        Total rate of Gram Negative Bacilli is 8.9% with infection of 267 cases. Gram Negative Bacilli were isolated from milk of the mastitis and was investigated the Antibiotic resistance and biochemical properties. The results were as follows: 1) The bacteria were recognized as E. coli (30.5%) Enterobacter spp. (20,2%), Shigella spp. (13.5%), Klebsiella spp. (4.4%), Citrobacterspp. (8.9%), Pseudomonas spp. (8.9%), and Proteus spp. (4.4%) inbiochemical properties. 2) The E. coli were predominatingly resistant to Penicillin, Ampicillin, Bacitracin, Amikacin, Colistin, Streptomycin anb Oxytetracycline. 3) Enterobacter were highly resistant to Cephalothin, Oxytetracycline, Ampicillin, Clidamycin, Cloxacillin, Colistin arid Penicillin. 4) Klebsiella spp. were conspicuously resistant to Ampicillin, Cephalothin, Chloramp-henicol, Cloxacillin, Erythromycin and Penicillin. 5) Citrobacter spp. were highly resistant to Amikacin, Ampicillin, Cephalothin, Clidamycin, Cloxacillin, Erythromycin, Penicillin and Streptomycin. 6) Pseudomonas were highly resistant to Amikacin, Ampicillin, Cephalothin, Clindamycin, Cloxacillin, Erythromycin, Penicillin and Streptomycin. 7) Proteus spp. were resistant to Colistin, Gentamycin, Ampicillin, Cephalthin, Chloramphenicol, Clindamycin, Cloxacillin, Erythromycin, Penicillin, Polymyxin, Streptomycin and Oxytetracycline,

      • 정신분열병 환자에서 Apolipoprotein E 유전자 다형성

        연구목적 : 본 연구에서는 Apolipoprotein E와 정신분열병의 관련성을 알아보기 위하여 정신분열병 환자와 정상인을 대상으로 apolipoprotein E 유전자형과 대립유전자 빈도를 조사하였고 정신분열병 환자군에서는 여러 임상변인에 따른 유전자형의 빈도를 알아보았다. 방 법 ; 정신분열병 환자 101명과 정상대조군 96명을 대상으로 중합효소 연쇄반응을 이용하여 apolipoprotein E 유전자 다형성을 분리하였다. 결 과 : 환자군과 대조군 사이에 유전자형과 대립유전자 빈도는 유의한 차이가 없었다. PANSS에 의한 양성 및 음성군, DSM-IV에 의한 아형, 가족력 유무 등의 임상변인에 따라 각 유전자형의 빈도는 차이를 보이지 않았다. 결 론 : 정신분열병 및 특정 임상양상과 apolipoprotein E 유전자 다형성은 관련성이 없었으며 이 결과는 apolipoprotein E가 정신분열병의 표현에 있어 주요 유전적 요인으로 작용하지 않음을 시사하였다. Objectives : To explore the role of apolipoprotein E in schizophrenia, we investigated apolipoprotein E polymorphism in groups of patients with schizophrenia and normal controls. We also examined the reationship of clinical characteristics of schizophrenia to apolipoprotein E genotypes. Methods : Sample were obtained from 101 schizpohrenic patients and 96 controls in Korea and apolipoprotein E polymorphisms were analysed using polymerase chain reaction. Results : The genotype and allele frequencies did not differ from those of controls. The clinical variables of schizophrenia, such as positive and negative groups by PANSS, subtypes by DSM-IV, family history were not associated with each genotypes. Conclustion : We could not find the association of apolipoprotein E in Korean schizophrenic patients and it could be suggested that apolipoprotein E isoforms might not play a main role in expression of schizophrenia.

      • Effect of gel spinning accompanied with cross-linking using boric acid on the structure and properties of high-molecular-weight poly(vinyl alcohol) fiber

        <P>To enhance the thermal stability of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) fiber, the fiber was prepared from the gel spinning of high molecular weight (HMW) PVA by using dimethyl sulfoxide/water (8/2, v/v) as a solvent, accompanied with the cross-link by boric acid (B-PVA). In addition, the structure and properties of the B-PVA fiber were compared with those of the HMW PVA fiber obtained by using the same spinning system without cross-linking (NB-PVA). Through a series of experiments, it turned out that cross-linking actualized by an optimum amount of boric acid (0.3 wt % based on PVA) and zone drawing caused significant changes in the properties of HMW PVA gel fiber. That is, cross-linking increased thermal degradation temperatures at each degradation step and amounts of final residues, resulting in improving thermal properties of the PVA fiber. On the contrary, it was found that in the case of the B-PVA fiber, some broadening of the original PVA unit cell occurred, which was identified by the peak shift to lower angle in X-ray diffractogram.       • Characterization of the Recombinant Proteins of Porcine Circovirus Type2Field Isolate Expressed in the Baculovirus System

        Porcine circovirus (PCV) type2 was isolated usingprimary porcine kidney cells from lymph node ofpiglets with typical PMWS. The presence of the viruswas identified by PCR using primers pecific to PCVtype2. The ORFs 1 and 2 were amplified by PCR usingprimers corresponding to the target genes of the PCVtype 2. Cloned genes were inserted into the baculovirusexpresion vector and PCV recombinant proteinsRecombinant protein expression was determined byindirect imunofluorescent assay (IFA) and imuno-bloting using polyclonal antiserum to PCV. ORF1gene expresed two proteins with aproximately 17kDa nd 31 kDa proteins in the baculovirus ystem.Recombinant protein of the ORF2 was similar to thatof the native virus except minor bands with diferentmolecular weight were detected. Recombinant proteinexpressed in the baculovirus ystem showed at leasttwo glycosylation sites based on the tunicamycinvirus-like particle in recombinant virus infectedinsect cels.

        Effect of bee venom on cell proliferation and cyclooxygenase 2 expression in the dentate gyrus of mice with acetic acid induced hyperalgesia

        연구 배경 및 목적 : 봉독은 항염증 등의 효과를 가지고 있다고 알려져 있지만 세포 증식과 관련된 봉독의 효과에 대한 고찰을 위해 본 硏究에서는 蜂毒 藥鍼 刺戟이 아세트산 誘發 痛覺 過敏症을 가진 쥐의 齒狀回에서의 細胞 增植과 COX2 發現에 미치는 影響에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 실험방법 : 대조군, 아세트산 처치군, 아세트산 0.1㎎/㎏ 봉독 처치군, 아세트산 1㎎/㎏ 봉독처치군(n=5 in each group)의 네 군으로 나누고 해당 군에 일벌 蜂毒(Sigma Chemical Co., St. Louis, MO, USA)을 양측 족삼리 경혈(ST36)에 주입시키고 30분 후 아세트산(100% acetic acid 1% 용액의 0.5㎖)을 복강내로 주입하여 복부 긴장 회수를 세었으며, BrdU 양성, COX 2 양성 세포수를 면역 화학 조직법을 수행하여 세어 보았다. 결과 : 아세트산 처치군에서는 대조군에 비해 5 bromo 2' deoxyuridine 양성 세포의 수는 減少되며, 齒狀回에서의 COX2의 發現은 增强되는 것으로 보여졌다. 蜂毒 注入은 아세트산 誘發 腹部 緊張 횟수와 齒狀回에서의 COX2 發現을 抑制하여, 齒狀回에서의 細胞 增植을 增加시켰다. 결론 : 이번 結果에서 보면, 齒狀回에서의 COX2의 發現은 細胞 增植 抑制와 關聯되며 蜂毒은 COX2 發現 抑制를 통해 齒狀回에서의 새로운 細胞 形成을 增加시킨다는 것을 알 수 있다.

      • Cerebral cortical areas in which thickness correlates with severity of motor deficits of Parkinson's disease.

        <P>The pathology of Parkinson's disease (PD) is not confined to the nigrostriatal dopaminergic pathway, but also involves widespread cerebral cortical areas. Such non-nigrostriatal lesions may contribute to disabling dopa-resistant parkinsonian motor deficits. We performed cortical thickness analysis to identify cerebral cortical brain areas in which thickness correlates with the severity of parkinsonian motor deficits. We performed T1-weighted brain magnetic resonance imaging studies in 142 PD patients. Motor scores on the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) were measured, and subscores were calculated for bradykinesia, rigidity, tremor, and axial motor deficits. Using FreeSurfer software, we studied cortical areas in which thickness correlates with disease duration or the severity of parkinsonian motor deficits. The cortical thickness of the parieto-temporal association cortex, including the inferior parietal and posterior parietal cortices, showed a negative correlation with disease duration, total UPDRS motor score, and UPDRS subscores for bradykinesia and axial motor deficits. We found no cortical areas in which thickness correlated with subscores for tremor and rigidity. In addition to nigrostriatal dopaminergic deficit, progressive thinning of the parieto-temporal sensory association cortices related to disease duration seems to be related in part to the exacerbation of bradykinesia and the axial motor symptoms of PD.</P>

        Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Collage of Medicine, Ewha Woman's University This 31 years old female patient visited our hospital on July 2000, with complaint of painful ulceration on vulvar with withish coated membrane and oral mucosa ulceration at 28 weeks of pragnancy. Behcet's disease is an inflammatory disorder of unknown cause, characterized by recurrent oral aphthous ulcers, genital ulcers, uveitis, and skin lesion. We are present a case of Behcet's disease in pregnancy with a brief review of literature.
