      • 경사진 트레드밀에서 후방보행운동을 통한 넙다리네갈래근 강화와 요통의 관계

        목적: 본 연구에서는 경사진 트레드밀에서의 후방 보행 훈련을 통한 넙다리네갈래근의 강화가 요통 환자의 치료에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 대상: 만성 요통을 호소하는 16명의 환자를 대상으로 연구를 실시 하였다. 방법: 트레드밀을 10° 경사로 맞춰놓은 상태에서 대상자들은 하루 20분, 일주일에 3회의 빈도로 2주 동안 훈련을 하였다. 표면 근전도를 가지고 넓다리 곧은근, 안쪽 넓은근, 가쪽 넓은근, 척추 세움근의 %MVIC를 측정하였고, KODI와 VAS를 통해 대상자들의 통증정도를 측정하였다. 결과: 넓다리 곧은근은 훈련전에 비해 훈련을 하고 난 후 상대적으로 높은 근전도를 보였고, 통계적으로 유의하였다(p<.05). 안쪽 넓은근과 가쪽 넓은근 또한 높은 근전도율을 보였지만 통계적으로 유의하지는 않았다. 척추 세움근은 훈련전에 비해 훈련을 하고 난 후 높은 근전도율을 보여주었고, 통계적으로 유의하였다(p<.05). VAS와 KODI의 평균값은 명백하게 감소되었고, 통계적으로 유의하였다(p<.05). 결론: 이상의 결론을 종합하면, 후방보행을 통한 넙다리네갈래근의 강화는 요통의 감소에 효과적이라고 사료되며, 더불어 넙다리네갈래근으로 접근하여 요통을 경감하는 중재방법이 효과적인 치료 방법이 될 수 있다는 것을 의미한다. Purpose: This study was to investigate the influence of strengthening the Quadriceps femoris through backward walking treadmill training in the patients who have lower back pain. Subjects: Sixteen subjects with chronic lower back pain were included. Method: In the training, the treadmill was set to have a inclination of 10 degrees, and the subjects were trained for 20 minutes a day, 3 times a week, for 2 weeks. %MVIC(muscle power) of rectus femoris, vastus medialis oblique, vastus lateralis and erctor spinae were measured with surface EMG, and KODI and VAS were used to measure the subject's level of pain. Results: Quadriceps femoris showed relatively higher average electromyogram rates than that before training(p<.05). Vastus medialis oblique and vastus lateralis also showed higher average electromyogram rates, but no significant change in them was noted. Erector spinae showed higher average electromyogram rates than that before training(p<.05). The average points of VAS and KODI clearly decreased(p<.05). Conclusion: Strengthening Quadriceps femoris seems to be efficient for relieving lower back pain in this study.

        Nowadays many products using nano-technology have been released and nano-technology would be more prospected in all kinds of industries especially cosmetic manufacturing and ingredient fields. In cosmetics, the saturated lecithin, one of the main surfactants to make liposome, has been used for its stability but it has been substituting by unsaturated lecithin which has excellent skin affinity and penetration. So we studied to develop nano-liposome below 50㎚ with unsaturated lecithin. To make stable nano-liposome, many factors including solvent like propylene glycol, pH balance, homogenizing pressure and liposome stabilizer like surfactant are important especially stearate series surfactants have positive effect in liposome size and long term stability. But in liposome with saturated lecithin, surfactant has negative effect and appropriate amount of oil should be used to be stable. So we could conclude that unsaturated lecithin is suitable than saturated lecithin to make nano-liposome.

        Antioxidative Activity of the Hydrolytic Enzyme Treated Sorbus commixta Hedl. and its Inhibitory Effect on Matrix Metalloproteinase-1 in UV Irradiated Human Dermal Fibroblasts

        Superoxide radical scavenging activity and DPPH radical scavenging activity were assessed in order to evaluate the antioxidant effect of the Sorbus commixta Hedl. extract (SCoE). SCoE was also treated with several carbohydrate-hydrolytic enzymes that significantly increased the total phenol and flavonoid composition of SCoE. The enzymatically treated SCoE was then assessed for antioxidative activity. The most efficient radical scavenging activity was observed when SCoE was treated with -glucanase. The radical scavenging activity of ${\beta}-glucanase-treated$ SCoE (${\beta}-GSCoE$) enhanced the viability of human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs) exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light. The intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging activity of ${\beta}-GSCoE$ was assessed using UVB (20 $mJ/cm^2$)-irradiated HDFs. UVB irradiation increased dichlorofluorescein (DCF) fluorescence, which was measured by a 5-(6-)chloromethyl-2',7'-dichlorodihydrofluorescein diacetate ($CM-H_2DCFDA$). DCF-fluorescence was significantly decreased in the ${\beta}-GSCoE-containing$ culture medium, suggesting that ${\beta}-GSCoE$ scavenges free radicals. The protective effect was further verified by assessing the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) in UVA-irradiated HDFs. The treatment of UVA-irradiated HDFs with ${\beta}-GSCoE$ resulted in a dose-dependent decrease in the expression level of MMP-1 protein and mRNA. These results suggest that ${\beta}-GSCoE$ may mitigate the effects of photoaging in skin by reducing UV-induced adverse skin reactions.

      • Fucoidan suppresses excessive phagocytic capacity of porcine peripheral blood polymorphonuclear cells by modulating production of tumor necrosis factor-alpha by lipopolysaccharide-stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We examined the effect of fucoidan, an immune modulator, on the phagocytic capacity of porcine peripheral blood polymorphonuclear cells (PMNs) exposed to culture supernatant from lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). For this purpose, we evaluated the phagocytic capacity of porcine PMNs by flow cytometry and measured levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (<I>TNF-α</I>) protein and mRNA in porcine PBMCs by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and real time-polymerase chain reaction (PCR), respectively. Fucoidan or LPS alone did not affect the phagocytic capacity of PMNs, but phagocytosis by these cells was increased by exposure to culture supernatant from PBMCs treated with fucoidan or LPS. In particular, the culture supernatant from PBMCs treated with LPS revealed excessive phagocytosis of PMNs. This excessive phagocytic capacity was diminished by co-treatment LPS with fucoidan. Production of <I>TNF-α</I> mRNA and protein increased upon treatment of PBMCs with either fucoidan or LPS, but this effect was also diminished by co-treatment LPS with fucoidan. The ability of culture supernatant from PBMCs treated with LPS and/or fucoidan to increase the phagocytic capacity of PMNs was inhibited by anti-recombinant porcine <I>TNF-α</I> polyclonal antibody. These results suggested that fucoidan suppresses the phagocytic capacity of PMNs by modulating <I>TNF-α</I> production by LPS-stimulated PBMCs.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The clinical and pharmacological activities of fucoidan, a cell wall polysaccharide found in the brown seaweed, have been known to modulate the immune function. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of fucoidan on the phagocytic capacity of porcine peripheral blood polymorphonuclear cells (PMNs) in inflammation condition. </LI> <LI> The phagocytic capacity of PMNs was enhanced by the culture supernatant from PBMCs treated with either fucoidan or LPS. In particular, the culture supernatant from PBMCs treated with LPS revealed excessive high phagocytosis of PMNs This excessive phagocytosis of PMNs was reduced by treatment of fucoidan. </LI> <LI> In addition, the production of TNF-α was shown to increase upon the treatment of either fucoidan or LPS in PBMCs. However, the excessive production of TNF-α in PBMCs by LPS treatment was reduced by addition of fucoidan. </LI> <LI> The level of TNF-α mRNA expression in PBMCs was also up-regulated by either the fucoidan or LPS treatment. However, the excessive expression of TNF-α mRNA in PBMCs by LPS treatment was decreased by fucoidan. </LI> <LI> This ability of culture supernatant from PBMCs by LPS and/or fucoidan to increase the phagocytic capacity of PMNs was inhibited by addition of anti-rp TNF-α polyclonal antibody (pAb). </LI> <LI> These results suggested that fucoidan can suppress excessive phagocytic capacity of PMNs through modulation of TNF-α production in inflammation condition. </LI> </UL> </P>

        LG Electronics developed linear compressors for a household refrigerator which can reduce energy consumption up to 24 % by only Drop-In instead of a conventional reciprocating compressor. The linear compressor is composed of a linear oscillating motor, a piston directly coupled with the linear motor, a cylinder and the specific discharge system of LG. Because of this free-piston structure, the position of the piston can be changeable according to the voltage variation, load variation and so on. By this reason, LG linear compressor has been in need of an additional unit to control the position of the free-piston stably.<br/> In this paper we will introduce the innovative technology which is able to operate the linear compressor without controlling the piston position like a conventional reciprocating compressor.

        Properties of Nanoemulsions Containing Lecithin in Cosmetics

        We have studied the emulsion particle size change, the stability, and the possibility for applications of cosmetics depending on the concentration and variety of phosphatidyl choline (PC). The relationship between the emulsion particle size and the concentration of PC was checked using lecithin that included either 39% or 70% PC. The greater PC concentration gave the smaller particle size because of the critical packing parameter (CPP) of each lecithin. The cell toxicity of lecithin is similar to that of nonionic surfactants, and so it could be used as a skin-compatible material in cosmetics that use its benefits. PC, the main ingredient of lecithin, forms stable vesicles because its CPP is 1/2~1. Single-chain surfactants resulted in smaller particle when used with lecithin; Tween 60 made the smallest particles, so we believe its CPP is similar to that of PC. The particle size of a sample over the phase inversion temperature was smaller than one below it. In a study of emulsions using oils of different densities, silicone oil (the highest density) was worked positively in emulsion particles. The moisturizing effect of an emulsion using lecithin was better than that of an emulsion using nonionic surfactant. Finally, we prepared emulsions using unsaturated lecithin and saturated lecithin at the same concentration and found that unsaturated lecithin creates smaller particles.
