This study was conducted to evaluate the ability of anion generating air cleaner to remove gases, vapor and particles from closed room contaminated with environmental tobacco smoke (ETS). The measurements covered particle sizes of 13.8-542.5nm, particle concentration, surface area, volumes UVPM, FPM, solanesol, and the following gases and vapor; carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nicotine, and 3-ethenylpyridine. Tobacco smoke was generated and mixed in a closed room in which the airflow rates were in the range of 0.00-0.04 m/s. The anion generating air cleaner was startedl and the decay rates for the gases, vapor and particles were measured, When the use of anion generating air cleaner, solid components of ETS, such as respirable suspended particle (RSP), utraviolet particulate matter (UVPM, fluorescent particulate matter (FPM) and solanesol was sharply decreased, and vapor phase components of ETS, such as nicotines 3-ethenylpyidine were modelately decreased by time elapse. Even the use of anion generation air cleaner, the decreasing rate of carbon dioxide concentration was similar with control, and the decreasing rate of carbon monoxide was slower than that of control. Our results indicated that the use of anion generting air cleaner had an effect on reduction of solid and vapor components from ETs, but it had no effect on gaseous components of ETS.

cent was carried out to study on the effect of temperature and humidity to chemical tobacco leaves during the yellowing stage. The results were follows : In the condition of high humidity and low temperature, yellowing time was delayed ; leaf color appeared lack clearness. In the higher temperature and the lower humidity during the yellowing stage : total sugar, reducing sugar and malic acid content were increased. Decomposition of nitrogenous components elevated in $38^{\circ}C$, 85%RH. Changes of total nitrogen content correlated with total curing time. Adecrease of linolenic acid with a corresponding increase of chlorogenic acid proceeded in the condition of low temperature and high humidity. In a view of tobacco quality by chemical components, the low temperature and high humidity during the yellowing stage decreased quality of tobacco leaves. It is considered to control of the proper condition of temperature and humidity during the yellowing.
아황산가스가 견조 과정중 잎담배 내용성분에 미치는 영향

This experiment was carried out to study 00 the effect of S02 gas to chemical com_ position of tobacco leaves during flue -curing. The results were as follows : S02 gas io briquet was the major factor to damage with tobacco leaves. The damage ooly occured in a presence of moisture io tobacco leaves, it did oot occured after color fixing stage which is a li ttle leaf moisture. The daoger of damage to tobacco leaves lies in 10 ppm of S02 gas concentration. Follow with the S02 gas concentration increased, sugar and nitrogen ∞ntents became higher, po1yphenol contents were 105s, and the quality of tobacco leaves declin.

This study was conducted to evaluate the ability of room air cleaners to remove gases, vapor and particles from closed room contaminated with environmental tobacco smoke(ETS). The types of room air cleaners selected were paper filter, fiber filter, carbom filter, static precipitator and anion generater. The ETS measurements covered total suspended particle(TSP), ultraviolet particulate matter(UVPM), fluorescent particulate matter(FPM), solanesol, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nicotine, and 3-ethenylpyridine. Tobacco smoke was generated and mixed in a closed room in which the airflow rates were in the range of 0.00-0.03 m/s. As the room air cleaners were started, the decay rates of the ETS components were measured. After the use of room air cleaners, excluding paper filter cleaner, the solid components of ETS, such as TSP, UVPM, FPM and solanesol were removed over 90%, and the vapor phase components of ETS, such as nicotine, 3-ethenylpyridine(3-EP) were eliminated about 50% as time elapsed. But even after the use of room air cleaners, except the anion generating cleaner, the decreasing rate of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide concentration were not much different with the control. Our results indicate that there was a different removal efficiency with the types of filter materials in air cleaners, and also there was a dominant effect on reduce of solid and vapor components of ETS. But there was no significant effect on reduce of gaseous components of ETS. It is possible to increase the air quality in a room contaminated by ETS with the conditions that an air cleaner is properly chased, operated and maintained well.

This experiment was carries out to study on the effect of temperature raising rate to chemical composition of tobacco leaves during the midrib drying stage of flue-curing. The results were as follows : In the case of the temperature raising rate became more rapidly during midrib drying stage. It had a tendency to increase in oxailic acid, succinlc acid, ammonia, polyphenol; there was a large loss of total sugar, reducing sugar, malic acid, palmitic acid and linolenic acid; leaf color became more reddish; the leaf quality index value decreased, thereby the quality of external appearance deteriorated. It is desirable that the temperature raising rate had to be more slowly.

This study was conducted to investigate the delivery pattern of volatile organic compounds(VOCs) in mainstream smoke generated by the combustion of a different ventilated cigarette. To compare the delivery pattern and the concentration of VOCs in mainstream smoke, the six different ventilated cigarette was manufactured and analyzed VOCs using the GC/MS. As a result of this experiments, cambridge filter used to trap the particulate matter in mainstream smoke did not affect on the trapping of VOCs components, and two impinger method among the trapping methods was the best condition to trap VOCs from mainstream smoke. As the slope of the delivery of VOCs such as isoprene, acrylonitrile and toluene were higher than 1, but that of benzene was lower than other VOCs.

This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of circulating air volume to chemical composition of tobacco leaves during the bulk curing. The results were as follows : The decrease of circulating air volume prolonged curing time as the case of a 0.058m3/min. kg; but, no remarkable changes with a 0.11m3/min. kg and a 0.083m3/min. kg. When the circulating air volume was decreased, compared with 0.11m3/min. kg, sugar content was increased while total nitrogen and nicotine content showed a reduced values. In case of a 0.058m3/min. kg and a 0.083m3/min.kg, solanone and damascenone were high. Some of volatile neutral constituents and volatile organic acids were increased during curing process ; especially, their quantities were remarkably increased during the midrib drying stage. As circulating air volume decreased the equilibrium moisture content was increased, while leaf shatter index and filling capacity were decreased.

An automatic method for the determination of total amino acid in tobacco was studied. This method makes use of the reaction of 2, 4, 6-Trinitrobenzene sulfonate with amino acid. Results obtained with this simple and rapid method agreed with those obtained with the offical method.
