Sintering transforms powdered ore into lumped ore so that the latter can be used in a blast furnace. The powdered ore combined with coke and other materials is loaded into a container and moved along by a pallet while the ignited coke burns. The speed by which the pallet moves determines how much sintering takes place. Since the process is complicated and lacks an accurate mathematical model, human operators manually control the speed by monitoring various factors in the plant. In this paper, we propose a neural network-based pallet speed controller which copies human operator knowledge. Actual process data were collected from a sintering plant For eight months and preprocessed to remove noisy and inconsistent data. A multi layer perception was trained using a back-propagation learning algorithm. In on-line testing at the sinter plant, the proposed model reliably controlled pallet speed during normal operation without the help of human operators. Moreover, the quality and productivity was as goad as with human operators.

최근 경제지표들의 움직임을 살펴보며 국내 경기가 현재 저점을 통과 중이거나 조만간 저점에 도달할 것으로 예상된다. 그러나 국내외 여건을 종합해 볼 때 우리 경제는 저점 도달 후 빠르게 반등하기보다는 당분간 바닥을 횡보하는 모습을 보일 가능성이 크다. 주요국들의 경기가 개선되는 모습을 보이고 있으나 소비는 계속 감소하고 있는 등 우리 수출과 관련한 제반 여진들의 전망은 그리 밝지 않다. 국내적으로는 설비투자 감소세 지속, 고용사정 악화 소득감소에 따른 소비위축 등으로 내수 주도에 의한 본격적인 성장을 기대하기도 어렵다. 우리 경제구조도 높은 대외의 존도로 인해 글로벌 수요회복에 의한 수출증대라는 외부요인의 도움이 있기 전에는 본격적인 경기회복기로의 진입을 기대하기 어려울 것임을 시사해 주고 있다 이에 따라 경제주체들은 당분간 경기가 부진할 것이라는 가정하에 내실을 다치고 기초체력을 키우는 안정적인 전략을 채택하는 것이 바람직할 것으로 판단된다.
