In recent localized heavy rainfalls have been arising from abnormal climate change. People are concerning about damages with increasing the frequency of flooding. Therefore, we need to understand river hydraulic characteristics and management to reduce damage from flooding. To study hydraulic characterization of Sincheon experimental catchment HEC-RAS (Hydrologic Engineering Center River Analysis System) model which provided by U.S Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) was applied. This study analyzed and compared water level the frequency flood for 100 years and 200 years by clark unit Hydrography. The change of the water level of Daejeon bridge, Sincheon bridge and Singi bridge showed increased for all conditions. The flow rate for the Daejeon bridge and the Sincheon bridge showed an increase, but the Sinki bridge showed a decreasing flow rate overally, except for 1hour-100 years. The verification result showed that the model was able to simulate the water level with 0.4709 coefficient of determination and error ration ranging from 1 to 3%.

We investigated the association between genetic variants in the histone modification regions and the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma after curative surgery. Potentially functional SNPs were selected using integrated analysis of ChIP-seq and RNA-seq. The SNPs were analyzed in a discovery set (n=166) and a validation set (n=238). The associations of the SNPs with overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were analyzed. A total of 279 SNPs were selected for genotyping. Among these, CAPN1 rs17583C>T was significantly associated with better OS and DFS (P = 0.001 and P = 0.007, respectively), and LINC00959 rs4751162A>G was significantly associated with worse DFS (P = 0.008). Luciferase assays showed a significantly lower promoter activity of CAPN1 in the rs17583 T allele than C allele (P = 0.008), and consistently the CT+TT genotypes had significantly lower CAPN1 expression than CC genotype (P = 0.01) in clinical samples. The rs4751162 G allele had higher promoter activity of GLRX3 than A allele (P = 0.05). The motif analyses and ChIP-qPCR confirmed that the variants are located in the active promoter/enhancer regions where transcription factor binding occurs. This study showed that genetic variants in the histone modification regions could predict the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma after surgery.

The authors developed a computerized electroencephalography with a IBM PC AT. EEG signals amplified with 16 channels(Nihon Kohden EEG-4313 F) were acquired through a DTX 2806 and a DTX 311(Data Translation) into a computer. EEG activity was digitized at 102.4 Hz(1024 samples per epoch). Shifted DC potentials and 60 Hz artifact were removed by high pass filter and 60 Hz notch filter. A window function consisting of a 10% cosine taper was obtained by weighing the points at either end of the epoch by a cosine bell. A fast Fourier transform was applied to every epoch and the power spectrum estimates computer at 0.39 Hz steps. For smoothing, adjacent estimates were summed to yield 1-Hz resolution, with the final estimates expressed as magnitude values in microvolts(square root of power). The activity estimates for the delta, theta, alpha and beta bands were computed by summing adjacent values : delta 0.7-4.3, theta 4.7-7.8, alpha 8.2-12.9, betal 13.9-19.9, beta2 20.3-31.6. The function of the system was tested using with 10 Hz sine wave from a functional generator and a human EEG.
The Spatial Density of Production Activity and Productivity Differentials across Regions

This study investigates the effects of the spatial density of production activity on labor productivity and total factor productivity in Korean manufacturing. A theoretical model that directly relates productivity growth to the spatial density of production activity is developed. The empirical results show that a higher density of production activity would lead to an increase in productivity in four regions (Gwangju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Chungcheongnam-do, and Gyeonggi-do) out of 15 regions. Our empirical analysis further suggests that any increase in the density of production activity in the metropolitan cities (except for Gwangju) could lead to a decrease in productivity. It can be thus concluded that there is a potential for Korean firms to increase productivity by readjusting the density of production activity across regions.
