The aim of the present study was to evaluate the use of an immunochromatographic test (ICT) strip using recombinant MPB70 (rMPB70) protein as a complementary tool for the diagnosis of naturally occurring tuberculosis in cattle. The study was performed on 249 cattle from populations known to be free from Mycobacterium bovis (M. bovis) and 119 cattle with M. bovis infection, confirmed postmortem. Compared to reference standards (culture isolation and/or visible lesion), the sensitivity of ICT was 94.12% (95% CI: 89.89∼98.35%) while the specificity was 96.80% (95% CI; 94.62∼96.82%). The findings indicate that the ICT strip is efficient for diagnosing bovine tuberculosis in cattle from Korea.
Vol.39 No.2
As competition between companies intensifies, the importance of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in marketing is growing. This is because consumers respond to the values pursued by the company and this leads to purchases. Furthermore, it is being used as a means to express the values of individual consumers according to the type of company they consume. In the past, the focus was on corporate social goodwill or a sense of responsibility for the environment and human rights, but recently, the focus has been focused on consumers and there is a lot of interest in how consumers can share values with companies. As such, various studies have studied corporate social responsibility (CSR), but did not show sufficient results on how CSR marketing based on social media is being conducted. Therefore, this study investigated how corporate social responsibility (CSR) factors affect the bond between companies and consumers through a survey. In addition, efforts were made to materialize corporate social responsibility (CSR) factors, and to analyze how corporate attitudes adjust when these influence bonds.

There have been a total tenth FMD outbreaks in Korea and for the first time, type O and A were de-tected simultaneously in 2017, which led to difficulties in FMD control. For the effective prevention of FMD, the importance of discrimination of serotypes became greater. Therefore, the most urgent re-quirement in case of FMD outbreak is differential diagnosis of serotypes. In this study, we developed a PNA probe-mediated multiplex real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR) assay using the peptide nucleic acid (PNA) probe, which is known to be stable to nucleotide mutation and that could specifically detect the all FMDV serotype A, FMDVA Yeoncheon strain which was oc-curred in Korea in 2017, and FMDV A viruses shown 96% similarity with FMDVA/Yeoncheon strain, at the same time. Therefore, It is believed that the newly introduced FMDVA will be effectively diag-nosed using the PNA probe multiplex RT-PCR developed in this study, and ultimately contribute to the prevention of FMD.

The objective of this study was to assess the possibility of detecting Foot-and-Mouth Disease Virus (FMDV) from the herd-based oral fluids specimens collected by the cotton ropes from pig farms that were found as FMDV nonstructural protein (NSP) antibodies positive. The cotton ropes were applied to detect FMDV in the selected pig farms which NSP antibodies were continuously detected in 2016, including the one pig farm which FMDV antigen were detected at the specimens from the pigsty environment. As the result, FMDV antigen were not detected in the oral fluid specimens collected by the cotton ropes. Theoretically, to detect FMDV antigen from the pigs with NSP antibodies has very low possibility because FMDV antigen disappeared at the time when NSP antibodies were produced by FMDV. Therefore, in order to detect FMDV antigen from the oral fluids using the cotton rope, it would be more effective to be applied to target the FMDV infected pigs rather than the NSP antibodies pos-itive pigs. The collected oral fluids using cotton rope could be useful test specimens to monitor high-density pig populations for FMDV infection. Then, oral fluids sampling using cotton rope will be used for the efficient FMDV surveillance to detect FMDV antigen.

In this study, we developed a sensitive and specific reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) assay for rapid visual detection of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) circulated in Korea. The RT-LAMP was completed in 40 min at 62°C and the results of the assay were directly detected by naked eye without any detection process. The assay specifically amplified all 7 serotypes of FMDV RNAs but not amplified other viral and cellular nucleic acids. The sensitivity of the RT-LAMP was 102, 103 and 103 TCID50/mL for serotype O, A and Asia 1 FMDV, respectively, which was comparable to conventional reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and relatively lower than that of real time quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR). Clinical evaluation of the RT-LAMP using different serotypes of Korean and foreign FMDV strains showed a 100% (35/35) agreement with the results of the RT-PCR and qRT-PCR. These results indicated that RT-LAMP assay developed in this study could be a valuable diagnostic method for FMDV monitoring and surveillance.
Control of type O foot-and-mouth disease by vaccination in Korea, 2014–2015
2018 Journal of Veterinary Science Vol.19 No.2
On December 3, 2014, a type O foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreak began in Korea. Although vaccinations were administered, FMDcases increased steadily for five months, and reached 185 cases by April 2015. Most of the affected animals were pigs, which are vulnerableto vaccination. The FMD virus belonged to the South-East Asia (SEA) topotype that had been observed three times in Korea between April2010 and July 2014. However, the FMD virus isolated in December 2014 had a unique feature; that is, partial deletion of the 5´ non-codingregion, a deletion not seen in previous SEA topotype isolates identified in Korea. We conclude that this outbreak included the introductionof a new FMD strain to Korea, and that Korea was now affected by genetically similar FMD virus strains that are related to those fromneighboring countries.
