesthesia.       • Amino Acids as Natural Inhibitors for Hydrate Formation in CO<sub>2</sub> Sequestration

        <P>The motivation for this work was the potential of hydrophobic amino acids such as glycine, <SMALL>l</SMALL>-alanine, and <SMALL>l</SMALL>-valine to be applied as thermodynamic hydrate inhibitors (THIs). To confirm their capabilities in inhibiting the formation of gas hydrates, three-phase (liquid–hydrate–vapor) equilibrium conditions for carbon dioxide hydrate formation in the presence of 0.1–3.0 mol % amino acid solutions were determined in the range of 273.05–281.45 K and 14.1–35.2 bar. From quantitative analyses, the inhibiting effects of the amino acids (on a mole concentration basis) decreased in the following order: <SMALL>l</SMALL>-valine > <SMALL>l</SMALL>-alanine > glycine. The application of amino acids as THIs has several potential advantages over conventional methods. First, the environmentally friendly nature of amino acids as compared to conventional inhibitors means that damage to ecological systems and the environment could be minimized. Second, the loss of amino acids in recovery process would be considerably reduced because amino acids are nonvolatile. Third, amino acids have great potential as a model system in which to investigate the inhibition mechanism on the molecular level, since the structure and chemical properties of amino acids are well understood.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/esthag/2011/esthag.2011.45.issue-13/es200552c/production/images/medium/es-2011-00552c_0010.gif'></P>
