Pyogenic granuloma is one of the common benign vascular tumors of infants and children and it can also occur in adults. There are 25 reports of patients with pyogenic granuloma in the Korean medical literature. In three reports, giant pyogenic granuloma developed over 2 cm in size (1.3 × 0.7 cm, 1.2 × 0.8 cm and 1.1 × 0.7 cm, respectively). There have been no reports in the Korean medical literature of pyogenic granuloma over 2 cm in size. Herein, we report on a giant pyogenic granuloma on the palm of a 72-year old female. The lesion was of an unusually large size of 2.8 × 2.5 × 1.3 cm and we excised it by performing electrosurgery.

Cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX) is a rare autosomal recessive lipid storage disease caused by sterol 27-hydroxylase (CYP27) deficiency. We report two CTX siblings that were presented with typical manifestations such as achilles tendon xanthomas, mental retardation, progressive gait ataxia, and upper motor signs. Their parents and other three sisters were healthy. Serum cholesterol level was within normal limits for both siblings. The older brother has been treated conservatively with muscle relaxant and dopamine agonist because the disease was so progressive, but the younger sister has been treated with 250 mg/day chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor (simvastatin 40 mg/day) to prevent the progressive neurologic dysfunction.

Patients with lymphomatoid papulosis have other lymphomas in 10∼20% of cases, most commonly mycosis fungoides, Hodgkin`s disease, and anaplastic large cell lymphoma. In a series involving at least 40 patients with lymphomatoid papulosis, the association of lymphomatoid papulosis with mycosis fungoides ranged from approximately 7% to 18%. It is most important to distinguish lymphomatoid papulosis from CD30-positive large cell transformation of mycosis fungoides. Both conditions can be distinguished on clinical grounds, and clinical course is often the only distinguishing feature. We report a case of lymphomatoid papulosis developing in an mycosis fungoides lesion in a patient who received 3 rounds of narrow band UVB phototherapy and topical corticosteroid application. Hand-washing has been recognized as a critical factor in controlling infection and cross-contamination. This study was performed to investigate hygienic behavior of male university students focusing on awareness of hand-washing, their hand washing practices, and the difference between their awareness and practices. Both a self-administered questionnaire survey and a separate direct observation in restrooms were carried out at a university campus over a four week period. In the survey, 93.6% of the responded students claimed to wash their hands after using toilet. However, just 16.9% of the observed students actually did so, according to a separate and unnoticed observational study. Among the observed students who washed their hands, 25.0% of them used soap, only 5.0% of them washed four parts of their hands, and 15.0% of them washed their hands for more than 10 seconds. Paper towel was the most common hand drying method in the direct observation and also in the survey. Significant differences between the questionnaire survey and the direct observation (p<0.0l) were found in hand-washing practices, duration of hand-washing, using soap, washing parts of the hand, and hand-drying method after using the toilet. This study indicates that there is a remarkable difference between the male university students' awareness of hand-washing and their hand-washing practices. This study reveals that there is the need for programs or campaigns to increase hand-washing practices of male university students.

Eosinophilic gastroenteritis is a rare condition of unknown cause characterized by peripheral eosino- philia, eosinophilic infiltration of the gastrointestinal tract, and gastrointestinal symptomatology. Eosinophi]ic gastroenteritis is generally classified according to the layer of gastrointestinal tract involved. Especially, serosal eosinophilic infiltration is the rare,;t form of presentation, and may result in the development of eosinophilic ascites. Herein we repcrt an unusual case of eosinophilic gastroenteritis presenting with peritoneal eosinophilic infiltration diagnosed by a peritoneal biopsy. A 16-year-old woman came to our hospital presenting with abdminal <listensiron and tenderness, vomiting, and diarrhea with marked peripheral eosinophilia. Stool .;pecimens were negative for ova parasites. Biopsy specimens of esophagus, stomach, duodenum, and colon showed nonspecific intlammation but that of the peritoneum showed specific intense e.inophilic infiltration with fibrous band and eosinophilic vasculitis. A diagnosis of serosal eosinophil c gastroenteritis based on c]inical, laboratory, eosinophilic pertoneal fluid and histopathologic data, (:specially the biopsy specimens of the peritoneum. She was treated with corticosteroid and respond d dramatically with a complete resolution of ascites and other G-I symptoms. (Korean J Gastroenterol 1997; 30:547-552)

N/A Osteopetrosis (also called Albers-Schoberg's disease, Marble bones and chalk bones) is a rare hone dysplasia in which, on the basis of a failure of osteoclastic and chondroclastic resorption, the bone become exceedingly dense. Two clinically distinct forms are now recognized and have different patterns of inheritance. The milder form is transmitted as an autosomal dominant trait and the more severe form is transmitted as an autosomal recessive trait. We have experienced a familial osteopertrosis, mother and three siblinges out of six, which was thought to be a autosomal dominant inheritance. We report a case of milder form of osteopetrosis with a review of literature.
