Isolation of Cryptococcus neoformans var. grubii (serotype A) from Pigeon Droppings in Seoul, Korea

Seventy-two pigeon dropping samples were collected from 26 different localities in Seoul and investigated for the occurrence of Cryptococcus neoformans. Seventeen samples from 8 different localities were found to be positive for C. neoformans. All isolates were obtained from withered pigeon droppings. Identification and serotyping of the isolates were determined by means of serological testing and DNA fingerprinting. All isolates belonged to C. neoformans var. grubbi (serotype A).
RAPD표지인자를 이용한 3종의 가리비에 대한 유전적 유연관계

PCR-RAPD 표지인자를 이용하여 비단가리비와 큰가리비 그리고 해만가리비의 유전적 유연관계를 조사하였다. 60개의 random primer중 6개의 primer를 선택하여 시료들의 RAPD 양상을 비교하였다. 모든 primer들은 서로 다른 속의 가리비 종류에 대하여 특이적 RAPD band 형태를 나타내었다. 비단가리비에서는 패각 크기와 색깔의 특성이 두 집단간의 현저한 차이를 나타내었다. 그러나 RAPD 양상은 두 지리적 집단간에 유전적 차이를 보이지 않았다. 다형성 RAPD 대립인자들이 각 가리비종의 동일 집단에서 관찰되었다. 그러므로 RAPD 표지인자는 가리비를 동정하고 가리비 집단 구조를 연구하는데 유용하다고 사료된다. The genetic relationship was examined with PCR-RAPD markers among three scallop species, Chlamys farreri farreri, Patinopecten yessoensis, and Agropecten irradians. Six primers were selected from 60 primers used to compare PCR-RAPD profiles among species. All primers showed distinct RAPD band patterns between the three species. In Chiamys farreri farreri, the morphological characteristics such as shell size and color were considerably different between the two geographical populations. RAPD profile, however, showed that no significant genetic differences were found between the two geographical populations. Polymorphic alleles were observed within a population of each species. Thus, PCR-RAPD markers are useful in identifying scallop species and in understanding scallop population genetic structure.

The standard formular for herbs has been attempted to set up by documentary testing original herbs which were recorded in authorized documents. Thus the pig's lard has been used from antique as cosmetic materials. We try to describe it's physiochemical, biological properties and usage in the domain of cosmetic. The origin of pig's lard is Sus scrofa L. var domestica Brisson. Sus scrofa L. var coreanus Heude and Sus scrofa L. var domestica Gray. The pig's lard is consisting of oleic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid linoleic acid and myristic acid which are used today also in the cosmetic and drug manufacturing. This pig's lard has been used ointment base.

Epidermophyton floccosum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes과 Trichophyton rubrum 등피부백선균에 대한 Melittin의 항진균 활성을 조사하였다. Melittin은 본 연구에서 실험한 진균들에 대하여 높은 항 진균 활성을 나타내었다. Melittin은 T. mentagrophytes와 T. rubrum에 대하여 최소억제농도를 5㎍/㎖ 나타내었고 E. flocussom에 대하여는 100㎍/㎖의 최소억제농도를 나타내었다. 진균 억제양상에서는 Melittin은 T. mentagrophytes와 T. rubrum에 대하여는 살 진균 효과(fungicidal activity)를 나타내었고 E. floccosum에 대하여서는 정 진균 효과(fungistatic activity)를 나타내었다.

Genetic diversity of Korean isolates of Pseudomonas tolaasii and WLRO (White line reacting organism) was assessed using BOX-, REP-, and ERIC-PCR analysis. P. tolaasii showed nearly identical band patterns among isolates, whereas considerable DNA polymorphism was found among isolates of WLRO. On the basis of dendogram, WLRO is characterized as a complex group with high degree of genetic differentiation. Genetic relatedness based on repetitive DNA regions was low between P. tolaasii and WLRO isolates.
