        연속냉간압연의 두께제어 모델 개발에 관한 연구

        The quality requirements for thickness accuracy in cold rolling continue to become more stringent, particularly in response to exacting design specification from automotive customers. One of the major impacts from the tighter tolerance level is more unusable product on the head end and tail end of tandem mill coils when the mill is in transition to or from steady state rolling condition. A strip thickness control system for a tandem cold steel rolling mills is composed with blocked non-interacting controller and controllers for strip thickness and tension control of each rolling stands. An intelligent mathematical model included an elastic deformation of strip has been developed and applied to the field in order to predict the rolling force. The simulated results showed that the effect of elastic recovery should be included the model, even if the effect of elastic compression was not important.

      • 뇌기저동맥 첨단부 폐쇄증후군 후 지연성 올리브 비대에 동반된 눈떨림

        눈입천장떨림(Oculopalatal tremor)은 치아핵, 적핵 및 올리브핵을 연결하는 신경로(dentatorubro-olivary pathway, Guillain-Mollaret triangle)의 손상 이후에 발생하는 비대성올리브핵 변성(hypertrophic inferior olivary degeneration)에 의한 지연성(delayed) 합병증이다. 다리 뇌출혈(pontine hemorrhage) 또는 뇌줄기경색(brainstem infarction)후 아래 올리브핵비대(inferior olivary hypertrophy)가 발생한 환자에서 입천장떨림(palatal tremor) 없이 눈떨림이 보고된 경우가 있으나, 뇌바닥동맥끝증후군(top of the basilar syndrome) 후 아래올리브핵비대가 발생한 환자에서 눈떨림이 보인 경우는 드물다. 뇌바닥동맥끝증후군 후에 아래올리브핵비대가 발생한 환자에서 지연성 수평 눈떨림 보고하고자 한다. 이것은 양측 소뇌다리의 손상 때문에 눈떨림의 수직 성분이 동반되지 않은 수평눈떨림을 보인 것으로 유추할 수 있다. Oculopalatal tremor(OPT) is a delayed complication of hypertrophic inferior olivary degeneration after the lesion in the dentato-rubro-olivary pathway, the Guillain-Mollaret triangle. Some cases of ocular tremor without palatal tremor associated with inferior olivary hypertrophy after pontine hemorrhage or brainstem infarction have been reported, but ocular tremor with inferior olivary hypertrophy after top of the basilar syndrome has rarely been described. We describe a patient showing delayed-onset horizontal ocular tremor with inferior olivary hypertrophy after top of the basilar syndrome. It can be postulated that the vertical component of ocular tremor could have not developed because of the lesions in bilateral cerebral peduncles.

        Pollination biology of Caesalpinia decapetala (Leguminosae) in Korea

        Morphological changes of flowers and insect visitors were observed to investigate pollinator of Caesalpinia decapetala. The flowers of C. decapetala are protandrous. Functionally, the flower is changed from male to female. As a male, pollen grain is released after anther dehisced while style is immature. After completed pollen grain release, the style starts to lengthen. It helps the stigma to easily touch the carpenter bee's thorax covered with pollen grain. At this time, flower functions as a female. The majority of taxa and individuals observed were Hymenoptera. The most frequent visitor was the Xylocopa appendiculata circumvolans, carpenter bee. Carpenter bees exhibited only typical pollinator behavior among flower visitors, with touching reproductive organs and seeking nectar at the same time. The pollination behavior is as follows. Soon after carpenter bees perceived guide mark, they foraged rightward and grasped style and stamens with legs and they inserted proboscis into standard petal to seek nectar. With this behavior, the pollen grains of the male flower transfer to the ventral thorax of the carpenter bee. As the carpenter bee moves to another female flower, the deposited pollen grains are delivered to the stigma.

        Partial nucleotide sequencing and phylogenetic analyses of Newcastle disease virus and infectious bursal disease virus isolated in South Korea

        The present study was conducted to investigate the genetic profile of two prevalent avian pathogens in Korea namely, Newcastle disease virus(NDV) and infectious bursal disease virus(IBDV). Two farms located in Yeongi-gun, Chungnam were selected for this study. The two viruses were isolated from various organs(spleen, trachea, bursa of Fabricius) of deceased chickens that showed clinical symptoms of Newcastle Disease or Infectious bursal disease like swelling and congestion of the F bursa, facial edema, lacrimation, greenish yellow diarrhea as well as pathological signs like airsacculitis, haemorrhages in the intestines and so on. For analysis of NDV and IBDV, a 466 and 435 base pair fragments corresponding to the HN and VP2 regions which are highly conserved among related strains of NDV and IBDV, respectively, were amplified by RT-PCR and analyzed by sequencing. Comparison of the VP2 region showed a 99.3% homology between the Korean IBDV isolate and the BJ836-attenuated vaccine strain. In contrast, the HN region of the Korean NDV isolate only has an 83 to 84% homology with the vaccine strains LaSota, B1 and VGGA. Our findings reveal that the prevalent NDV strain in Korea is genetically different from the vaccine strains and may explain the recent outbreaks of Newcastle disease in the region.

      • Effect of Bulk Temperature and Frequency on the Sonolytic Degradation of 1,4-Dioxane with Fe<sup>0</sup>

        <P>The sonolysis of 1,4-dioxane in the absence and the presence of zero-valent iron (Fe<SUP>0</SUP>) was investigated by altering bulk temperature and ultrasonic frequency conditions. In the absence of Fe<SUP>0</SUP>, the sonolytic degradation efficiency of 1,4-dioxane was higher at 170 kHz as compared to that at 35 kHz. As bulk temperature increased, sononlytic degradation efficiency of 1,4-dioxane decreased at both frequencies; however, the rate decrease by the increase in temperature was smaller at 170 kHz than at 35 kHz. Adding methanol as a radical scavenger remarkably decreased the sonolytic degradation rate at 170 kHz within 60 min in all bulk temperatures. In contrast, the decrease in the degradation rate by adding methanol at 35 kHz was observed after 60 min only at 10 °C, but not at 20 and 30 °C. These results indicate that both bulk temperature and sonication frequency should be considered to optimize the sonolytic degradation. The degradation efficiency was significantly enhanced in the presence of Fe<SUP>0</SUP> especially at 170 kHz, indicating that Fe<SUP>0</SUP> can facilitate hydroxyl radical production by Fenton-type reaction mechanism during sonication.</P>

        Nicotine Suppresses TNF-${\alpha}$ Expression in Human Fetal Astrocyte through the Modulation of Nuclear Factor-${\kappa}B$ Activation

        Parkinson's disease (PD) progresses severely by a gradual loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra (SN). Epidemiological studies showed that the incidences of PD were reduced by smoking of which the major component, nicotine might be neuroprotective. But the function of nicotine, which might suppress the incidences of PD, is still unknown. Fortunately, recently it was reported that a glial reaction and inflammatory processes might participate in a selective loss of dopaminergic neurons in the SN. The levels of tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-${\alpha}$ synthesised by astrocytes and microglia are elevated in striatum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in PD. TNF-${\alpha}$ kills the cultured dopaminergic neurons through the apoptosis mechanism. TNF-${\alpha}$ release from glial cells may mediate progression of nigral degeneration in PD. Nicotine pretreatment considerably decreases microglial activation with significant reduction of TNF-${\alpha}$ mRNA expression and TNF-${\alpha}$ release induced by lipopholysaccharide (LPS) stimulation. Thus, this study was intended to explore the role of nicotine pretreatment to inhibit the expressions of TNF-${\alpha}$ mRNA in human fetal astrocytes (HFA) stimulated with IL-$1{\beta}$. The results are as follows: HFA were pretreated with 0.1, 1, and $10{\mu}g/mL$ of nicotine and then stimulated with IL-$1{\beta}$ (100 pg/mL) for 2h. The inhibitory effect of nicotine on expressions of TNF-${\alpha}$ mRNA in HFA with pretreated $0.1{\mu}g/mL$ of nicotine was first noted at 8hr, and the inhibitory effect was maximal at 12 h. The inhibitory effect at $1{\mu}g/mL$ of nicotine was inhibited maximal at 24 h. Cytotoxic effects of nicotine were noted above $10{\mu}g/mL$ of nicotine. Moreover, Nicotine at 0.1, 1 and $10{\mu}g/mL$concentrations significantly inhibited IL-$1{\beta}$-induced TF-${\kappa}B$ activation. Collectively, these results indicate that in activated HFA, nicotine may inhibit the expression of TNF-${\alpha}$ mRNA through the pathway which suppresses the NF-${\kappa}B$ activation. This study suggests that nicotine might be neuroprotective to dopaminergic neurons in the SN and reduce the incidences of PD.
