Herpes zoster is well known as an acute, self-limited disease of unilateral sensory dermatome caused by varicella-zoster virus and characterized by grouped vesicular skin eruption and pain over several dermatomes as well as single. This virus usually affects the thoracic dermatome and there are a few reports that this virus involves lower lumbar or sacral area, and recurrent cases. We experienced 2 cases that zoster virus involved L4 or S2 dermatome and left typical skin lesions, of which one was a recurrent case involving different dermatome at an interval of 8 years and the other was a rare case involving sacral dermatome.

데빅병 치료에 사용한 Interferon β-1b의 부작용 1예

A 63 year-old woman who had diagnosis of multiple sclerosis complaining left hemiparesis and fluctuating decreased visual acuity in her right eye and abnormal findings in pattern shift visual evoked potentials(PSVEPs) and on T2 weighted MR scanning. We treated her subcutaneously with 250μg interferon (3-lb(ITFß -lb) every other day. There were detected pancytopenia, skin rash, and abnormal liver function test seven days after the therapy. In spite of reducing the dose of interferon injection, abnormal laboratory findings were not returned to normal. Dose adjustment of interferon-I3 for body weight or race, may be helpful to reduce the side effects.

한국 정신장애의 역학 조사 연구[I] : 각 정신장애의 유병률

Objectives : This study aims to estimate the prevalence of the DSM-IV psychiatric disorders in Korean population using the Korean version of Composite International Diagnostic Interview (K-CIDI). Methods : Subjects were selected by taking multi-stage, cluster samples of 7,867 adult household residents, 18 to 64 years of age, in ten catchment areas. Total 78 trained interviewers administered the K-CIDI to the selected respondents, from June 1 to November30,2001. Results : Total 6,275 respondents completed the interview. Some 33.5% of respondents reported at least one lifetime disorder, 20.6% reported at least one-year disorder, and 16.7% reported at least one-month disorder. The most common lifetime disorders were alcohol abuse/dependence (17.24%), nicotine dependence/withdrawal (11.19%), specific phobia (5.16%), and major de-pressive disorder (4.25%). The lifetime prevalence of substance abuse/dependence (0.25%) and schizophrenia (0.16%) was very low. Nicotine and alcohol use disorder showed very high male/female ratio. Mood disorder and anxiety disorder were more prevalent among female than male. Conclusion : The prevalence of psychiatric disorders was high. In comparison with other studies, remarkable differences in distributions of psychiatric disorders across the areas and times were observed.

폐결핵의 조기진단에 있어서 이중중합효소연쇄반응법의 유용성

Background: Pulmonary tuberculosis is a great public health problem in Korea. Early detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) in clinical samples becomes more and more important in the control of tuberculosis. Recently, molecular methods have been applied to early detection of M. tuberculosis. Methods: To elucidate the effectiveness of nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in early diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis, we peformed Acid-fast bacilli (AFB) stain, AFB culture, and nested PCR on 84 sputa. Results: 8 (9.5%) specimens were positive by AFB stain, 17 (20.2%) by AFB culture, and 15 (17.9%) by nested PCR. Using AFB culture as standard method, the sensitivity of AFB stain and nested PCR was 47.1% and 82.4%, respectively. The specificity of AFB stain and nested PCR was 100% and 98.5%, respectively. Conclusions: Nested PCR was more sensitive than AFB stain and had shorter processing time(24-48hrs) than AFB culture. So it may be effective to use nested PCR in order to detect M. tuberculosis when AFB smear Is negative.

남녀 중학생의 식사 행동과 패스트푸드에 대한 인식 및 이용실태

This study was to investigated the dietary behavior and fast foods use among Korean youth in order to obtain basic information of nutrition education for them. Survey was carried out through questionnaire and the subjects were 236 boys and 388 girls of 4 middle schools in Seoul. The questionnaire included use frequency of Korean and foreign fast-foods, preference, concepts regarding prices, fullness, choice factors, dietary habits and nutritional Knowledge. The results are summarized as follow : 1. Overweight students(52.8%) were more than normal(43.1% ) and low body weight students (4.2%), classified by Roher index. 2. Moat students(78.9%) had very good or good food habit, 52.6% of boys and 44.0% of girls were having breakfast regulary. 46.1% of subjects had fast-foods once or twice in a week and girl subjects used more than boys. 3. Nutritional knowledge of the subjects was satisfiable and normal and overweight groups were better than underweight group, 4. Fast-foods most students liked were duckbocki(81.1%) fried chicken(80.9%) french fried potatos(80.4%) mandoo(78.1%) kimbab(78.9%), and fried chicken(77.9%). 5. 57.9% of the subjects wished to develope Korean traditional food items into fast-food style.

근관내 여러 조건에서의 ROOT ZX 전자근관장 측정기의 정확성에 관한 연구

The technique of electronic working length determination has gained considerable popularity among both endodontists and general dentist. Recently, the Root ZX(J.Morita Corp., Tokyo, Japan) has been developed with unique electronic features that are claimed to maintain the instrument's accuracy regardless of canal condition. The purpose of this study is to compare the accuracy of the Root ZX with estimates of actual canal length, in vitro model and in vivo under the various condition. 1. The experiment in vitro model 50 extracted, single-rooted and single-canaled, teeth with mature apices were selected. The extirpated teeth were placed in a saline-soaked Oasis, and measured with Root ZX according to manufacturer's instruction in the dried canal and saline-irrigated canal. The teeth were then removed from the model and the actual canal length was measured. The values of canal length in each conditions were used for evaluating the results. 2. In vivo study 15 teeth which destined for extraction were selected. Once access was gained, the canals were irrigated using 5.25% sodium hypochlorite and were not dried prior to insertion of the measurement file. Once the Root ZX indicated the C-D junction, self-curing resin was injected into the canal. The tooth was extracted and ground with a bur and Soflex disk. This was done until the terminus of the file and the root was revealed. The distance from the end of the file to the foramen(major diameter) was measure, and evaluated. The results were as follows: 1. In vitro study(A/B : difference between A and B) 1). The mean values of acutal length/dried canal length and actual length/saline irrigated canal length were 0.528㎜, and 0.525㎜ respectively. There is no significant difference between the means of acutal length/dried canal length and actual length/saline irrigated canal length. 2). Root ZX could locate the C-D junction at the point of 0.5㎜ inside of major foramen, in both dried canal and saline-irrigated canal. 2. In vivo study 1). Root ZX could locate the the C-D junction at the point of 0.5㎜ coronal to the major foramen in presence of 5.25% NaOCl. 2). Root Zx located a point that was perceived to be the apical constriction. The majority of file tip experimented were within the canal, not extended beyond the major foramen.

농아에서의 측두골 전산화 단층촬영 소견과 다른검사 요인과의 연관성

Temporal bone high resolution computed tomogram(TBHRCT)is a essential diagnostic tool in considering for cochlear implantation in patients with profound sensorineural hearing loss. This study was designed for an effort to provide and efficacy of TBHRCT in determination of inner ear malformations for the patients who have profound sensorineural hearing loss and to examine the relationships between TBHRCT findings and other preoperative evalutions for cochlear implantation in that patients. Authors examined 68 deaf patients to provide fundamental data for cochlear implantation. Inner ear abnormalities were founded in 13(19%) patients, among which 10(14.7%) patients had Mondini'dysplasia in which 5 patients were hypoplastic type and 5 patients were hydrops type. Other inner ear abnormalities were as follows : lateral semicircular canal hypoplasia ; internal auditory canal abnormality ; cochlear aqueduct widening ; vestibular aqueduct widening. No relationships were found between TBHRCT findings and other test results. : promontory test, K-WISC cognitive test etc.(Korean J Otolaryngol 39 : 8, 1996)

가압기포탑 반응기에서 기포의 Chaotic 거동해석

Chaotic behavior of bubbles has been investigated in a pressurized bubble column(0.1-0.6MPa). The bubble properties have been measured by means of resistivity probe method and the pressure fluctuations by the semi-conductor type pressure transducer. The number density distributions of the individual bubble chord length have been represented by the logarithmic normal distributions, by which the mean chord length of a bubble has been determined. The pressure fluctuations due to the bubbling phenomena in the column have been analyzed by resorting to the deterministic chaos theory; the mutual information function, phase space portraits and correlation dimension have been obtained from the time series of pressure fluctuations. It has been found that the mutual information function, phase space portraits and correlation dimension can be utilized to describe and explain the non-linear dynamical behaviors as well as the bubble properties in pressurized bubble columns, since they can provide quantitative measures of dynamical behaviors, arising from the complex gas-liquid flow.

유도집단 수련의 사회성 발달에 관한 연구

The goal of the study is to find out how Judo group discipline effects on human society. To fulfil this study's necessity and accomplish its contents, I have referred to sundry records and had interviews in the body, through which I made a conclusion of the study. Here are the points of this study's conclusion. First, Yudo group discipline turned out to be helpful to the formation of cohesion between peer groups, the area of sociality. Secondly, it helps one to exert one's leadership among the peer group. Thirdly, It helps one to observe the proprieties in social life, It means that the practice of proprieties in a Judo hall is transferred to the everyday lives. Finally, It is found out that Judo group discipline helps one to be positive to others. The physical and mental health of an individual allows one to hold positiveness towards others.

强靭鑄鐵의 熔接性에 關한 硏究

The matrix of ductile cast iron are welded by pre-heating it at 300℃ in the room temperature. Through the mechanical, non-desbructive testing and analysis of the composition. the possibility if arc welding of ductile cast iron are studied as follows; 1. L electrode is the best among them in weldability, impact value and machinability. The next is LB electrode followed by S electrode. C electrode is last. However, the tensile strength showed in the following order: LB, S, L, C. 2. LB, S, L, C, all are available for the welding of cast iron. 3. The above experiment showed that L and LB are good in general. In addition LB is low in price, we therefore prospect that it will be widely used as the electrode for cast iron.
