        Removal of superficial dentin surface to restore decreased bond strength caused by sodium hypochlorite

        Objective: Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) decreases the bond strength of resin composite. The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of antioxidant and superficial dentin surface removal on the microtensile bond strength of NaOCl-treated dentin. Materials and Methods: Twenty non-carious human third molars were used in this study. The dentin surfaces were treated with 5.25% NaOCl for 10 min, followed either by treatment with 10% ascorbic acid or superficial dentin surface removal. Two-step self-etch adhesive and resin composite were used for restoration. The bonded specimens were subjected to the microtensile bond strength test. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey’s test (p < 0.05). Results: The bond strength after removal of the superficial dentin surface following NaOCl irrigation was similar to that in the control group. The group treated with 10% ascorbic acid demonstrated significantly higher bond strength than the other groups. Conclusion: NaOCl irrigation-induced reduction in dentin bond strength could be recovered by either treatment with 10% ascorbic acid or simple removal of the superficial dentin surface.

        TV뉴스 기사문 문장에 대한 수어통역사의 수어 문장 실현 방식 분석

        The purpose of this study was to analyse how the sentence structures of television (TV) news can be translated into Korean sign language (KSL). This study examined the realization methods used by sign language interpreters to express an announcer’s uttered sentences in KSL. For this, TV news sentences and their sign language interpretation were collected from eight broadcasting companies and analysed through a comparison of spoken Korean and KSL. Simple sentences were realized in KSL though linear word order according to Korean word order, using sign language words that correspond with spoken Korean, or use of syntactic space as characteristics of sign language. Conjunct sentences were expressed by a short pause or KSL motion and the non-manual signals(NMSs), as well as KSL words such as {after, 후}, {next, 다음}, {when, 때}. Complex sentences were realized by a linear arrangement of the spoken Korean corresponding with the KSL lexicon, but the embedding sentences predicates were omitted according to the KSL interpreter’s arbitrary interpretation. In the future, research should be conducted on the relationships among the interpretation strategies that can be used the sentence structures and interpretation methods, as well as the equivalence of KSL interpretation to Korean sentences. 본 연구의 목적은 TV뉴스 문장 구조가 어떻게 한국수어로 변형되는지 분석하는 것이다. 아나운서가 발화한 문장을 수어통역사가 통역할 때 어떻게 실현하는지 그 방식을 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 8개 방송국의 TV뉴스 문장과 이를 통역한 수어 문장을 수집하여 이 둘을 비교․분석하였다. 그 결과 단문은 한국어 어순에 따른 선형적 어휘 배열, 한국어 대응 수어사용, 생략, 수어의 언어적 특징인 공간표지와 지시를 통해 실현되었다. 접속문은 짧은 휴지 혹은 KSL(Korean Sign Language) 동작과 비수지 신호, {after, 후}, {next, 다음}, {when, 때}와 같은 KSL어휘로 표현되었다. 또한 내포문은 한국어 대응 KSL 어휘를 선형으로 배열함으로써 실현되었지만, 내포문의 서술어는 수어통역사의 자의적 통역에 따라 생략되는 경우가 있었다. 향후 문장구성에 따라 취할 수 있는 통역전략 및 수어통역사의 실현방식, 그리고 등가성의 관계에 대한 후속 연구가 이루어질 필요가 있다.

        분홍색 통성 메탄올 자화세균이 생산하는 Poly-β-Hydroxybutyrate

        PHB 생산을 위하여 메탄올을 기질로 한 선별배지에서 토양, 하천수, 퇴비 등으로부터 분홍색 색소를 가지는 PHB 축적 facultative methylotroph를 분리하여, 균주의 특성을 검토하였다. 분리균주의 최적 생육조건과 PHB 축적을 위한 최적 배양조건을 조사한 결과 균체의 생육은 메탄올 농도 1.0%(v/v), 질소원인 NH_4Cl 농도 1.0g/l, 즉 C/N ratio 13.2일 때 그리고 pH 7.0과 30℃에서 가장 좋았으며, PHB는 C/N ratio가 50.8, 즉 메탄올 농도 1.0%(v/v), NH_4Cl 0.26g/l일 때, 그리고 pH 6.0일 때 건조중량의 약 40%까지 축적되었다. 고농도 메탄올에 의한 생육저해를 극복하기 위하여 기질을 간헐적으로 계속 공급해주는 fed-batch 배양을 시도한 결과 균체량은 14g/l, PHB 축적량은 5.5g/l까지 증가시킬 수 있었다. 생산된 PHB를 분리·정제하여 IR과 ^1H-NMR로 구조를 분석한 결과 3-hydroxybutyric acid의 homopolymer임이 확인되었다. 또한 균주의 pinkpigment를 추출하여 absorption spectrum를 조사하여 그 특성을 규명하였다. For poly-β-hydroxybutyrate(PHB) production, a pink-pigmented facultative methylotrophic bacterium(PPFM) P-10 was newly isolated from soils through methanol-enrichment culture. The optimal medium composition for cell growth was 1.0%(v/v) of methanol as carbon source and 1.0g/l of NH_4Cl, equivalent to C/N ratio of 13.2 at pH 7.0 and 30℃. To investigate the optimal condition for PHB accumulation, two-stage culture technique was adopted; first stage for cell growth and second stage for accumulation of PHB providing unbalanced growth conditions. The optimal PHB accumulation was 1.0%(v/v) of methanol and 0.26g/l of NH_4Cl, C/N of 50.8 at pH 6.0. To overcome methanol inhibition on cell growth, intermittent feeding fed-batch culture technique was employed, and the cell concentration as high as 14g/l with 40% of PHB was achieved. The purified PHB was identified using IR and ^1H NMR as homopolymer of 3-hydroxybutyric acid. The absorption spectrum of extracted pink colored microbial pigment was also investigated.

        타 인종에 있어 체질과 체성분의 상관성에 관한 연구

        Background: Sasang Constitutional Medicine (SCM) is a component of Korean traditional medicine that classifies humans into four categories, according to their constitution (Taeyangin, Taeumin, Soyangin and Soeumin). We are unaware of previous assessments of SCM in non-Asian race groups. Objectives: To quantify body composition components in three race groups and to determine whether SCM has an independent effect on body composition components. Design: A cross-sectional evaluation of 76 adults (28 Caucasian, 21 African-American, 27 Asian). Body composition was estimated using dual energy x-ray absorptiometry. Results: SCM component had a significant effect on weight, fat, and lean mass regardless of race group (p <0.001).

        Aucubin Promotes Differentiation of Neural Precursor Cells into GABAergic Neurons

        Aucubin is a small compound naturally found in traditional medicinal herbs with primarily anti-inflammatory and protective effects. In the nervous system, aucubin is reported to be neuroprotective by enhancing neuronal survival and inhibiting apoptotic cell death in cultures and disease models. Our previous data, however, suggest that aucubin facilitates neurite elongation in cultured hippocampal neurons and axonal regrowth in regenerating sciatic nerves. Here, we investigated whether aucubin facilitates the differentiation of neural precursor cells (NPCs) into specific types of neurons. In NPCs cultured primarily from the rat embryonic hippocampus, aucubin significantly elevated the number of GAD65/67 immunoreactive cells and the expression of GAD65/67 proteins was upregulated dramatically by more than three-fold at relatively low concentrations of aucubin (0.01 µM to 10 µM). The expression of both NeuN and vGluT1 of NPCs, the markers for neurons and glutamatergic cells, respectively, and the number of vGluT1 immunoreactive cells also increased with higher concentrations of aucubin (1 µM and 10 µM), but the ratio of the increases was largely lower than GAD expression and GAD immunoreactive cells. The GABAergic differentiation of pax6-expressing late NPCs into GABA-producing cells was further supported in cortical NPCs primarily cultured from transgenic mouse brains, which express recombinant GFP under the control of pax6 promoter. The results suggest that aucubin can be developed as a therapeutic candidate for neurodegenerative disorders caused by the loss of inhibitory GABAergic neurons.

        온산만의 퇴적물과 총알고둥(Littorina brevicula) 내 중금속 분포

        To investigate the distribution of heavy metal concentrations in Onsan bay, concentrations of cadmium, copper, zine and lead in surface sediments and the periwinkles (Littorina brevicula) were determined in Feburary and July, 1996. The ranges of cadmium, copper, zinc and lead concentrations in the surface sediments were 0.08-3.72, 3-307, 49-1273 and 15-399 ${\mu}g/g$ dry weight, respectively, The decrease of concentration in heavy metals with distance from Daejeong stream indicated that this stream is the pollutant source of heavy metals in Onsan Bay. The concentrations of cadmium, copper, zinc and led in L. brevicula were 0.11-11.81, 21-212, 30-96 and 0.26-4.12 ${\mu}g/g$ dry weigth in February and 1.01-24.9, 66-325, 54-225 and 0.68-8.41 ${\mu}g/g$ dry weight in July, respectively. These concentrations in L. brevicula were the significantly different (p<0.001) with the season of sampling. However, overall distribution of concentrations of heavy metals in L. brevicula had very similar tendency that concentrations of heavy metal decreased with the distance from the pollutant source irrespective of the two seasons. Therefore, L. brevicula is considered as a useful indicator for heavy metals pollution, According to analysis of the organs, tissues such as the digestive gland, gill and viceral mussel accumulate high concentrations of heavy metals.

        留学生の「人間関係の構築と継続」のための日本語教育的な支援 -韓国人留学生の留学生活に対するインタビュー調査を基に-

        In interviews with Korean students studying abroad in Japan, this paper shows what kind of counterparts exist around the students, what role they expect from them, and what Japanese education should do to build and continue the human relationship of students studying in Japan. The survey has identified four types of counterparts to the Korean students: Japanese students, Japanese friends, other international students, and Japanese non-students who the Korean students interact with. In addition, the survey identified certain roles that the international students expect from their counterparts: the role of partner as a classmate, the role of a counselor for counseling about studying abroad, and the role of supporter for learning Japanese. The building and continuing of human relationships of international students is an important factor in determining the satisfaction of students studying abroad. Therefore, when study-abroad instructors organize classes and programs, they should consider the value of extended class activities outside of the class and beyond the university setting. Many studies have shown that maintaining the closeness and stability of the same group of international students is helpful for the psychological stability for international students. But, they eventually had difficulty getting close to Japanese people and their Japanese language skills were not increasing.
